Trouble with level signage

Alright well I'm making a new sign for a map (I'll probably be using it from now on), one of the ones with the chamber number, hazards, etc. Well, I've hit a snag with it.

When I look for the texture in Hammer, I can see the texture in the texture selector, but when I apply it to a brush nothing appears, not even a checker-pattern. It's completely invisible. When I compile the map, I get an error stating that the material can't be found. How can this be true, I can see the texture in the texture chooser.

Anyway, when I run the map, the sign is there, but it's fully-checker-textured. Yet for some reason, the back-lighting from the texture is there. What's wrong with my texture?

EDIT: :sigh:

I forgot to change a .txt to a .vmt

Even people among the best do sometimes do mistakes like that.

Glad you found before everyone started to put extravagant theories about it that certainly would not have helped.
