Destroyed is the theme of chapter 1 of the single player campain
Reconstructing is the theme of chapter 2,3,4
Behind the Scenes (BTS) is the theme of chapter 5
Old-Aperture is the theme of chapter 6 and 7
Clean is the theme of chapter 8,9 and PeTI

You now asks: Why is he doeing this. Now, then can I create better maps and you to!

Correction:
Reconstruction and Clean are the theme of chapter 2,3,4
Wheatley is the theme of Chapter 8 and 9.
PeTI in my opinion is it's own theme, but I guess it is clean as well.

Wheatley style is one of it's own. Clean has no broken walls, no visible BTS areas, no bottomless pits. Wheatley's theme is my personal favorite though, and yes Cobra there was a thread just like this one before.

Why does everyone continuously forget about the theme of DLC 1? Peer Review FTW!

Technically there was no poll, but yes, the thread existed:

general-discussion/favorite-theme-t6539.html

Here was my post on the subject:

Contrary to popular opinion, I'm actually not a big fan of old aperture. It feels very makeshift and lacking in style. One may argue that a lack of style comes with the time setting, but I don't think that is the case. Bioshock, for example, is a game that executes a 40s/50s art direction with some serious class.

I'm not at all saying I hate old aperture, mind you, I'm simply suggesting that it isn't as mind blowing as so many people claim.

As for my favourite theme, I would have to say overgrown. The juxtaposition of straight, rectangular, artificial surfaces with the rough, random and beautiful organic influence of nature is (in my opinion) almost perfectly executed. It's the first theme the player encounters and thus it needs to have the veneer of Portal 1's chamber style while actually being quite different. It feels both familiar and and foreign at the same time.

It is truly an example of art direction done right; it still surprises me that I am one of the few people who feels this way.

I see what you mean, but in terms of story development the underground was really well executed in my opinion, especially in Chapter 6. The first large vista when looking up after the fall was really awesome in my opinion. Plus, I really like that Valve did its homework in terms of logo design and typography.

Still, every style has its pros and cons and Wheatley and overgrown are also stunning if executed properly. Though the latter mostly has to do with it setting the scene and using the announcer for a while.

It's difficult to really decide amongst all themes. I loved the first time I completed the game I realized about all the visual styles I got through during the campaign, and how amazingly detailed and well fitted was each one into each part of the story.

However, I remember the feeling that the overgrown-destroyed promotional wallpapers made me feel:

What I felt was that the time had passed over all the old chambers which we had suffered all that amazing testing time in during Portal and somehow we would return to that place again to continue the story in Portal2... That really made me feel more excited than the new testing elements theirselves. I was more interested in the story and what the hell happened so that we need to go back there again... why? and how? ...and how would that be possible that GLaDOS would be reactivated again after we killed(?) it...

I'll definitely make some chambers in a personal destroyed style whenever in the future...

It's a promotional wallpaper I found out there long time ago... Indeed I remember I used it as desktop background for a while... Hmmm... wait!

Here you are...

Oh, and if you're referring to what is that chamber in the picture?, I think it's Portal's chamber 13.

Cool, thanks. I wondered if I had somehow completely missed a test in Portal 2.
