Testing project?... c'mon man. I thought it would have been an epic name.
But you're probably like: :dealwithit:

Taste of Blood: why would you taste blood? A joke about ear-tubes would be more fitting.

Please note that any noticeable taste of blood is not part of any test protocol, but is an unintended side effect of the Aperture Science Emancipation Grill.

That's why Taste of Blood is a name for fizzlers.

Sorry. I just think the mspaint part was a bit below the standard, that's all. Still, feel free to use it if you like.

If you have alot of story in your mod/map then try to make the name something that has to do with the map. In my case im working on an map I call: Abandoned, beacuse you wake up confusded and alone.

Another tips is something that catches the reader, a name like: FREAKINGHELLHOUNDLOCHNESSMONSTERMAPS*** would not be a good name...
Something more like:
The Flood (if you use much water/slime)
Overgrowth (if you have alot of plants, but this name is already taken into an map)
things like that, good luck.

What's funny is sometimes I work my map around a map name, rather then the other way around (which, by far, is how I see people on here do it).

Same here, I thought of the name "Ode to Turrets" before ever building anything, then I bent my design to fit within that theme...

These are ones I can remember off the top of my head, meaning they are effective! As for Portal Stories, I had to look at lpFreaky's signature in order to remember the name of it. It is a little to too broad to remember honestly.

For my test chambers, I just take a word someone might use to vaguely describe the test chamber then look in a thesaurus for something that sounds cool. Like I have a map called Tertiary, because the 3rd place you need to go is the exit.
Or convert it to Latin. Latin is always cool.

This has probably been mentioned multiple times before, but I can also state that names should generally be related to the map the name is for. An example would be my co-op map "Three Companions". Since it revolves around two players taking a companion cube between testchambers to solve puzzles, then the name becomes apt because, through personification of the cube, you can say that there are indeed three companions in the map.

So, naturally, for your own maps, you should think about what you've included in the map and any themes it has in order to think of a name that seems appropiate to what the map has in it or is about. They could be quotes from the game that might be fitting for map - there are all sorts of possibilities to consider when making a map. In the end though, the decision is yours.

I'm thinking of a map named "Hairdryer" which is based on light bridges that, according to GLaDOS, "set your hair on fire".

I like to include subtle puns in my map names. For example, "Mho' Power" is a map where the main mechanic is conducting indicator strip signals with cubes. "Mho' Power" sounds like "more power" when said aloud, which is appropriate, but it is also a reference to the mho, a unit of conductivity. Unfortunately people who haven't taken any manner of electronics class won't get it but for those who do it's a nice touch.
With sequels make sure to make the puns lamer
Yes I'm aware that the mho is being renamed to the siemens but "Siemens Power" is NOT a good name.
