or: I'm not Good at Naming Maps, a Map by TicTac A short-medium length test chamber, set after the events of Portal2. The test includes faith plates, lasers, and a light bridge. Here's a couple screenshots (sorry for the large file size) README: Extract and place the .vpk in your portal 2/portal2/addons/ folder. You may have to create the "addons" folder. Run Portal2 and type "map sp_tictac_01" in your console. http://u.cubeupload.com/dvlstx/2011082600001.jpg http://u.cubeupload.com/dvlstx/2011082600002.jpg UPDATED: Added playerclips, fixed exit areaportal.

Fun map, it really got me thinking, although I screwed up when I put the normal cube on the button. You may also have an area portal leak at the exit, that or my save files got corrupted because when I loaded after I died, a lot of Portalgun particles where screwed up, but nothing on your part.
Anyway, keep up the good work, I hope to see more.
I'll double check the map, I had another complaint about the exit areaportal. Thanks for letting me know
[EDIT]
Just downloaded it, didn't see anything wrong with the areaportal. It could've just glitched, but I'll take another look if more people have a problem.
I liked the map, nice effects, mapping and very challenging, took short while to figure out the solution! Keep up your good going!
I had problem with the exit areaportal too. By the way, it was fun to play this map, nice puzzle, although I think you have to walk too much on the bridge (or maybe I didn't find the intended solution..
).
Solid work here, I must say I'm not a big fan of mixing themes but this is how it should be done: for a short map with a relatively easy setup (intro to faithplates), it plays pretty close to the source. Imho if you managed to add a big point of interest in the expanse, like the ruins emerging in Old Aperture, it would rank from good to great
Bug: you can get into the "authorized personnel only" area and get some noclips inside.
I liked your puzzle.
Excellent (5).

Were you playing this with a controller? O_o

Psst, ask infernet89 to record it using his mad razer hydra skillz. I saw him throw a cube a hundred feet away with a perfect snipe.

I must've forgotten to put playerclips up... Well, I'll look into the exit areaportal issue and fix this. I'll try and get an update out later today
[EDIT]
I'm quite surprised how many different ways people are activating that laser-power cube dispenser.
That's happened to me a few times. Typing "reload" in console usually gets it running.
I'm not sure why this happens, as it seems to be random.
A fairly decent puzzle in an attractive setting. I enjoyed playing it.
As others have noted, you can get stuck if you put the normal cube on the button. I was surprised that hitting the laser target again didn't fizzle it and drop a new cube.
I also saw weirdness at the exit, like looking through an infinite regression of portals slowly filling with light. Once inside, it cleared up.
Summary: Looks good, puzzle difficulty medium, player skill medium, fun to play. A solid 4/5 from me.

You're a very astute watcher. Yes, it's my note's touchpad.

Did I activate the laser-power cube dispenser the intended way?
Nice map, I didn't find that normal cube dropper at first.
Also, there might be a glitch of the lower floor laser cube dropper, sometimes the cube won't fall.
And here is my gameplay

@Portal2Two, I haven't seen anyone do it the way I intended, but the most common method is to open the trapdoor with one laser cube, then use the other to shine it thru a portal on the white wall directly opposite the laser
I'm actually pretty happy that people are coming up with different ways to do it.
If people are getting the exit glitch with the updated map, then I haven't the slightest idea how to fix it. The logic system in place should be pretty foolproof
Great puzzle, very clever.
I needed my daughter's help to figure out how to open the exit door. (She's watching over my shoulder as I type this.) I also thought I needed to put the normal cube on the button, but she figured out that was a mistake.
To get the normal cube, I used a cube to divert the top laser beam into a wall with a portal on it, jumped down, put the other portal on the wall opposite the dispenser and kept adjusting it until the cube fell out.
Very nice map. Enjoyed the big room and puzzle, just wish there was something else going on inside the expanse - even just visual. Like everyone else I put the cube on the button - mistake and had to retrieve. No problem on exit.
Thanks for creating - look forward to more.
Definitly a 5. I love how you allow the panels to fall during gameplay...cool effects.
You really thought this through, great puzzle, great visuals, excelent animation-smooth. I noticed the problem with the cube cause I had to go swimming to start over. My nephew played the map as well and I noticed he used the portals more efficently then me and didn't have to walk as much.
I'll be looking forward to more of your maps.
Thanks!
I'm playing custom maps and record my first time of playing them. So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:

Your instructions for loading a vpk file don't work for me. The console tells me there is no such file. I haven't been able to run ANY vpk files. Every place I look for instructions says something different. I have the folder "...portal 2/portal 2/addons" I put the vpk file in there. I started the game. I pulled up the console with the main menu on the screen - nope! I pulled the console up after starting a new game - nope!
I followed STEAM'S own frigging directions here https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Releasing_A_Portal_2_Map - nope!
Not everyone is a geek. I (and others, I've noticed) need DETAILED, BABY-STEP BY BABY-STEP instructions how to run these frigging things. I need to know exactly what screen needs to be up at every step. I need to know every goddam keystroke. NOTHING is too small to be included.
It's inconvenient that this map has a vpk, since dlc broke this method of releasing maps as vpks.
In order to still be able to play this map and make it easy to delete the files here's my step-by-step guide.
1. Go to http://nemesis.thewavelength.net/index.php?p=26 and download GCFscape.
2. Install GCFscape
3. Download this map
4. Go to steamapps/common/portal 2/ and create a portal2_dlc3 folder here.
5. open the vpk with GCFscape
6. Select everything on the right side, and right click extract, extract to your new portal2_dlc3 folder.
7. browse to the portal2_dlc3/maps folder remember the name of the bsp
8. Launch Portal 2
9. type in map <<mapname>>

Update:
Hopefully this doesn't bump the thread, not trying to necro anything...
I recently took a bit of a trip down memory lane, and checked out the old mapping forums I used to frequent. Somehow I only just noticed that Valve broke portal2/addons support, despite that happening only a month after I launched this map. I don't remember exactly what happened to make me forget about this project, but the timing lines up with me starting college so I have to assume it was that. At any rate, my apologies if you tried to load this up and were frustrated.
It looks like there's a workaround posted at the end of the thread (page-2), and the Portal2 wiki has been updated as well with vague instructions on how to get .vpk files working.
Happy puzzling,
DvlStx / TicTac
