Description
I have challenged myself to make decent test chamber in a week to help get my mind off of other things like TAKS testing and another Portal project I'm helping with. This chamber is fairly simple but even still I believe it came out alright. This test chamber includes: An Excursion Funnel Fizzlers lpfreaky90's Death Fizzlers A Hard Light Bridge acting as a shield wall and of course, Buttons and Switches. Special thanks to lpfreaky90 for the use of the Death Fizzler texture. I don't have time to upload a thumbnail so please look at the screenshots Screenshots: http://steamcommunity.com/id/RubyCarbun ... 5294302055 http://steamcommunity.com/id/RubyCarbun ... 294304574/? http://steamcommunity.com/id/RubyCarbun ... 294306383/? v2: made one cube completion impossible (hopefully)

It is rather simple but not too easy either. Also, the clean style looks pretty good. Thanks for sharing!
I'm always trying to find errors, bugs and things that annoys me in other peoples maps, but I loved this one!
It isn't that challenging, but that's the beauty of it! I always understood what I was supposed to do next and never got stuck with a puzzle. It reminded me a lot of the actual maps in Portal 2's single player.
You might wanna bring some more attention to the button in the sealing though...
Great map, not that hard to solve, but that's the kind of maps I like ^^
Pretty impressive for a week's work ^^
The puzzles are pretty straightforward, but the map looks good and plays well, thanks!
Was gonna do a speedrun, but quickly got bored of that.. here's my solution isntead.

Great for a weeks work.I went back and managed to beat it with 1 cube.Tried to do it again several times but its real hard to push yourself out of the portal and land on the ledge.
Great map, and again, awesome puzzle! It's exactly that what I like, you are really my favourite mapper about the puzzles, I love your puzzles!
. 5/5.
By the way, are going to make some update to Blue Walls where would be for example fix for that Portal gun bug? Blue Walls is still the best map I've ever played, and I'd love to play again that map! But with "singleportal gun", with that "bothportal gun" it doesn't have sense.

I completed it with just one cube, but in slighty different way, cause I have forgotten, that there is another one
Anyway,it would by pretty nice piece of puzzle, if you left the player with just one cube

Thanks for the review and yeah I was thinking about how to do that, you have any suggestions?

Thanks for the review and for the video. It's always nice to see people play through the map and find new and inventive ways to solve it. For example I intended it so that the player would use the Excursion Funnel hit the switch, I knew players might find alternative ways for using momentum though. I always love to see people think differently than I do.

Thank you for that first bit, it means a lot more than you know. That top bit really made my day. About Blue Walls though I've been working on it for awhile now and I believe I should be getting closer to finishing it soon though.

Can one of you (or someone else) post a vid on how that was done? because I am honestly confused as to how you did it.
Overall thanks for the constructive criticism you all I really appreciated it.
I solved the map using both cubes. I read the posts and went back and tried using 1 cube.
Once I was on the exit side I shot a portal on the ceiling as close as I could to the area where the cube is to turn off the LP's fizzler and went through my portal and landed on the upper area with the cube. Nice job! Thanks for creating.

Oh I see, I'll see what I can do about that, thanks for describing it.

Thats how I did it also.Trying to do it over for a vid cost me 120 gigs of hard drive space and still hadnt done it.Stop fraps and bang I do it.Its a very very narrow space of room to put the portal so I wouldnt change it.Gives us people something to do after we played it the right way :p

lol yeah, fair enough. I guess I'll just leave it in then.
Quite polished for a one week map. Well done. I just don't understand why there are two cubes. The 1 cube solution is too easy to warrant there being a second cube imo.
I feel like it should be removed or it should be harder, less obvious or impossible to solve without the 2nd cube.
But like I said, well done on the map!

Firstly I was trying the same, but after failing few times i came up with easier solution, I shot a portal next to this area and then simply jumped there. It's 180 degree jump, but it is not really hard

See it's that solution I was afraid of, so I may end up fixing it after allbecause the player could alsoUse the ceiling to do it if they have it in the right place. So I may end up fixing it now since it doesn't seem as hard to do as I first thought.
Really enjoyed it. I love playing these type of maps
Thanks for the upload 5/5 from me
Let there be more weeks spent like this!
Great map, no complaints really. I'll upload my blindrun later today

This is a very nice, medium difficulty puzzle. One thing I was able to exploit:
Exploit?
http://steamcommunity.com/id/wildgoosespeeder/screenshot/559814205104772684
Also I don't even need to use the Excursion Funnel to fling myself thanks to the ceiling being able to place portals on! Also the walls offer enough height to perform the fling as well.
Also in that room after the first cube dropper, are you supposed to perform a clever fling maneuver near the ledge containing the next cube?

Lol, no that's not an exploit at all, in this map I wanted to leave as many options as possible open to the player without the ability to break the test chamber. So you can fling, funnel and whatever else you need to finish the puzzles as long as it doesn't break the chamber at all.
Oh and Yes you are supposed to side fling up to that cube. Why do you ask? Did you find another way to do it?

It just doesn't feel right if I can do that!
Unless placing a portal on the floor near that ledge and the other on the highest point on a wall in that room to gain the height needed to perform the fling is wrong, yes.
As usual, splendid map!! Good to see a clean theme map made by you! Thanks for creating. I liked the sense of liberty to play around in such an open area. Not too difficult but very funny.
I've recorded my run. I'll post it later.
It's great that you made it in 1 week, I really hope to have one map per week from you! One little thing: you should use a thicker column to hide the fizzler props when you use two fizzlers in 90? like in your map because when you set animation > close you can see the back of the fizzler prop through the brushed column. It's in my video, check it

Thanks for the kind words. I look forward to seeing the video. Also I know about that little bit of detail, however those models were added in during the last 30 mins before the deadline and everything I did to try and correct it just seemed to look out of proportion with the rest of the chamber. Also about the one per week I'd honestly love to do it. However I've run out of ideas almost completely run out of ideas. I try and think of more and more but nothing really good ever seems to come to mind anymore. However I hope to make another few one week chambers and who knows maybe one day one of them will finally be a coop map.
Also to the other person (sorry I'm on a laptop right now and can't open up new tabs :/) I could try to make the acid pit a bit longer if you'd like, I'll admit it does seem a bit odd however that's pretty much the main reason I added a Death Fizzler there to prevent glitches from before the player gets to the area up behind it. I'd rather not edit this chamber too much though (other than that one cube thing people have found) because it was made entirely in one week so I'd like not to spend too much more time on this one.
Thanks for the upload! I hope to see more videos from future maps of mine from you.
I recorded my blind playthrough for you. I didn't copy the materials folder, so the fizzler didn't look right. I added a still shot at the beginning of the video so that casual viewers wouldn't think it was your fault. Nonetheless, you really should have compiled that file into the .bsp. It's much easier to intall and play the map that way.

J0uTJWQ-u-YI enjoyed playing this. The puzzles were easy, but not trivial. I especially liked the way you used the layout of the rooms to guide the player, instead of needing lots of signs. This is a great little map, 4/5 from me.
EDIT: After reading some posts here, I went back and solved it with one cube. I used the wall climbing trick I saw marKiu (I think) use in Chander's Test 8, so it was a little ninja (maybe just Karate Kid?) It took me longer to learn how to climb the wall than playing the entire map before.
Thanks for the video Kenn, sorry about not pack ratting the files into the bsp, I've never been successful with that even when reading tutorials. I probably should begin to start working on making that become more successful for future projects though. Thanks for the video though, I rally do enjoy watching people play through my maps and I'm surprised to see so many people from the community uploading videos for it.
The one cube thing should be fixed around Sunday or Monday. I forgot to upload the fixed version of the map after I uploaded the fixed version of "Blue Walls" before I left the house for the weekend on Thursday, so that should be up soon.

That's what I did, and it was the first time I ever used PakRat. I've always put things into .vpks before, but as I get ready to release my first map, I realize that format will not work for many people. Here's how I did it.
- Extract the files to a temporary working directory
- Start PakRat
- Open maps/sp_arbc_fizzlefunnel.bsp
- Add materials/Lp/death_field_fizzle.vmt
- Save the file
- Exit PakRat
- Copy updated .bsp to my maps folder
Wow those 7 steps make it seem so simple. I'll follow those for the next map I make. I don't know why I was having problems with it so much. Thanks for all that though.
This was a fun map to play. I'm not familiar enough with the mechanics of mapping to say, but I'm wondering if something was missing. The console complained about the following while loading the map:
Unable to load sprite material materials/sprites/gunsmoke.vmt!
Unable to load sprite material materials/sprites/bubble.vmt!
PrecacheScriptSound 'music.sp_arbc_fizzlefunnel_lbout' failed, no such sound script entry
PrecacheScriptSound 'music.sp_arbc_fizzlefunnel_tbout' failed, no such sound script entry
The map seemed to play OK despite those error messages.
5/5 from me.
I updated the map to where solving it with one cube is hopefully impossible from here on out. I also added a thumbnail for the map. No big changes just a few updated brush textures.

I honestly have no idea what any of that means, I normally don't use sprites unless there was something in the observation room or elevator instances that I don't know about.

It seems that you haven't actually uploaded version 2 yet. It only shows the original upload.

@RubyCarbuncle: You must change the file name when uploading a new version. For example OneWeekCreationv2.rar.

I can still solve it with one cube by climbing the wall next to the superbutton platform. Although I can't do it, I'd be willing to bet one of the strafe-jumping afficionados could make it there from the ceiling above it.
EDIT: I agree with taco, it's hardly worth fixing. Let the ninjas have their fun. I would fix it by putting the superbutton deeper under the fizzler, and reactivating the fizzler when the button is activated.
Smartass edit: I just realized what the problem is. The map should have been called "One Weak Creation"! Just kidding, the pun was too easy to resist. I haven't said it before, so I'll say it now, "Great work for one week!"
I just beat it with one cube too. Simply place a portal on the ceiling above the window and you can jump from the frame to the platform that the button is on.
NOTE: At this point you could either deny 1 cube completely or just leave it as a solution since most people probably wouldn't bother with these tactics (and they are fun for the people that would want to).
And I don't think this is new to v2 but you can trap yourself behind the red-field by moving the cube off the button with the tractor beam and placing both portals behind the red-field or having one of the portals in a bad location on the other side (above goo). This probably wouldn't happen to anyone that isn't trying to make it happen (raises hand) but it could.
Also, is there a reason that the angled platform isn't held by an arm? It's the only part of your map that doesn't look finished.

Thanks for your input, at this point I'm just going to leave the map as is, I hadn't noticed you could trap yourself but as you you said it probably won't happen unless your trying to make it happen, and the angled platform is an instance so whatever valve didn't put in there to make it seem realistic is what I got.
Hello!
This was a nicely done map with an interesting but not too hard riddle.
The textures and the lighning was great.
Good, 4 / 5.
Really enjoyed this. While not difficult, the solution isnt instantly apparent. It's what classic portal maps are made of.
Curious about the Portal 1 doors though. Definitely looking forward to more from you.
Visuals were stunning, puzzles were non-trivial but not too hard at all, and all in all it's a pretty fun map. If, like me, you missed the ceiling button and wondered how to get that first cube then you get to play through the first room again.
The Portal 1 door looked a little out of place (although I suppose we could have confused a Portal 2 door for the exit), but it was nice addition nonetheless. Great map, thanks for making it!
Great little map you made there. Short and simple - but sweet.

Enjoyed the map...makes you think just enough without totally frustrating you.
One problem...on my map, there was a large totally white Wall where the final exit door should be. When I portaled over to that wall, I just turned slightly to the right and fell into the final room with the last button and exit door. I had no idea where I was going till I landed. I saw a run through that sicklebrick provided...it didn't have the blank wall like mine does.
Was this a download problem, hardware problem or something else.

You didn't put the materials folder into the Steamapps/common/Portal 2/portal2 directory. I'll upload the map with the materials pakratted into the map itself.
