Changes in 1.3 -Fixed glitch -The glass is now replaced with a fizzler Testing out Portal 2 mapping. Also first time using instances, thanks for msleeper for example files. Short map, but I am going to make more of these. Screenshot: http://cloud.steampowered.com/ugc/55978 ... 87D27E358/ Mirror: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3300848/portal/ ... mber01.zip

Looks like an old school P1 mod, without looks and without puzzles... but lotsa hard jumps. For purists.
This one is quite hard but rly nice! I kind of struggled to get on the platform with the button but this is great! keep up the good work!

same here, nice work!
I liked it. Pretty hard jump, even with crouching. Also i spent alot of time trying to get the cube across to the otherside by throwing it over the water or over the wall with the frizzler, but then i saw the LIGHT the red light to be specific LOL
The cube wasnt being destroyed when it went in water, i dunno if thats something u might want to fix, but the button does solve the problem either way.
Good one, very hard I had to quick save/load a couple of dozen times to get the jumps, i don't understand what I did when i finally made it, I don't really understand how crouch jumping works or anything like that
Thanks for comments!
Changes in 1.1
-Ceiling is now higher in jump pit
-Tried to add hints for "right" solution
-Alternative solution is now easier to do
So I spent a solid 20-30 minutes repeatedly trying and failing to get to the button. After accidentally discovering the solution it still took me several tries to execute. The hints added in are quite necessary, so kudos on that. I had a criticism about the difficulty of execution for the jump to the button but then I realized that my own stupidity was to blame. What I would say though is that the portal-surface way up in the air facing down is placed directly over water, which seems unnecessary to me. I assume it's there in case you get stuck in the jump pit, but why it drops you over the water instead of over a non-portal surface (to prevent gaining momentum that way) is puzzling.
Get more speed by jumping over the window, portals placed on markers on the floor. Get starting speed from the catapult.
It is there to get out of the pit. It is possible to land on the floor. I could edit that part though.
Thanks for testing!
Seems even harder now... can't really remember exactly what I did in the first version, but this time I ended up using reportal glitch to get higher and higher, that's not how I solved it the first time around lol
edit: ok now i found another way by shooting past the turrets and landing in portal in the floor again but it's really tricky especially since i have to give it like 10 tries before i can hit the wall up there (can barely see it) and then only have 1 shot to get the rest right
I don't mind difficult though, but it would be more player friendly if you don't land in water when you come backwards out of the extended panel on the wall (faith plate target). Because medicore players like me have to try it 2-3 times just to be able to rotate the right way while shooting out of the next portal, etc. So it ends up with a lot of quick save\loading, would be nice to at least avoid completely unecessary dying
I don't know what reportal glitch is but it might be the correct way to do it. I am going to make a video soon.
Changes in 1.2
-Box will fizzle when dropped into goo
-Bigger "safe zone" around catapult.
-Minor tweaks
That is probably going to be the last version, I want to start making a new map already
Youtube video showing the way I meant this map to be beaten: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1DED1fMwnrI
The reportal glitch is a result of Valve fixing the glitch from Portal 1 where you could place one end of the portal while standing in the portal. Now, if you try and do that, it gives you a little push out one side of the portal, which if timed properly, can be used to give you a little momentum boost as you travel through the portal. I don't think this is what you had in mind as a solution.
I had tons of problems with this one... then finally ended up solving it in a way I'm sure was not intended.
I think I was supposed to fling myself from the wall past the turrets to the island, but I could never gain the moment necessary to do that, I even used the portal propulsion trick to gain as much as possible... In the end I ended up placing a portal on that section above the faith plate then one on the wall and jumping on the wall next to the faith plate, walking to the end of that and then jumping over the goo to the platform.
Maybe you should add one of those launching objects and the landing helper to the wall with a min/max momentum so it launches you out onto the island correctly every time, or if you have to have portal placement specifically in one spot make the wall only have a portable spot there or give it an obvious portal marker.
"Portal propulsion trick" do you mean gaining speed by flying over the window into the pit couple times? Could you check my video on 1st page.
I don't know if I am going to edit this map anymore, people seem to have too much problem with the main jump puzzle. I don't blame you, it is just hard to make it clear what you are suppose to do
E: I am going to make LAST version now...
Changes in 1.3
-Fixed glitch
-The glass is now replaced with a fizzler
Last version of this map, I'll start designing a new map.
I did it on an other, in my opinion much simpler solution. In stead of flinging yourself over the fizzler, into the pit 3 times in a row. I made a portal on the highest sealing, made a portal on a wall, jumped all the way down and put a portal on the end of the hallway in mid air. Then I used the Faith plate so fly past the turrets and jumped done in to the pit.
Really good map! Even short, it was hard to figure out in the very beginning, at least for me... Thanks for the number plates, that is what makes you know where to begin searching for. I completed it past weekend. I didn't have to before... Really nice! Thanks.
Good work, man. Keep on
I started playing custom maps and record me playing them. It's neither a perfect run nor do I have to have solved the map in the way it's meant to solve it. I play the maps "blind", that means I've never been in them before and play them for the very first time. I also give a little feedback for the map in the video description.
Maybe you are interested in the fact, that I played your map: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FrNRXVcy3ms
Based on his comments, it sounds like I found the same solution that SpykerP did. A nice looking, fairly simple puzzle with just a touch of difficulty in the execution. Too short to deserve a 4 (two more rooms of equal quality would get you there, four more would make me say 5), so just a 3/5 from me.
Looking at this map it's shocking to see it centers around just one jump. Figure that part out and the test is over.
