My second community release ! 19XX aperture is my favorite theme visually, but mapping it poses a real challenge. The gameplay is very Portal 1 esque, with no real new Portal 2 elements. Anyways, I hope you enjoy this map! Awesome map dude. Puzzles could be harder, but still good
ending nearly scared the shit out of me. Not expected

I read this post before finishing it and it still caught me off guard. Very unique.
The puzzle was really good, made me think quite good
The ending was the best part though, even though i saw the hints, it got me off guard and i was like "Wait a minute!" and then the scary face appeared and i got a tear in my eye. Awesome twist!
You know what makes it even scarier? If you press the button and then walk backwards until you hit "a wall" and can't go further, you turn around and...well, you know the rest
no crosshairs? o.O definitely needs fixing, especially considering the quick aim required at the race to the laser portals in the second half.
the small platform in the big, empty watery room that you use to fling yourself onto the cube part...needs some way to get back up without dying. with all the grills around it's easy to find yourself down there with only one portal.
took me a while to find the top of the platform leading to the second half. by the time i'd found it, i had already figured out i'd needmomentum to get at whatever part was next, using the orange goo. i feel there could use another subtle clue on where to use it, even if you just lowered the pillar a little bit. the top of it is so almost eye-level that it's hard to spot. and yes, hard to get a portal onto with no crosshairs.
the only glitch i encountered;with the cube in place, i used the orange goo to run through a portal in the wall, but not to the right spot. when i returned to the room, the cube was still in place and the sliding door across the ramp-gap was open, but the ramp had fallen down, covering the orange-goo runway. picking up and replacing the cube fixed it. edit: i realized what makes the ramp drop; crossing the grid into the entry room. that probably shouldn't happen since the cube is still in place.
i like race-y bits, so i like this map. i liked the timers on the emancipation grills. and the more of this "style" map that i play (meaning rusty, industrial, in a sphere), the more i like them. this one is straightforward without being too easy. just a little polish on this one and you're good to go.
and the ending: wow. i didn't even touch the elevator before turning around to check the office room first. now i have to go see if there's anything in the elevator. edit: now that i have, i've got one little cinematic suggestion; i think it would add a lot to the subsequent ending if you could actually get into the elevator, only to have it break dramatically while you're in it.
anyway, yeah the ending was neato.
i see comments below about the crosshairs, now at least i know how to turn them on so thanks. this is surely the first time they've come up missing, so i assumed it was the map.
d3, my game randomly went no crosshairs on me too, not sure why, I had to enter the console and type "crosshairs 1" to get them back. I don't know if some maps do it, or if it was a portal update or what that caused it. But I had crosshairs for this map no problem, I lost mine on an earlier map.
also, ending made me jump almost as much as The Unknown's ending did...

no crosshairs? o.O
Its a bug on your client. Happens once in a while. Just type crosshair 1 into console.
one more nitpicky bug about the ending
if you press the button from behind, at about this position, you can see future chell
appear right in front of you, but nothing else happens until you take a couple of steps forward.
in this case, maybe the fade to red should start immediately.
Good work, nice puzzles, twist ending.
Although all these spoilers about the ending kinda made it less scary.

That's why they were spoilers and not suppose to be read if you don't want to be spoiled...
Nice!
I didn't even see that ending til I read the spoilers here! I just assumed that the final elevator was the end and that we couldn't get in it or something (stupid, I know...) but I did manage to fling myself onto the higher platform on the final elevator... lol
Smooth and well assembled, especially the brilliant ending. Also I'm a sucker for Old Aperture. The first buttons could use some dotted line though.
Thanks for your feedback everyone! I love how quickly this community gives constructive criticism and just comments in general
I was a bit anxious about how the ending would go over with everyone, but it seems to have been better than just a regular elevator ride
I'm glad you all enjoyed it!
This is a map I thoroughly enjoyed and seemed pretty polished by the time I got to it.
I did miss the second button to remove one of the fields. Once I realized that I had no problems doing the rest of the map. The ending was epic.
I look forward to seeing more maps from you.
i see you've updated to 1.2, but i'm still downloading the old file (no new indicators/pillar looks the same).
i think TWP is still serving up the old version, i saw this same thing happen with another author and map, he said what finally worked was renaming the .zip file before uploading. you can see where the same thing has happened twice to this author

Thanks for pointing that out, should be fixed now
I liked this map though it didn't feel as polished as a few I've played.
My thought process at the ending:
"Hey, what the hell! Was that another person or a mirror...wait it's neither one..."
Then:
"Awww, that's going to make it so this map wouldn't really fit into a map pack with other 1950's themed maps" (an idea I had in my head from the map I played before this one)
And finally:
"Wait a sec, that was my future self just like the poster on the wall warned me could happen. That was pretty cool! What was the name of this map again? Don't Make Lemonade...LOL!"
A few bits had me stumped for a while working out what the buttons did in the first room, but still this is a very nice map.
I made a quick video preview for those who would like to take a look without seeing solutions...

Very good map taboo54!
So nice puzzles. A bit easy though, but clever.
The best, the end: man, you REALLY SCARED ME!... I just got paralized, because, just by instinct, I didn't followed the path that led me to the lifter... and saw the stairs down path... and after entered the room and press the red button... F***!! THERE WAS JUST ME (CHELL)! STARING AT ME AND GIVING ME THE CREEPS! AND THAT SOUND... AND THE RED BLINDING OUT ALL THERE! SIMPLY AWESOME
Thanks... keep up!
A screamer in a Portal 2 map? Wow. A clear reason you should lock away your Hammer so the kids can't hurt each other.
And here I was, minding my own business as usual playing portal 2 maps all by myself when all of a sudden:I TURN AROUND AND SEE ANOTHER HUMAN BEING, HOWEVER NOT ONLY THAT, IT'S ME. SCARED. TO. DEATH.
I attached a screen cap you should look at. Also, I was having issues with the jump to get the box. not too sure what was going on there, but it would not let me shoot a portal through the hole above the Grid.
Great map, Ending was great, Made better the second play-through, noticing the props.

||Did you even play it? It wasn't a screamer at all. The goal was to have an element (posters of seeing your future self) not seem important, but it actually is and catching people off guard. People have an expectation that , when they see a big red button with "Elevator Control' all it will do is Control the elevator, especially when combined with familiar sounds.
My goal wasn't "LOLOL I SCAER U", I wouldn't have put so much effort into the puzzles themselves if that were the case. I simply wanted to leave a lasting impression, which, going by people's comments, I have done.||
I understand and respect if you didn't like it, but resorting to calling people names is a bit rediculous
Puzzles were generally good. A couple quick comments:
The pillar with the portalable surface on top that you use to get up to the second level of test chambers doesn't look quite right. Like, the architecture seems a bit unnatural. I think if you used an empty metal frame with panels of wood or something on top it might look a bit more authentic. It's also not immediately obvious that the top surface is portalable, so you might want to stick another spotlight on it or something.
You need to use the neon indicator lights to fit with the rest of the underground Aperture theme. The modern dotted light strips seemed very out of place.
Awesome map!! Old aperture is my favorite!! The ending indeed frightened me...
More old aperture maps, please...
right at the beginning, where i should be able to go through a field, shoot down to the block (where stairs were recently added), then shoot another portal OVER the field, i am unable to shoot over it.
the shots appear to be blocked.
saw a guy complete on youtube this way, but it just will not work for me.
any ideas?

I agree on both accounts, the first one I'll eventually take care of.
However, I could not for the life of me figure out how to do the neon lights in a way that wouldn't take hours. The system that decal uses is totally different from the "modern" style. Until thats fixed, it will probably stay this way unfortunatly

That was recently added, I forgot to make the field visible, I will next update
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K6utCkcE4D4 Here is the intended path of that part
i am embarrassed to report that the only problem with the map was that i did not see the button between the 2 fields.
nice work!
OK, I'll be honest: I did make "lemonade" at the end of the level.
So I walked into office to push the obvious button that stood out like a square portal, and read the aperture sign about avoiding your future self and laughed, then after I pressed the button I turned round to the exit for a microsecond then started looking at the desk.
As I observed the computer thinking that it looked to advanced for the 50's, I suddenly recalled the bright jumpsuit-orange figure behind me, and then (still facing the desk) proceeded to shit myself as I realised that I hadn't put portals there, it took me a while to grow a pair and turn round only jump out my seat, playing 16 hours of a game where you are alone can really make you unprepared for the company of others.
As well as the ending, which is all everyone is talking about, the level was excellent in all.
Inspired by another member here I took a break from my college homework to record a blind playthrough of your map. I really enjoyed it - and the ending spooked me. If mouse control hadn't been taken away you would have seen me spazz, haha. Anyhow, here is the link to the video.

Should be HD quality here soon and don't watch if you haven't played through the map yet. Don't want to ruin it for anybody.
Look forward to more from ya dude.
Great Map!
I accually found it that good that I made a video about it.
It can be viewed here:

Thanks again!
This map was awesome ! ! ! I've tried 9-10 of them but this is the one i prefered (Great button...) Great job !
I liked the ending. Read spoiler for my real comment please note it does contain spoiler so do not read if you don't want to spoil it.
I jumped out of my chair was not expecting future Chell to show up. I think since one of the old aperture signs does say if you see a future you don't listen should give you a option to turn away and the future chell leave and regular elevator ride. More like away to escape the death scene what it seemed like to me.
I still liked the map though great job.
I started playing custom maps and record me playing them. It's neither a perfect run nor do I have to have solved the map in the way it's meant to solve it. I play the maps "blind", that means I've never been in them before and play them for the very first time. I also give a little feedback for the map in the video description.
Maybe you are interested in the fact, that I played your map: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8WTWc8P5Agg
The thing that amazed me the most was the construction of the level the puzzles were not hard but really good job you did int his map.
the ending scared the shit out of me damn
After all the updates, this map already smooth and well planned has become robust and intuitive. Among the best Old Apertures.
...30 seconds....mental skills right there!
Me and my partner in science had a race on this level (neither of us had played it before so it took us a lot longer that 30 seconds
) This level played really smoothly and was pretty intuitive overall (unless you are a fool, like Henry in our video below)...oh and it scared the living crap out of us... thanks for that
Good job, it was fun
To see our play through and hear the fear in our hearts check out the below:

Got here from a list of recommended mods by xdiesp. Well, this time it seems my taste does agree with his. Even if the ending does not make that much sense to me (what does elevator control have to do with time travel?): very good map!
Well this one is certainly memorable! Nice job! Can't wait to try it out on my daughter!
Great ending, not sure what it was all about with the earth being created but crapped my pants @ chell
Fun map. Looks good, not too hard to figure out, no "ninja" skills required. "Misdirect" ending was cute, even if the "and so the Earth was created" thing was a bit over the top.
4/5 from me.
I made some propulsion gel in my pants at that ending! But seriously this is a great map. Lots of fun, mildly challenging without breaking flow and best of all it uses the old underground Aperture art style!
Also I found a way to beat it without the cube or gel. Go me.
WOOT I got 40th 5/5 vote.
