Description

This time the theme is Red & it's set in 1960s Aperture! And it of course has to feature lasers and all 3 gel types! So a lot of people found Green too hard. I'll make up for it with this mild/easily solvable one ~ Enjoy! (Updated To Version 5 - Let Me Know If It Lags Still Due To Sound Overload Errors! - Note: This isn't an optimization problem, it's an ambient_generic problem) Notes: V 1.7 has sounds removed so it doesn't crash/lag. V 1.6 has the original music as planned that was removed due to... well some kinda weird Portal 2 Bug that I can't fix.

Some people may get lag with this map if you open and close a circuit VERY RAPIDLY causing some kind of a sound overwhelming bug.

I think this is a problem with the engine or maybe the SDK Beta, I'm trying to patch in a work around.

This was also why people were reporting Lag on Colours 2 and 3: if you force too many sounds to play at once in Portal 2 it starts freakin' out.

I played the maps 1-3 before and I really liked the difficulty of the third one. Too sad that u said this is going to be easier But as I didnt play it yet, i wont tell you to make harder ones.
But as soon as my coop mate comes on, we will play this for sure!

btw: I record all custom maps I/we play, I'll upload the records whenever I get the time to (internet is slow here, gotta upload at night or when im at university).

I'll post again when recording is done and/or uploaded

Anyway I can already say: Keep the maps coming! Awesome job you're doing there.

Gotta say i love your maps. The green one was awesome! I guess green is my favourite color now ;]
Looking forward to playing the fourth when my coop partner comes on!

Great job and thanks for bringing some colours into our worlds!

I Really love your maps. You?re doing a great job.
I?ve played the maps 1-3 already now im waiting for my co-op Partner to come online so i can play the 4th map.
I really liked the green map and the difficulty of it. I hope the red one it not to easy.
And in your green map (i dont think you should do it like this) you were able to get the cube that is jumping all the time on the Button. Maybe you could fix it by making the fence on the 2nd stage a little bit higher.

Really? Because the previous map attracted something close to 2 pages of people saying that they'd "Part ways" with the series if it continued to be at that level of difficulty.

I think most people prefer

1: Easily solved maps and
2: Maps that try to trick you by killing you when you perform an expected action.
3: Maps that stick to the original theme and refuse to deviate from it.

Those seem to be ones that get the highest ratings best reactions.

I'm not saying I'm going to be appealing to numbers 1 and 3 now,
but I might start thinking about going exclusively toward number 2 from here on out.

Yeah I agree, this is downloading uber slow. If someone could post an alternate download site link it would be much appreciated.

Will test it as soon as I can, but already I can say that it's lightweight compared to 3 and the atmosfear probably the best in the series so far. Well done with the music and lights!

Tried the map, looks great and is fun. Overall very good job.
Felt a little short and is a lot easier than green. I liked green better (well, ignoring that damn unliftable cube, that is)

thats just because they dont like to play portal as a puzzle but then a shooter. Lovetrip got an 3/5 though it is the best single player map till now. just because you cant solve it in 5 mins. well they can go play brainless shooter (which are cool) like CoD or this huge mount of others. but portal is unique. and a rating brings you also nothing. i would be sad if you loose you big potential just because some kiddys whining about puzzle that need a bit thinking with portals.

We played it now and its awesome!

But why does map4 link to map1? You gonna stop making more? :'(

Best map in the series so far! Richly detailed and packed with stuff to do. Music and graphics mix eerily, and you don't have to die every time you deviate 1 inch from the intended solution.

Also, to those arguing: jumping =/= puzzles. So far my favorite map has been Halls of Moenetius, for the sole reason we melt our brains solving it. ...Lovetrip lol.

We got all the way to the white gel on this one and then tried to figure it out for about 25 mins and gave up. Shrug Maybe it was just us being dense. Moving on to other maps until your next one comes out.

Great map, thanks!
There was one small issue though. I was messing around the in main room past the spawn area and got stuck behind the small wooden fold-out sign. There was no way out apart from suicide. Just a note. Otherwise, good job!

There's a lot of ways to solve it using white gel.
My personal gave is to use it on the very top of the map and travel it to reach the elevators.

Good map, less bewildering than the Green one.

I used the white gel to make a portal-able surface on the other side and use the excursion funnel to take us above the exit.

Was having fun until it started to lag badly then crashed. Happened 2 times in a row after the white gel started flowing.

Ey Ian, thanks so much for this whole colours series. I just played this latest one yesterdays afternoon (I couldn't earlier) and it's really good, as the others... Even though my favourite one is the n?2, in the moon, because of the atmosphere so detailed, and n?3 because it's very crazy and full of distractions (and the most difficult), this is again very good. I love the voices and music accompaning and guiding you all the time... I can't wait to test the 5th... I've seen the trailer in moddb.com.

Your maps are awesome, and VERY ORIGINAL... and, for me at least, that's the point! I'm a follower of your work since Portal 1's Hetzchase Nailway!! God, that was so crazy!

Thanks for keeping us playing!

keep on!

This upsets me, but it's true, most people seem to want easier puzzles that don't confuse them and stick to the portal 'guidelines' as it where, personally me and my partner in science prefer a bit of a challenge and like some imagination to be used in the custom maps we play (which you have done well considering how well you have also stuck the the 'guidelines'). I would suggest you add more 'easy buttons' to your levels or 2 routes like you did in Colours 2, but that would be more work for you, so that's up to you

Keep up the good work and we hope to be playing Colours 5 soon as we have just watched the trailer on your youtube channel As always here is a video of our play through (You probably don't want to watch the below if you haven't completed this map yet)

Do you guys have to scream "OOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW" every single time you get hit with a laser? It's incredibly annoying.

Just finished playing your 4 co-op maps, WOW. Map3 was my fav, we spent the first 5 to 10 mins just looking around, then little by little we started solving the puzzles untill we finished it. This was a bigger rush to me solving this map than the single player RESURRECTION http://www.portal2maps.net/286/resurrection.html which was really hard. Keep up your fantastic work with these brain crunching puzzles, please dont give in to the players who want to be able to finish maps in 5 mins.

I started playing custom maps and record me playing them. It's neither a perfect run nor do I have to have solved the map in the way it's meant to solve it. I play the maps "blind", that means I've never been in them before and play them for the very first time. I also give a little feedback for the map in the video description.

Maybe you are interested in the fact, that I played your map: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktqVa5SfTGU

I just played through all four of these, and I have to say that I really liked this one.

On my own (ss_map), I managed to get white gel on most of the surfaces, but I realized that the light bridge is on its own recessed surface, so I still couldn't get it through a portal.
