Description
Reduce Reuse Refract (v1.0) is a two part, difficult map involving lasers, redirection cubes, and of course, thinking with portals. For the first part, remember the map's name if you get stuck. Reduce, reuse, and refract! This is my first map, and my submission for the summer mapping initiative. I spent way too much time on this, so please, submit your feedback and tell me what you think. Good luck! -Lemures (06-06-11)

Well. I guess my entire last week was for naught then. This is really an unpleasant experience.

Here is the link anyway, in case anyone wants it for any reason. My mapping motivation is gone now. sigh
It was stated very clearly in the rules page, and on the forum thread (which was bascially a copy/paste of the rules page) for the whole 2 weeks.
After the judging period is over, you can feel free to modify the map further if you would like.
I know it was. I even remember seeing it. I even knew at the time I needed to include it. Simply put, I screwed up and forgot. People make mistakes, and this was one of mine. I don't expect to win the competition but it is thoroughly depressing to have committed 90 hours to a map, only to be disqualified because I forgot to include something in the upload. All of that time and effort and stress to be for naught just because of one silly mistake. Again, oh well. I understand. It is just tremendously depressing and discouraging. Thank you for at least telling me.
Look at it this way - at least you made and released a map. I haven't done that in years because I don't have the time or good ideas. I was working on a contest map myself and stopped after 2 puzzles because of time and energy.
I'm sorry friend, but it's definitely not "a waste" by any stretch.
Fair enough. Maybe there will be another sometime soon and I can resubmit it after fixing it up or something.
Because I've been disqualified, should I reupload my map to the Portal 2 Coop maps section? Or will it be moved there with the others at the end of the testing period?
It will be moved there at the end of the judgement period. At that point you can edit the upload with your VMF if you are inclined to do so.
I just played trough the map with a friend, and I have to say the puzzles are really cool and challenging. We had quite a hard but fun time, and its satisfying to play this till the end. Its a shame it has been disqualified
shadow-link was my coop partner while playing your map, and I'am fully behind his comment. Your map was great and I hope te see more puzzles like this. Its really unfortunate that the map got disqualified but please.. dont stop mapping!
5/5
Too bad it got disqualified, but don't worry too much: each and every masterpiece in the contest has been buried under 200 other entries. Maybe, releasing it afterwards will help it get a better spotlight.
Map's hard as nails, even leaving out the multilaser puzzle - which I despise even more in coops (solution below). Everything's built professionally, flow will most likely get a full time stop for a long time each chamber. The long arm of the mapper is also kind of lenient if you fail, with many cushion platforms at the bottom of the risky chamber 3: some good sign of getting it right.

Thank you Shadow-Link, Tabasco, and xdiesp, for your comments. I found getting disqualified, though being entirely my fault, to be utterly disheartening. Seeing that people liked it really cheers me up. Thank you.
Hey, my coop partner and me testing the map yesterday ...holy crap oO
We did it! But just with glitches and endless luck ...and we spend so long time for it! -.-
Can anyone make a video with the solution and upload it?
Our way is really sick and bordering on insanity, so I can not believe that this is planned! ^^
thanks

This. I would love to see a video walkthrough because I'm certain we did several parts of this map wrong. And we couldn't do the crazy multi-laser chamber. I hate laser tests with a passion. We spent a good deal of time on it and made good progress, but couldn't manage it...
Nice map overall, very challenging.

The laser room is actually one of the easier parts once you figure out that the checks need to be lit up in the order they go from left to right.
I'm playing custom maps and record my first time of playing them. So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:

Here's a video of a friend and I playing through this map. We did end up having to skip the multilaser puzzle (though we gave it an honest effort!), as well as one tiny bit of the ending. If we seem ticked off or overly critical at any point, don't take it personally - if nothing else, I'd encourage you to listen to our more objective final comments at the end as we run on the treadmill.
