Description
A little something I made for the mapping contest. I would say it is an easy/medium difficulty.

Quite the understated jewel, with impeccable design and one big itching puzzle it's exactly the kind of map you would suggest to someone just fresh of beating the game.
We should have a pack of these default but brilliant ones, which are totally sweet to play but fail to emerge from the rest.
Strange how this map has remained fairly "undetected"...
Anyways; great use of space & puzzle elements... You pulled off the clean look quiet nicely and playing with lasers is always fun
I spent about 10 minutes on it but enjoyed it alot!
I've spend more time silving it (sth abobut 15 minutes, but yes, map is very nice & challenging. Good work!
Really sharp looking map. A bit of trial and error on my part, especially figuring out the way to exit. I also had a glitch in which the elevator wouldn't move in the beginning, so I had to noclip out.

I don't get it, how to light all 3 of them ?
There you go! I didn't remember what to do.
Ahh! pff me stupid, thnx. And yes,a briljant plane map, not quite easy solvable [for me].
A bit of a headscratcher. I spent most of my time just trying to see where everything was, the actual solving was straightforward. A few visual cues to help find the targets wouldn't hurt. Also, a little more space to place the cubes. Twice, I bumped into the cube while leaving it behind, causing me to have to return to fix it. Finally, ]setting the lower portal for the laser was a bit hit or miss.
A nice combination of tools to use, not too obvious but not too hard, either.
I like it
!
I found a bug.
Way up high is a button to reverse the beam direction. Well if you leave the wrong block on the button then you make it impossible to get back up there.
At the least there needs to be a way to destroy both blocks just in case if you do something dumb like that.
I managed to get all three lights lit with no problem. The final white panel at the way top threw me off. Kind of annoyed me that if you used the wrong angle you would die or would have your portals delete. Maybe the white panels should be a little closer to the door so you don't die so easily.
The description says it's "easy to medium difficulty", well it was medium to me as it took time to figure out the right order in which to solve puzzles. I would describe it as one that stimulates thinking.

Some tricky stuff here Nezzy. Good one.
KingOfHeart I think the intended play-through for the exit is the one Portal2Two presented, but I agree with you about the reverse button.
Nice map Nezzy, keep them coming
Fun map. I frustrated myself by being careless with the funnel and knocking a cube out of alignment...twice. Duhhhh.
I played and uploaded this map back in July but didn't find the thread of the map anymore. Now that I found the thread, here is the video:

Hi everyone.
This is my first message in my not-natural-language (I'm french, nobody's perfect :/ ).
I've got a big problem. Once the map loaded, I'm stuck in the elevator and I can't do anything but crying.
Am I alone in this case?
I don't know if you're the only one, but one way to fix the problem is to go to the console.
(you can enable this via options, enable console) type in ` (when you press shift and that button you will get ~, that might make it a bit easier to find).
Then type in: sv_cheats 1
then noclip, now you can go through everything, so you can start the puzzle. After you got out of the elevator type in noclip again so you can solve the map normally
Hope that helped
~Lp
Thanks.
I'll try this ASAP.
NB: this is not the first time I've been stuck in the elevator. Until now, 3 fan maps are unplayable.
EDIT: I forgot to mention that beyond the elevator it's black all over
EDIT?: done! it works!
Nice map by the way
If you get the cube trapped on the button up top you can use the funnel from across the room to pick it up off the button.
Really clean looking for the most part. The elevator screens don't have anything going on, same with the sign at the entrance that normally has the hazards listed. It's just black for me. I really like how you have the cube set up to shoot the laser initially to really make a lot of puzzle elements clear right off the bat. Just to nitpick, some of the white panels across from the observation room lighting get reeeally bright. That might be how Valve did it too, but imo, turning them down a bit (if possible) would still keep the white light sterile feel without being washed out.
The only other complaint I have is to second what someone else already said: it's easy to accidentally move your boxes out of alignment by placing new portals in the wrong order and picking them up with the funnel. I also had the glitch where the elevator got stuck, but only when I tried to reload the map using "map chamber_06" while running an instance of the map already.
7 portals is the best I've done so far. I'll save people some time if they want by letting them know that it is possible to get the 90deg panel bridge to hit the box to you with enough attempts, so I'd just use portals/cheats to get it and call it good
Dunno if you've moved on to bigger and better things since this thing came out quite a while ago, but I really liked how this was put together. Nice job!
Cool map, but the reverse button for the funnel confused me. I couldn't find a use for the reverse function at all.
Now that's entertainment!
The end was a bit of a head scratcher
but I got through it. Everything functioned as intended. Thanks for the map and hope to see more!!
Personally, after two playtroughs, I have mixed feelings. The clean design of the level is definitely well done, and it's basically its best part. However, the design of the level's gameplay is very flawed, being less about puzzles and more about doing things again and again every single time you make a mistake. Let's list two major examples:
1. You have went to the area with the second box, removed it from its place and jumped down, only to realize that it was SUPPOSED to be there and never be moved? Well, have fun going there again and putting it back in its place!
2. You have placed one box next to the reverse switch, then brought the second one back to its rightful place, and then jumped down, but not on the area next to the excursion funnel but on the area next to the box button? Well then, there are no white walls OR stairs down there, so have fun basically turning back TO THE VERY START!
Honestly, this level could so much more enjoyable if you:
- Removed that part of the wall that separates the second box from the excursion funnel;
- Made the game automatically reveal some white walls on the area with the box button once you manage to leave it;
- Do the same thing to the area with the reverse switch AND the second box so one can just put a portal on the ceiling and jump up there without repeating any of the excursion funnel business.
Also, I find the lack of music (both during regular gameplay AND during excursion funnel rides) to be an important flaw too, as it's also a very important part of the gameplay. Aside of that, I agree what other people mentioned: better positioning of the white walls on the ceiling (or maybe adding some sort of bridge out of black blocks), and the fact that one can trap himself when going back to the box button area with reverse switch activated.
Right now, I'm giving it 3/5. Good idea and visuals, but needs some improvement, as it's currently more annoying than enjoyable.
So far I have tried angry tests, angry bombs, and patent pending. They were all great maps. I tried this one and it was good too. The thing that I didnt like was how tedious was to place the first cube behind the first lamp in order to make the laser bounce to the second lamp ( step 1 ). After doing that, and me getting on the platform where the second lamp is, its difficult to make again the portals to repeat step 1. Since I will be making the portals at an angle the laser wont bounce smoothly to the second lamp. It will bounce directly at the portal itself, or not hit the lamp or the cube at all. I just had to adjust the first cube in a certain position and thats how I got it to work. It should be easier to do that.
Great map, just fix the portals being made at an angle and how the laser goes through them.
I like the idea that you have to use funnel to slow falling speed to be able to reach exit, something that you rarely do in this game being accustomed to fall boots.
Map is "easy" on my scale. And I don't mind easy maps as long as they are fun to play like this one, so 5/5 from me.
A little something I made for the mapping contest. I would say it is an easy/medium difficulty.
