Description

This is a Portal 2 custom map I made for the ThinkingWithPortals.com Summer Mapping Contest 2011. I did the best I could with the limited time I had, so I hope you enjoy it. It's a cube based test chamber, but still challenging. Just think of what you can do with the cube und take it with you where you can.

Honest and thorough, without peaks of brilliance: but moving the cube around was enjoyable, well done. Little idiosyncrasies from haste however, as odd geometries.

Didn't found that challenging, but yes, it was fun.
I notice a little bug, thoug.in the second room there is a part where the panel are a little not well placed. You can enter there and fall out of the world, without any other way to come back than noclipping.

Thank you for your feedback.

I changed the layout and the puzzle several times and at the end I was running out of time. But as I wrote I did the best I could with the time I had.

My playtests with the final version worked fine, so I'm sorry for the bugs, I didn't notice them.

Very neat; this one could be in the original game, in terms of difficulty.

Hi, Nice map I enjoyed playing around with the orange funnel in the first room trying to get the cube through. Not sure if I used much of the intended solution or not as I avoided using/encountering the following:

Didn't need to pass through the field to the left with the drone into the area with the cube dropper. Didn't need to modify the status of the button controlled field in the last toxic pit room.

If this was a shortcut I'm happy to elaborate on the method and offer suggestions to prevent it.

Thanks for mapping!

Okay thanks for mentioning, looks like you really discovered a shortcut which isn't supposed to be there.

The normal solution should be:
Use the cube and the funnel to eliminate the turret near the faith plate/cube dropper. Deactivate the fizzler and use the faith plate by yourself to jump over the toxic water in the second room.

Can you tell me how you did it?

I'm planning to make an updated version of the map with some bug fixes and improvements.

So please tell me if you find any bugs, shortcuts or if you want to see something particular to be changed.

An enjoyable map - I had fun using the cube extensively throughout the puzzle. However, the map is plagued with odd geometric choices (slanted walls that don't serve any purposes and that really odd half-circle juttering out into the water's edge) as well as an array of unmatching textures (which range from clean style to destroyed aperture to old aperture walls).

Also, in the first room, the fizzler that separates the player from the first button has one of its pillars sticking out of the brush. Due to the model originally being designed to actually format to a brush, you can thus see the model's inherit nodraw surfaces. Here's a snapshot of it:

4/5.

I'm playing custom maps and record my first time of playing them. So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:

Mathematically speaking, this puzzle was over-specified, having more elements than you need to solve it. Even so, it was fun to figure out, and then even more fun to find ways to exploit it, knowing what you didn't need. The turrets were hardly obstacles at all. The thought that this could have been better without major changes almost made it a 3, but I like it enough the way it is to give 4/5.

Today I started working on this map again. I want to release an updated version soon. Thanks to everyone who posted feedback here so far, it's really helping me a lot. Especially the video from Djinndrache was eye opening. When you see someone playing your map, you realize what could've been made better. The video showed some exploits I'll fix and I try to make it more clear what the player has to do.

KennKong can you tell me which elements are unnecessary? I'm currently thinking about removing the excursion funnel. It was meant for eliminating the first turret to the left and the third one before the second room. I'll try to find different solutions for them.

So far I only fixed some visual issues, but I'll work on the gameplay as well. So I'm happy about every feedback
