Description

A map I had laying around my maps folder for the past few weeks, I originally made it for Easter, and was going to make a joint map with LPFreaky90.... but she was too busy, I figured I would just share this map with you.. its not perfect, it was just a fun outdoormap. not meant to be super challenging. just an easy walk through the park. Feed back would be appreciated Hah... this is actually my first map uploaded to this site, so enjoy... and rate honestly

I really liked the version you sent me earlier; let's see if it's still good

Something totally new. And I think, I saw a deer.
But sadly it is way too obvious what to do and it took me only about 3 minutes to complete the map.
Nevertheless, good work. 4/5.

thanks
it was never meant to be difficult at all, more of a fun experience outside.

EDIT: I think this was my 100th post

Nice map, I love the fact it was outside that was an excellent change of pace from what we are all used to. That ending though, it literally sent chills down my spine. I loved it. Sure it was simple but hey, as you said it wasn't supposed to be difficult and sometimes the simplicity of a map can be a good thing.

Super relaxed now, cheers!
Was getting a teletubbies-on-an-alien-planet vibe and skipped around the map merrily for 5 mins before attempting to complete it =)

Hey, nice work, really enjoyable. Nice work with the sunset fading to darkness. So subtle I didn't even notice it until it was almost night.

I have to admit, though, that I actually solved it wrong. I didn't use the floor button on the hill, I just flinged myself on to the cube hill... Ah well, once I noticed the button I saw what I should have done.

Great ending, too!

Very good visuals in a very bad puzzle. The puzzle seems to be really put together without much of thoughts. Too bad.

glad to see you noticed that I was hoping someone would.... it actually is setting and not just fading.
I was going to fix that exploit with a laser-fizzler but I felt that it would take away from the "fun" experience for those who might find the fast way.
Glad you liked the ending

Well I'm sorry you didn't like the puzzle, however if you had read any of my comments or the description, you would see that the puzzle was not meant to be challenging, and it did take you almost 5 mins which is enough time in my book.
glad you enjoyed the visuals though

A Portal map which does not focus on puzzles is not really a Portal map. You may be mapping for the wrong game then. A puzzle doesn't have to be challenging, there are also simple puzzles which are kinda adorable. But this puzzle is just annoying. Very short timers where you really have to hurry and then even if you make it to "grab" the cube with the funnel, it will still be fizzled many times. If there wasn't a somewhat-cool world to watch while playing, this would be one of the worst maps ever created (just considering the gameplay / the puzzle).
This being said this map comes down to a 1/5 for poor frustrating gameplay and a 4.5/5 for original, unique and actually decent visuals.

And just because a puzzle takes time to solve that doesn't mean it's good. I can create you the worst puzzle you have ever seen that will take you 5 minutes and you'll still dislike it.

There were maps in the actual portal 2 which did not actually focus on puzzling. These were the bts maps, and they were focused on the scenery and story. in those maps you would occasionally shoot a portal, but really it was just a time to let your mind take a break.
I obviously cant please everybody, but sometimes its nice to chill, no need to rage .
also I watched your video, and you should use portals so you don't have to hurry... this is a portal game after-all

Nobody is raging here. If you can't take subjective feedback without raging, then better don't ask for feedback at all.

Oh sorry, I thought you were raging... I'm not. im chill all da time. and I can take feed back, and I do appreciate it. If I do make another map like this I will make it more puzzley

4/5. I hope this inspires others to begin creating outside maps. What I have envisioned for Portal 3 is GlaDOS taking control of the outside world, using her bots to force humans to test for her, with Chell to the rescue again. With 3-player maps, too. They'll say this is where it all began.

I shouldn't be nit-picky about a simple concept map, but the funnel needs an info_placement_helper. I was trying to fling from the pedestal side to the super button side, and fire a portal into the funnel on the way up, but I kept missing it.

PCdoc • Apr 27, 2012 • #54129

I used the timed angled board and the funnel only.
I funneled up and onto the button hill.
I pressed the button, jumped off the hill and into the funnel - let the funnel lift me high, then shot a portal into the angled board.

That dropped me and flung me through the angled portal and up onto the hill with the cube
.

90 secs total.
I give you credit for making the first, all-outdoor map.
I would like to see a LOT MORE outdoor maps.

If this is supposed to be 'outdoor', why does the funnel stop at an arbitrary point in the air?

Just kidding, I love the looks of this map. Especially the light dots going up the hill like a trail of breadcrumbs, and the way that the paths disappear outside the fence towards the 'horizon'. Almost looks kind of Myst-like

i loved this map the outdoor style was something new to me and should be done more often i wonder if the hills are made with blender

I'd guess the hills are probably displacements. That's how I would do it anyway.

thanks , that was the solution. its a short map because it was going to be smashed together with other outdoor maps which people were too busy to make, so I published mine solo
