Don't vote 5/5 on your own map!

I'll strongly echo the above statement. If you inflate your score by voting 5/5 as soon as you release, people will automatically assume you think your map is perfect, and you wont bother to update and improve it- so why should they bother giving you suggestions?

The puzzles in these maps lack direction. Either too easy, or not solvable simply on the basis of not knowing what the goal is.

My suggestions is instead of 10 random test chambers, release one, single test chamber- put it in works in progress, and get to work. Also, alot of hammer tutorials. I noticed my framerate was really, really low where there was no detail at all. You may need to throw in some func details, or use area portals to cute of visclusters when neccessary. I'm not sure exactly which is the problem as there is no VMF.

Since this map is already out, I suggest you start improving it ASAP. If you voted your own map a 5, you have a duty to make the map better, or else you are wasting their time.

To repeat- less chambers, more polish. Quality over quantity.

LOL. ColSarge, you are talking to this guy as if he's an adult.

I can assure you that he's not.

Hopefully he'll get better- would be a waste to discourage him after his first try, when potentially starting so young could make a great mapper...eventually.

Its like wikipedia's guidelines to helping editors "don't bite the newbie"

Problem isn't the final product- its he didn't know where to start. "10 chambers" is not a good idea, especially if he doesn't know how to use func__detail.

Besides, we can't all start out making masterpieces like "Vengeance" which I WILL COMPLETE, AND REFUSE TO EAT/SLEEP TILL I DO!

Ha! Thank you.

But please do take care of your biological needs too.

Crudely built collection of several short rooms, not unlike a unit styles level. Not yet marketeable for the standards around here, but it's a start.

I'm playing custom maps and record my first time of playing them. So the run is not perfect and may not use only intended ways, but maybe it can let you see how other people may understand the map or you could just enjoy someone playing this map for entertainment.
Anyways, here is the recording:

Obviously a new contender for worst map on TWP. (playgrounds excluded)

oh god there's a giant unsightly door in the gel chamber... oh god vertex textures... misaligned textures everywhere... overlapping brushes... func_doors overlapping with brushes... no func_detail on horribly angled faces... no optimization... no clipping into walls for things like laser catchers, point light entities, need I say more?

Yes.... He's 12. Been doing this for all of 2 months now. Pretty awesome for the experience level he's at. (and he actually appreciated the comments. Most of them, anyways, haha)

2/5. I encourage parents to let their little prodigies try their hands at tasks which can be completed without a great deal of initial skill, but which require developing those skills to achieve a superior result.

The only problem I see here is that the responsible adult didn't encourage the child to go back and fix the mistakes. Maybe you don't care if they become a great mapper, but you should care if they take pride in their handiwork, and have the dedication to finish what they start.

Disclaimer: This is why I have dogs, not children.
