Description
Hi, This is my very first game map. I have never made any game maps or anything related to 3D before.(except for I posted this map in the WIP section) Most of you must have played the Peer Review DLC by now. I wanted to release this map before the DLC but I really didn't have time (and still don't have). Well better late than never. The map consists of 2 short and 1 medium length puzzles. My map is very less detailed , about 1/10th detail of the maps made by pros here. There is a readme file included for setup instructions. Suggestions, criticisms, trapped areas, not intended solutions , and all other feedback are welcome. I may not have time to fix every minor issue but do specify if you found any(may help me in the future). Haven't worked on optimizations and will not unless really necessary. I have changed the files from the WIP version so do the custom music and material still work? Changelog from WIP version -changed the exit -reduced file size -improved lighting -fixed some bugs -added some detail Well I hope this turns out to be a great map for you all. Edit: Known issue:In puzzle 3 if the door doesn't open even if the 2 laser relays are powered noclip it

Test 1: nice map
Test 2: Are those turrets only there to annoy you? What do I have to do with the laser?
Test 3: Ew... laser relay puzzle.
All in all a nice set of puzzles. Test 1 easy, test 2 medium test 3 hard!
Looks are very good: 4/5; great!

Use the laser-director-cube-thing (lol whats it called?) to redirect the laser onto the turrets.
In the second test, it seems like the turrets kill you way too fast.

Nah, just ninja! No need for laz0rs, and just a bit of timing for the turrets
Harmless little bunnies!

Hey there ninjas, did you cheat in Valve's puzzles. Then I'm satisfied with my design
I didn't ninja official portal 2 maps. I am at this point working on getting almost all alternative solutions removed from the mod I'm working on though.
And I think you can still be satisfied with your design
Edit: this is my ninja-way!

Gah, I can't seem to figure out the third test..
I assume I'm supposed to do something like this, but it doesn't work because the light bridge is too high up..

@ lpfreaky90: By the manner you mention it your map 'portal stories' is going to be big I suppose.
Can't wait to play it. But the title seems too below average.
I also have about 4 to 5 big puzzle ideas in mind but I seriously don't have time. I worked on this map mostly on Sundays. This map is the start of a story. Maybe I'll update this map with a new puzzle in 2-3 months(about 12 Sundays)

Oh, you have no idea!
By the way, it's not a map, it's a mod!

As Djin mentioned, it's not a map, it's a mod.
I can't wait to release it
.
But first stuff needs to be finished of course
.
The title might not be the most awesome ever, agree, but you will see later why it has this name
For more information you can visit our moddb page: http://www.moddb.com/mods/portal-2-mel .
So enough offtopic, it's a nice map, the final puzzle is quite a brainbreaker and it is very very very impressive for a first map! Really awesome job
Can't wait till the 12 weeks are over
Beautiful looking map, with extra content for entertainment's sake. This must be my week for maps requiring snatching cubes in flight. I wasted a lot of attempts trying to get the third one, then finally wised up and only took about ten attempts to get the second. I must say, I'm sick of jumping over lasers and especially jumping through portals on lightbridges with lasers. You can turn the deadliness off when it doesn't matter to the puzzle, right? But that's just one of my pet peeves. Unfortunately, this map also has another one, stacking laser cubes. Last gripe: the ending got a little repetitive.
All griping aside, this was an excellent map in all areas. A well deserved 5/5 from me.
EDIT: On the second playthrough, I again got terrible lag when I would aim a laser through a portal on the lightbridge in the third chamber. It would go away after several seconds, though.

I get the feeling that u did not solve as i intended. The intended solution is actually easy-No ninja skills are required. I have explained the solution here:http://forums.thinking.withportals.com/topic5120.html . Please reply.
and extra content was partially for entertainment's sake, but there's a story to follow.
Really great map. The last laser chamber was harder than most - not only complex to set up but very hard to execute with a cube pickup while in the air.....Sorry got bored after several tries....an noclipped the cube pickup...
wonderful mapping and excellent use of dialog...Thanks for creating.
I really enjoy it. If its your first map then respect and congratulations. Community can expect great things from you. For me definitely the last puzzle was the best. Portal its not about graphics is about creativness and imagination and in that part you definitely succeded - 5/5 from me
Setup for chamber 3
AfterMathSolve1.jpgIn your explanation, you grab the cube I've labeled #1 (top left). I grab the cube labeled #2 (top center). At first, I was trying to grab #3 (off screen, left).
Chamber 1: http://youtu.be/aDeznozfMEw
Chamber 2: http://youtu.be/uLXS8pR2CbQ
Chamber 3: http://youtu.be/1bUznJQzZTk
Epilogue: http://youtu.be/laR8KoARpxo
A fun map, especially liked the third chamber. That probably took me at least an hour and was quite challenging!
5/5
Thanks for the feedback everyone.
@ macko68 :"Portal it`s not about graphics is about creativness and imagination and in that part you definitely succeded"
Good to know that there are players who think that way.
@KennKong: As wheatley said : Yes, you 'solved' it, but I'm wondering if there are a number of ways to solve them and you're picking all the worst ways.
No offence. I actually appreciated your play-through. Thanks for the feedback and videos.
I designed the 3 cubes to be in such a position that at least at some point in time the player will realize that he has to grab a cube in flight. Now which cube to grab was quite straightforward. The cube on the light bridge was exactly in your flight path and anyone should have been able to grab it in less than 5 tries. Maybe I overestimated players. I'll try lowering the speed of flight in the next update. It was actually very hard to grab the cube on the central wall. But you did it. And nobody positions the cube before directing a laser to the cube which you are positioning.
I'll keep in mind about the framerate drop
In your video of 1st puzzle I saw a bug(Crap!!). The stairs did not deactivate after you removed the cube .Does it replicate.
I assumed all players would have played Portal 2 before designing this map.
In the Peer review DLC there was a level where you had to grab a flying cube in flight while your partner activated the button. In this you had to time it right with your partner let alone internet lag.
It took me about 15 tries to grab it.
I'm stuck on the lasers. . . I'll figure it out eventually. I don't like using walkthroughs. lol
I really liked this map. I think I found an unintended solution to part of the third chamber.
I'm a newbie and for some reason I cannot post img tags, so I'll have to do this as URLs instead:

Good one! Thanks
Great puzzles, it took me a long time to wrap my head around them but once I did the solutions were obvious. Extremely impressive for a first time map. I grabbed the same cube as you, KennKong.
I have an issue: After finishing chamber 3, the door doesn't open for me and if I go on the fourth faith plate again, Wheatley repeats his line.
I also found that it's possible to grab the fourth and fifth cubes earlier than intended by stacking the other three below them and jumping up. This doesn't really break the puzzle sequence though.

I saw that issue myself sometimes. I just thought that i kept portal 2 open idle for a long time and it must have died (Weird things happen if you Keep portal 2 open idle for a long time .Seen it enough times to say it and it happens with Portal 2's own official maps. Solution is to restart it).
Now that you mention the issue ,it seems to be a real one. But i don't know what's going wrong.
I'll create a topic for the issue....
EDIT:
Here's the topic if you have a suggestion:http://forums.thinking.withportals.com/mapping-help/problem-with-math-counter-and-prop-laser-relay-t5441.html
Holy epic frickin cow. I downloaded it. Had to use Djindrache's video to solve a minor problem I had solving the laser portion. I paused it after I realized the solution. Then I go to that hallway. you know, the long one with the glass and the epic sauce view. I was quite surprised. Beyond surprised. I almost pooped my pants. Best first test ever. Actually, best test ever. out of everything. My rating of it: over 9,000
Fun map - thanks!
It looks like I solved it differently than most; I didn't redirect any lasers at an angle through the central portal; instead I placed two cubes on the floor redirecting lasers up, then placed two cubes on the central pillar to catch the vertical beams and activate faith plates 2 and 3. This takes some care to do correctly, but has the benefit of making it easy to walk across the light bridge without dying or getting knocked off.

Thanks for the feedback. I guess you knew the intended solution before solving it that way(People are getting used to playing custom maps
)Even Djinndrache played it the intended way. You could use the cube(which you always have in hand most of the time) to block the lasers and clear your path. Now for the exploit. Should i make a ledge on all 4 sides of the central wall(that would look bad and senseless).Anyway i won't be updating anytime soon(designing a new puzzle right now and it has some orientation issues).

Holy laser cube batman!
What I did was stack the cubes and jump on top of them to get to the launchers then stacked the cube and used the laser - mid air freeze glitch to activate the last faith plate.
Also When the credits started it scared the shit out of me when it said my name first. I'm like > chickenmobile wrote:
:O it knows my name!
(P.S. Move the instance a little down so then the doors don't appear above the ground)
Nice map, enjoyed thoroughly

1>Could you explain me laser mid air freeze glitch. I do not know about it yet.
2>You are talking about the pedestal right? If i move it 1 unit down it disappears completely.

The glitch in action:
I liked this map. That last puzzle had me scratching me head for ages, and I really hated having to constantly jump the laser-on-bridge.
Really good use of the wheatley lines. Had me giggling at certain points.
I liked the second puzzle most, just something satisfying using a laser to blow up turrets.
And that ending shot on the way out... very cool.

Well I hope this turns out to be a great map for you all.
