Description

Not to say that this is a hard map. But I enjoyed working on it. Good luck!

Wow that was confusing... oO
Somehow this reminds me of one of my own maps...It's like a mix of the last part of Chander Test 1 and the second room in Heavens Gate ...
But this version is like OVER 9000! Why is it called Supernova? You should name it back and forth^^
Normally I like your simple and less detailed clean style bit this time it was a bit frustrating. Everything was looking the same and I had hard times in orientation. Some diffrent colours would have been nice...
I'm always surprised how you pull off those giant maps! In the end every puzzle element is fitting together and everything is working so perfectly that it shudders me...
Guys I can tell you there is not a single "trick" in this map. Everything is pure logic and this is so hard to create. I'm truly amazed Chander! This is not you hardest map but it's a beauty. Again 5/5



Maybe I'll record a video tomorrow. It will be hard to make a clean run on this and stay under 15 min.

A small problem... I went up the orange funnel and pressed the button to get the cube. That worked.. pressing the button a second time made it getting stuck inside the dropper. I' pretty sure this isn't intentional, but I've played your devilish maps before so I can't be too sure

I call this map in a hurry. Name "Supernova" not include spoiler, and I liked it.
I think it could be called this map "Wandering". Maybe i changed name.

I agree with MarKiu that this map was disorienting at times, which made it hard to complete. I would also add that I found it somewhat repetitive, doing the same thing over and over again. But, as always, there are many unique elements to the map, and, hey, at least I was able to complete this one.

Good grief! I thought this was way harder than previous Chander tests! Probably 'cause I have no sense of direction, and the map was designed to disorientate >.< Took me like 5 attempts to take the right turning while jumping from the tall wall, and a long time to notice the second acid\bridge room! I probably found the last test more satisfying to play, but this one more satisfying to solve (even if a lot of it was down to blind luck!). Great map, thanks ^^

Wow that was pretty confusing. It took me a good while and because the rooms looks so same I thought that you were just messing with world portals. It took me good 10 minutes to realise that there were 2 different lightbridge rooms.

I still enjoyed the puzzle. Disorientation wasn't annoying and I enjoyed solving it. Keep up the good work!

That's exactly what I thought for the longest time. But it was just some kind of optical illusion. Note to self: expect more maps exploiting limited depth perception in P2.

@sigmas55 and chabon333: Nobody here is going to tell you or show you how to complete a map. The whole point is to discover for yourself the joys of being a test subject. And that requires patience. Good luck to you both!

Thanks Chander. I solved it in about 2.5 hours. I was also massively confused by the connectivity and the similarity of the various areas. I thought you were using world portals even after I noticed there are slightly different textures on the ceiling in the two downstairs areas. Once I had finally drawn a map, it wasn't too hard.

Puzzle design is pretty clever , but unfair / awkward execution challenges ruin it.
I was very much frustrated by the low angled flings required to reach the upper room's light bridge , entering portals at less than 45? is very unreliable. But I only gave up after the short funnel timer pulled me back up as I tried to toss the 3rd cube , requiring a restart. A pity , the lower room puzzle looked interesting.

I also performed these low-angled flings and couldn't get enough height. Then I realised you can use the higher walls above the exit room and bounce all the way back to the laser room. Now I see that it is technically possible to fling to the required height while staying in the laser room, but it's quite ninja- for me anyway. Anyway, agreed that this isn't a highlight of the map.
Edit: fling
Here's my version of the fling. I needed to hit the wall to avoid flying into the goo. As I said, this isn't needed if you start from the room above the exit and bounce back to the laser room.

Speaking only for myself, it took me so long to get through the whole thing that I don't feel like editing all that video. And I'm too tired to try to replay the map in a more reasonable amount of time.
here's a hint
You can carry a cube down a lightbridge and place it on the platform above you, then use the portals to get yourself to it.
BTW, does anyone else feel the timing for getting the cubes downstairs is a little tight? I lost count of the quick loads I used there.

yes i know that but the platform with the funnel to get to the 2nd part of the room (wich is equal from the 1st one) hasnt any walls so its troubling me to get me there with the three cubes. i can get 2 cubes and myself there, or the 3 cubes but not me and its driving me crazy

Yeah I also felt it would take a bit too long to make a video. My guide to the downstairs bridge puzzle:
There are 4 funnels along the diagonal of the map. One near the entrance, two in the middle "island" and one near the exit. You have to gradually move the cubes from the entrance corner, to the middle island, up a middle funnel and down into the second room and then to the exit funnel. It's important to maintain access to the middle island, so one cube needs to stay in the first room (the corner clockwise from entrsnce) while you take a cube through the funnels into the second room. Then you can portal through and access the island from a bridge in the second room. It's important to be really clear on the layout and where you can portal from/to. To be honest I used a bit of trial and error with this rough strategy.

I sent you a solution to the second part via PM. But really, you'll feel better if you work it out yourself. It isn't that hard (who'd ever think we'd be saying that about a Chander map?)

EDIT: Just for giggles, who wants to do a least portals run on this puppy? I used 22 in the second part alone, and I'm almost certain that can be beaten. And just so I don't waste any more posts on this: Chander, this is my favorite map of yours so far. I'm sure the ninjas are a little disappointed, and Xtreger or marKiu wanted to figure out a really dirty trick, but this one was my type of puzzle map. I really would like it if you published it in the Workshop, so I can add to my collection of Favorite Puzzle Maps. It really makes me want to hack the webserver so I can give it a 6.

I'm figuring out what to do just fine, I've got the top floor solved, but god, this is infuriating.

EDIT: Just solved the whole thing, bottom floor was very nice and enjoyable. It was, as others have noted, very disorienting though, but sorting through that was part of the fun.

It took me until the last of Chander's non-workshop maps before I thought a fewest portals run might be fun. And I even started recording this one, until I was stopped half way through by an issue with demos that seems peculiar to this map.

If I try to record a demo in the second part of the map (lower level, after getting the 3 cubes) Portal 2 immediately stops running (vanishes without a trace). It runs fine if a demo is not recording.
There seems to be a specific boundary within which the problem occurs - anywhere below the floor of the two mid-level areas. It doesn't matter if a demo is recording when I enter the area, or if I enter the area first and then start recording, the result is an immediate crash. I also tried it on a completely different computer, with the same result.

Can anyone suggest a way to get this working?
(Note: with my hardware, live recording with fraps is not a suitable option.)

For anyone else who wants to seek their own "giggles", here are the targets:
Entire map: 24 portals
(1st part: 14 portals, 2nd part: 10 portals)

The second part can be done using 18 portals with pure non-ninja logic.

EDIT: One of the reasons for the recording bug was loading a saved game prior to starting a demo. Having to record this run without using saves made it harder than it needed to be.
