MarKiu, I can't download it. It appears an "404 - NOT FOUND" error... Would that has to do with any failure in the forum? or maybe due to a broken link? please revise

And I'm eager to play it!

Really nice screenshots!

I tried to download the new version of [SP]Encode and the download is broken too.
Maybe we both uploaded in a server downtime... it should work now, hopefully...

Looks more than awesome, got me quite excited to try this. Not sure if it was random or something wrong with your map, but i got a crash to desktop when i loaded it, a few seconds in. I never got a crash on P2 before, that's why i suspected it might be your map. Anyway, i'll try again later. Hope it was just random, or if it's actually an issue with the map, that you'll seek and destroy it.

I have just started and I cannot understand why the white walls will not allow me to shoot a Portal into them. They are standard, white walls - which always are portable. Whenever walls are not portable they are either black, or grey, or . . well, anything but white. Couldn't you have made the surfaces that are non-portable using non-portable colors ? Otherwise, the player is forced to shoot at everything, everywhere to see what is and what is not portable.

I shot at everything possible and only the floor and that boxed are behind is portable.
I must be missing one portable surface somewhere, but I spent 15 minutes shooting all over the place. And that damn button - unlike all other buttons that help you by turning OFF a fizzler - this one only hurts you even more by turning ON a fizzler. I am wondering why anyone would ever want to activate that button ? I sure hope this ends up being good. If only I could somehow get started. I simply MUST find the portable WALL !!!!

You know you need more than 3 of those little tiles in white colour and shoot the portal "in line" (aligned) to those white tiles for opening the portal, right? Anyway, the latest version is clearer as marKiu has reduced those white tiles lines on the walls from 3 to 2 little tiles in height...

I think you are trying to portal the tiles that he doesn't want you to. Check out the wall where the floor_button is located on the far right of the entry door, there are portalable white tiles there: get high enough with the bridge, and then..........

josepezdj, I did try the light bridge and got as high as I could and then jumped and did the 2 portals floor seesaw thing, looking at the top of each seesaw vertical . . . but could not find any new portable surface as I scanned the area at the top of the seesaw movement. I see a cube across the water and up high that may be portable underneath but a fizzler blocks me from shooting it.

I also tried to strafe over to the main light bridge but am coming up just short. Will try some more. Thanks

MarKiu - you have given 2 clues:
1) Portable surfaces are chessboard Patterns
2) computer Doc should try harder not more

For me I actually am trying harder. I have thoroughly searched for a portable surface - I can only see the floor I am standing on, as well as the walls in that alcove behind. However - no other chessboard patterns appear anywhere else.

I also used the Light Bridge to climb the wall behind me to increase my view from up there - but - no other chessboard patterns appear from that vantage point. From there up on the light bridge I then shot a blue portal below me and an orange into the only chessboard I could see in the floor right across the creek of acid which is where I came in. Shot the portals, and I flung ( wait a minute is "flung" even a word ? hehehe ) up in the air 20 feet. I wanted to see additional chessboard patterns suddenly come into view. From somewhere - anywhere !!! But I was SADLY MISTAKEN. No new or previously hidden chessboard patterns appear from that vantage point.

Lastly, I tried to jump to the light bridge but it is a bit too far away.
And without a chessboard on the wall, I cannot fling to the lightbridge.
Would it be possible to get a 3rd clue ?

I think ill delete the other white surfaces because its too confusing. i wanted them just for the look because otherwise the map is way too dark. mappers know that u cant shoot a portal on those. u need it to be 2 squares wide and 4 squares high ( actually 3and a half) to place a portal vertically from a standard position.

hint: its possible to reach the lightbridge. there are no unseen portable surfaces. everything u require is the floor and the wall behind you. +++++ u should know how to strafe otherwise it could be very hard or even impossible to reach the bridge.

Ahaaa ! ! Well that's it then. I have known for months that I am not doing the strafe jump right. Can you, or anyone - tell me how to do it ? I have asked this before on the Off-Topic forum and was told that you simply move sideways while in the air instead of forward. Sideways is supposed to give you much more movement. So I placed a portal right at the edge so that the side of the portal is next to the water. Then just as I drop through the bottom Orange portal I press "A" so that as I fling up I am moving sideways. I even tried pressing "A" slight before I drop through the Orange portal so that I drop through it already moving sideways. Then I tried "A" and Crouch together since crouch does make you fling forward farther. Nothing got me there.

See below - as I fling upward I only get about 2/3 of the way there and then the sideways movement stops. It seems to stop just as I reach the peak of the fling and then I drop straight down vertically into the pit and there is no more sideways movement. I am wondering if the PS3 players are able to move more than a PC Player ? Or perhaps PC players with a gaming pad. If that has no effect and does not help them, then do you have any idea what I am doing wrong ?
TIA - Doc

yeah u doin it almost right. when u drop in the orange portal look straight up and start pressing "a" before drop through. then u come out of the blue portal facing down and still pressing "a". turn left slowly untill u reach the highest position. ( turn about 120?) then u press "d" and turn back right. im not at home atm. but i will upload a video tomorrow and show you. i dont know if im pressing "w" in air or not. u need to try by urself or wait for my video. im sure if its done perfectly its almost possible to jump over the bridge. but i cant do it either.
i dont know if ps3 players have any advantage. but u will need a mouse later. there are some jumps where u need to make very fast end precise turns that are very hard to perform with a controller.

I tried that about 50 times , I successeded only 1 time randomly but by wrong I fell of the bridge *I was like going to blow out * well it is my fault that I didn't quicksave after all but still , why did you make it so hard like this ?? it,s nearly impossible for even medium level players to make it

Played again, no crash at all. So, false alarm.

As for the map, amazing stuff. I admit i got a bit frustrated at the beginning, didn't even thought to jump-strafe on that bridge. Just got high and tried to find somewhere to throw a portal. As for the little white walls, personally i don't have a problem with them. Some design variety. And it's quite obvious that you can't shoot on them. It's not like white walls with 2 squares height don't exist on any other maps already.

wow nice one muwhahaha. i cant do it directly^^ . do u guys think this jump is too hard? when i desinged the map i had two ideas to get on the bridge without a cube. my first option was placing the bridge over the button ( like muwhahaha did in his video ) and then jumping around the corner on the bridge. but i stretched the corner so its impossible now because this jump was even harder... u had to strafe almost 90? and i could do it only every 5th try. anyways nice feedback guys but the real pain is coming after that jump ... btw u only need to do it once. there are two easier options if u have a cube.

Good looking map and amazing pieces of puzzles. Not too hard but the beginning was a bit annoying though. In fact I solved everything else and yet couldn't get on the bridge... I had some crazy ideas but ditched them in favor of the ones in the video. It's far from perfect but I had a lot of fun playing this map. Keep it coming marKiu, really impressive for a first project!

How moving left then right makes you jump a lot farther is beyond me - but it does. So the bridge is NOT too far. Thanks a lot for the tip - I have been wondering how these guys are able to make the monster jumps for a long time. Now I know.

Kudos to a2912871 (or Eugenio?). Impressive solution!

I have to say that I was on the good way, but I got stuck after getting out of dot2 (I went out the same as in the video btw) because I simply didn't think of that setting of the cubes redirecting the laser beam for alowing you to be catapulted. I knew how was going to be the final steps, but I never figured out the final how to.

MarKiu: ABSOLUTELY IMPRESSIVE FIRST PUZZLE! I know you've been following Jonatan's or Chander's job and you like hard maps, same as me... but man, this puzzle you have developed is truly AMAZING... and moreover when it is your very first one. There are a lot of mapping glitches or bugs though, of course totally comprehensible as it's your first card:

  1. It seems that you have some kind of problem with aligning perfectly the light_covers and you finally show the nodraw/or panel_light textures behind them. You can see some brilliant white lines flickering while you play and take a look around them... Also there are more misaligned brushes like this column in the picture below:

  1. Also the laser_emitter and laser_catchers should be placed inside the walls by clipping the walls and allowing them a space into the walls.

  2. The glass windows are also glitching in the window frames. I'm not sure if because of the glass brushes themselves (they seem oversized or, even though with the right size, like if you would have put the glass brushes out of the right position) or because the walls surrounding are overlapping the frames....

Man... I felt like decompiling your map, fix all of that myself in hammer and resend it to you in a pm so you could upload a more neatly version!!! Just let me know if you need some kind of help or something and I'll decompile your map and record a video showing how to fix stuff like that in hammer and send it to you... And I'm saying this without any arrogant attitude, please don't get me wrong, mate.

I'm telling you these above few objections because I REALLY think this is a MASTERPIECE and I would like it to remain perfect at the forum. Now it's up to you!

My congratulations! Will keep an eye on your future releases!

Ohhh.... and:

PLEASE! DO NOT DO THAT! The look you gave to the map is very very good and neat, and those white tiles on the walls give the perfect mood to the chambers! As you say everyone knows those tiles are not enough to place a portal! ...please don't break the aesthetics you applied to your map!

I am finding it nearly impossible from the 1 dot room to line up the laser to hit the 3 dot room laser catcher.

You have to set the cube on the light bridge in the Dot 1 room and aim it. Then when you walk across, go through fizzler, light bridge is removed, cube drops and always moves a bit as it drops to the floor and the aim is then messed up. With the catcher facing the right the margin for error is razor thin. Would help if catcher was on back wall - not on the side facing right.

thank u guys.. it makes me happy that u enjoy the map. I really appreciate ur criticism it helps alot improving myself as a mapper. I love the interacting and collaborating in this forum. its keeping the forum and the game alive.

@Jacu: thank u dude and thanks for the first

@a2912871: thanks sir. really enjoyed watching ur video. im always impressed that people always find other solutions even if i played this for many hours looking for other ways of solving it. ill fix the last fizzler so getting the cube behind it will be a little bit harder. ill upload my solution after my next upload. ull see that theres an easier solution to get on the bridge. thats what i like about puzzles. if u mix easy stuff with complicated things people start thinking so complicated and plan things in advance that they wont see the easier way.

@josepezdj: thank u for ur detailed comments. when i first saw ur screenshot i had to laugh. these f**** lights made me crazy. every god damn time i added one of those i had about 5 leaks.arrrrr
and i took me so long to find out how this cutting tool works. who the hell knows that u can click it multiple times.. it was always deleting one part of a brush. as u can imagine im still lerning and went through tons of good and bad tutorials. this was actually my first map... and i really mean first map. i started with one room and one door and added more and more stuff. so the basic foundation is pretty bad and definitely need a complete rework. now im aware of the mapping basics and already started a new project where i wont be this messy again. im grateful that u offer ur help ill contact u via pm.

@lifeson99: actually ur not supposed to aling the laser like this. i tried this myself but i thought the fizzler is blocking the catcher. i will change the setup a little bit so its not missleading the player anymore. thank u for ur comment.

@pcdoc & ahackerjack: im happy i could help u improving ur skills

There are a couple of movements really awesome in there that I NEVER tried or watched before! So you're also an evil player! apart from an evil puzzle-maker.

I liked the way you reached the bridge in a first moment with that "left-right" tricky movement!

Also I liked how you reached the bridge jumping from the top of the cube grabbing the cube in the air after jumping!

Again: impressive map! Waiting for the next one!

I also made that jump from the top of the cube once but I got stuck somewhere else and I totally forgot I could use it to get on the bridge more easily instead of jumping and doing the left right thing... jumping backwards and grabbing the cube was very cool, never thought of that!

Awesome map that took me a long time and was a lot of fun. Easy 5/5.

I am not sure if this has been posted before or not, but after having watched the intended solution, I found that I switched off the final fizzler in a different way: Walk backwards onto the jumppad holding the cube. When landing press w and lose exactly enough momentum to come to rest within the fizzler with the cube still unharmed. Throw the cube onto the jumppad and walk backwards to turn off the fizzler just in time before the cube passes it.

This map must be Jonatan and Chander's evil love child. It's got Jonatan's devious puzzle design, combined with Chander's dirty tricks.

Since I don't play with a mouse, I knew from the very first jump that there were parts of this map I just couldn't do. I tried every maneuver 20 times, then noclipped. I noclipped a lot. Now you, Jonatan, and grayarea can split the cost of my new F7 key.

It's a shame, really, that such a wonderful puzzle is buried in insane gymnastics. This map won't be playable by very many people, I'm afraid. Of course, they can noclip as much as I did, but I think many will just rage quit. I almost did myself, when having gotten two cubes in the final room, the third cube dropped at the edge of the portal, and I was stuck.

I've played all of Jonatan's maps (except Enigma) many times, most of Chander's several times, and even grayarea's at least a handful, but I won't be playing this again. Let the fast-twitch kiddies have their fun; I'm going home. 4/5 from me.

  1. The strafe-jump to the bridge took me at least 50 tries before I hit it once, but now I can hit it once in about 20.
  2. Shooting the bridge under me to get to 2 dots wasn't nearly as bad, but ...
  3. coming out of 2 dots was really iffy. The biggest problem I had wasn't hitting the portals, but the laser hitting me as the cube dropped.
  4. You taught me a new trick, jumping off and grabbing a cube.
  5. I borked 3 dots a lot, because the portal was a tiny target.
  6. Getting the first cube to the exit was mostly a timing issue, not really difficult.
  7. Getting the dirty cube back was a problem again because it landed just beyond the edge of the portal. (a physics_clip there might help)

thank u guys for your feedback!
@kennkong: im happy that u like the puzzle. as i said in the description this map isnt easy to solve with a controller. this is my first map and i think ill have to rework some parts. im currently working on a new project but if i find the time ill change the things u mentioned to make it playable for everyone. i was a passionate kreedz player back in the good old cs 1.6 times. i remember me cursing because some maps were to hard or had bugs and i fell off and had to restart from the beginning because there were no checkpoints. but i liked the physical competition in egoshooters and i think its in the bag.

@jacu: thanks again mate for your video. it really seems i have to rework some parts because every time i change some issues it opens new possibilities to solve.

anyways thanks guys ill upload a new and better version as soon as i can.

Well, for a first map this is very good! But...

It's a shame, really, that such a wonderful puzzle is buried in insane gymnastics. This map won't be playable by very many people, I'm afraid. Of course, they can noclip as much as I did, but I think many will just rage quit.

I did figure out how to solve it, but in some places I used noclip to bypass some difficult moves. (Especially in the end, where it was more like trial-and-error, because the respawned cubes would often miss the jump pad and not get launched.) It is more Nintendo hard than Portal hard, and that's just not my cup of tea.

However, from a design and build quality perspective it is a very good start. You just need to pay a little more attention to aligning textures and props correctly. I also think you should keep the white lines; it's obvious that these can't hold portals and they give the map a unique visual style.

Very good map, I enjoy it a lot. It was very stressful at the beginning ad I've loved that feeling. Thank you.

I just wanted to second this motion. Your map is the very first custom map I tried to play, with a gamepad nonetheless. So yeah, I had it coming. But your design is amazing and watching your solution video really, really made me want to play it. I love the complicated maps with really clever puzzle design which stretch my brain to the snapping point, and this map has it in spades, but the frustration of dying hundreds of times due to not making a jump is just too much for me. If you could bring yourself to update a version for those of us who are not acrobatic shooting ninjas, I'm sure you would have many eager takers.

Congratulations Markiu your first release is like Jonatans Quadro just brilliant and I expect great maps from you in the future. I finally had the time to work on this and oh boy that was really hard and took me a lot of time (6 hours). Initially Ive played older version (1.6) and then focused on newest one. Below my impressions:
- new version is much harder and cancels several alternative solutions (two fizzlers above made a huge difference)
- retriving the first cube is just frustrating. Ive tried hundred of times and accidentally manage to do it as I knew there was no other option. Afterwards Ive read about left-right trick which is in my view a fult in mechanics then anything else. That was definitely the weakest point of the whole map.
- the rest as for puzzles is AWESOME. I retrieved the second cube in completely different way not seeing through fizzler put the cube inside the laser grid turned back, shot the portal inside from the top, that way I didnt have to do the tricky manouvers||. Ive done the next setup in ver. 1.5 also in a different way but it was to no avail in 1.8 so that version minimizes the possible solutions
- as for the final fizzler in 1.5 I was able to ||grab the cube through the fizzler and release it moving backwards
as this is not possibility in 1.8. In last version however I stack two cubes with slight slanting then go upstairs and press the button before one cube collapses. After I saw the solution I found it more of a luck then solid solution. Ive even came across the intended one but I didnt think out how to enable two catapults
- your solution video is great last part and cube grab with jump backwards is nothing short of amazing
All in all an easy 5/5. This is really map to remember though its merit is diminished by hard execution. Being so impressed by this release I`ll try your next maps. Please continue mapping !

Thanks for feedback macko68!
I'm happy that you liked my puzzle.
This was my first map and I've learned a lot in the last months. Sadly I wasn't able to turn this puzzle into a clean and easily solvable map. As you can see it needed eight updates and it's still open for unintended solutions. Maybe if i got time I'll make a complete rework so it will be more stable.
The feedback by this awesome community helped me improving my skills and I'm sure my future maps will be better arranged and more fun to solve. They might lack in difficulty but it's not my intention to make super hardcore difficult maps that can only be solved by 1% of the community.
I want to create clean and logical puzzles that offer a challenge for everyone and I think I'm on the right track. I hope you'll check out my future releases and give me more feedback.
Cheers

Really hard map so far, loving it. Perhaps you could warn people that they need to master a certain wigglebutt technique to get past the first puzzle (dont know the actual name).

Really awesome map ! The usage of the black floor texture on the walls gives an unique style to the map. I like it
A little tip : you can enhance the laser emmiter's looking by craving the brush on which they are, and texturing the inside with a black texture
