Nice map, just finished it. With careful planning i wouldn't say i found it that hard. At first it got me a bit frustrated cause i didn't even notice there is a second laser cube that you can get using the laser. Btw, it's possible too with just one cube, but you have to be really quick, to spin and shoot a portal before the fizzler re-appears.
At the part where you get the second laser cube, i found weird that what looks like a wall from one side becomes a fizzler looking it from behind, so you can get out. It would feel much better if this wall was auto-opening/closing when you just reach it from behind.
Oh, and one last thing, not sure if its about your map or the game just glitched. When i tried to pass a cube through a portal, the cube started shaking a bit and just vanished, not fizzled or anything. The portal was placed at the first white wall you see after opening the door with the four laser catchers.
Except these issues, i found it quite enjoyable. Thanks for making it.
1 i know you can do that with quick timing, but i thought i would leave that in place... might change it however to stop this from happening...
#2 the wall you mention was a put in after i realised you Could get trapped.. should have made it better in the first place, but i guess wanting to release the map to see how people find it made me just quickly bodge it...
#3 - i dont think thats a glitch with the map? Im not even sure how its happened.. ive just spent the last 5 minuites trying to re-create and failing... :/
I solved it using both laser cubes. I dont think I opened the final door to the exit elevator as intended though.I grabbed the cube from the previous holder and got it through the door before it closed and used it to open the last door.
Edit: I went back and did the last part without losing my portals and didnt have to steal the cube to get to the exit.
Yeah, about #3, it was probably Portal2 going wild. Couldn't recreate it myself neither.
About #1, i don't mind "alternative solutions" as long as they don't have to do with glitches or huge shortcuts. It's not that bad here at all, so keeping it in wouldn't hurt.

"Yes, you 'solved' it, but I'm wondering if there are a number of ways to solve them and you're picking all the worst ways." - Wheatly....
need to do some modifications it seems... lol
Well let me start off by saying that I really enjoyed this. It flowed smoothly, but there was alot of work to do to get to the solution. Map looks great, puzzles were thought provoking - normally I don't like laser puzzles, but I did enjoy this. Wheatly humor was a plus. The only beef I have is at the end: I really had no idea I would need both cubes to get the doors open - ok my mistake - but that should have been clearer. Your hard work did pay off - 5/5. Thanks for making!
just updated it, hopefully its not tooooo hard now.
Updated to v1.0.1
- Installed a new wall to hopefully make getting first cube harder
- installed some new shiny hinters, to say where to get cubes from
- cut the timer from 2 seconds to 1.6 seconds, hopefully stopping using just 1 cube to get the exit door opened
- removed glitch where you could cheat having just one cube to get all the way to exit
- added new part to get second cube, increasing difficulty of getting this cube by a fair amount. Was origonal idea on how to get the cube before i realised that you could cheat my method and get around it easier.... now.. back to my method and my method only >:)
Thanks for the response,
OnePortalizedGal
Hey, the 2 cubes for the end is suppose to be a fun way to make the player have to rethink their strategy.. thinking that only 1 extra door is what is needed to get to the end. as to the smoothness of the map, i intended one room to have to flow to the other, while making you use everything at your disposal to complete the map.
Ive increased the difficulty since you play tested this, which may bring more frustration into the game. however all the update is, is increased difficulty on getting first cube, and second cube. Third remains the same as it is not that obvious on how to get it in the first place.
Cheers for the feedback, and it is appreciated
Note: I do not want this to be so hard that noone can complete it. hence i used hinters in the map to show certain placements... however, if my latest modifications have made the map too hard, i may cut back on them.
I like the balanced difficulty level, it flowed well. It seems like there were multiple ways to do some of the smaller steps, but nothing huge was skipped easily, so a little freedom was nice.
Aesthetics could have been more detailed. Did you build cubemaps? The faithplate and "elevator" seemed to be lacking them. Oh, and you could shove objects down through the space below the faithplate.
One bit I didn't like was the touchy angles for getting the 2nd laser cube. After tweaking it to open the door I discovered it wasn't going to hit the receiver through the fizzler, and had to go back again until I got it just right.
I too was a bit confused by the one-way fizzler. It seems like it could just be a normal fizzler, or put it slightly high so you can't go in but can get out.
Overall it was enjoyable.
Ohh, you just updated it, now I have to play it again.
What can I say, awesome map Silic!
I solved the map just like benvent did, by aiming a cube at the last catcher while strolling through the door. The last part was evil!
Still, I liked so many concepts in this map, like having to sacrifice one cube and call it back later to get the first redirection cube.
I don't usually download completely clean test chambers (prejudice mostly) but I'm really glad I downloaded this one. Keep 'em coming!
That was awesome - I really enjoyed this map.
The whole thing was challenging and entertaining. The custom Exit capsule was very cool.
How in the world soad667 did it with just one cube I'll never know.
It took me quite a while to find the Laser. In fact, I saw laser catcher's everywhere but no laser - that was a bit of a mystery. You did a fantastic job on this map.
Here is a video of the last part :

That was definitely a mind bender. Puzzles are complicated in their own, and the end bit is a good "not just yet" moment for the player. Well done.
Wow, this map is awesome! My blindrun (which I'll upload in a few days) took me more than 23 minutes. This map is interesting, kinda challenging and containing some fuck-you-moments. This is the way I like it!
However, I probably did not use the intended solution at all as I never needed to reverse the funnel for example. But you can validate the intention-ess of my run when it's uploaded. I hope I didn't use too much of the intended solution because everyone knows I tend to use unintended ways
It also smells a little like community roundup in here.
Too punishing if you make a mistake. i had to quicksave every step.
Clever puzzle though.

I just played with the latest modifications, and I didn't find it too hard. I enjoyed it quite a bit. The only frustrating part for me was getting the two cubes to fit into one portal at just the right angle without them bumping into each other.
I think I solved it the intended way but I also never needed to use the reversed funnel.
Thanks for all the positive feedback!
its nice to see people are enjoying the map.
also, no I havent built cubemaps (im lazy, and tbh i need to optimize the map too...) will update it at the weekend.. as to the catapult, i need to update the graphics on this slightly, which will include the clipping, and box stopping which i actually have the wall for already in the map.. its just up on the roof... -.- yay for quick mapping near the end cause i really wanted to release it...

Thats the way i designed the level.. i wanted it challenging to the player, however not so much as to make everyone hate it.. also giving more choices on how to solve one puzzle makes the puzzle easier to solve. so its a fine balance that i need to take onboard.. i may change the puzzle around a little to make it harder and re-release this map with the harder level as an addon.
As to the latest update.. i watched my friend play my map last night, and omg i feel dumb on the way he was getting around some puzzles which i wanted the intended route to be hard, but was made stupidly easy... lol
Good map. Not too easy, not too hard; you have to think a bit, but not too much. I liked it. More of these maps, please.
Certainly interesting and well-thought, but too complicated take cubes and too easy to destroy due
of little room to move.
It would be better if there was a vat of acid by suicide and start over from the last valid position.
However, bravo! Beautiful map
I recorded my run, take some notes silic.
Your map was cool, interesting puzzles and not too hard. I played the first version and got a bit confused with the laser thing with just one cube. I even managed to do it but it took many many tries as it was way too hard and not fun at all so I had to look for another cube somewhere else... I'm glad you fixed it so other people will know for sure they will need another cube. Wheatley lines were fun too, nice touch there!

Its funny.. the way you went about doing that level has made me think of the mistakes i made, and how to improve the previous level to make it harder >:3
Thanks for the tips
oh man... nice map!
took me about ~25 minutes to solve it.
And yeah, the last part, when you think it's over... really? naaaaahhhh
awesome moment!
I had a lot of fun with this map, and it really deserves 5/5 stars.
- good looking
- well planed puzzles
- very awesome wheatley "jokes"

Maybe you'll find some more moments like this in my blindrun which is finally uploaded

Silic another excellent map after very good last three chambers from your first effort. Well designed with balanced level of difficulty provides enjoyable gameplay. Some interesting ideas and memorable ending (for this alone would give you 5:). I think your mapping might be perceived as a bridge between easy and difficult maps. I really like the way you are evolving. I think that in near future we can expect really great things from you. Waiting eagerly for your next release. Thaaanks !
Thanks man, really enjoyed that map. There were a few ways to get things done, but it still had me scratching my head long enough to be fun without infuriating!
Few things:
At the cube step part, i'm not sure if you're meant to use the funnel, place 2 portals quickly before you land from the faith plate or just chuck the cube over. It all works I guess!
Oh, and at the laser recepticle bit, if you place a cube near the fizzler, facing back at the first receptacle, then stand inside the 'v' shape (that the laser now makes), you can spin fast enough to disable the fizzler
What's the orange funnel for?
At the second last door I threw my cube through, and got stuck, but it was fun enough to have another go
5/5!
After spending days struggling through grayarea's and Jonatan's recent creations, I was better prepared for this one. I was able to pull this off without any ninja moves, which is good because I'm more of a boxer: just keep pounding away until the final bell. The puzzles kept me busy for 45 minutes, most of that at the exit. I was stuck for quite a while until I decided to be brave and try snatching the cube through the door.
One oddity that didn't affect the solution was that one of the laser cubes wasn't solid. I could walk right through it. It may have just been a glitch, I'll play it again tomorrow and see.
Overall, the looks were acceptable, if bland, and the puzzles were moderately challenging, with multiple ways to solve some of them. Good job! I am going to dock you one point for making me handle cubes in tight spaces with lasers. Seriously, folks, what's the deal with putting lasers right next to walls? 4/5 from me.
Great map! I started absolutely stumped by all the fizzlers, wondering where the hell to start, before making progress step by step, rewarded by new Wheatley lines.
A negative aspect is that you have to quicksave a lot if you don't want to start all over after accidently ramming a cube into the fizzlers in this rather narrow map.
The first exit door was too hard for me though. I'd never thought that two cubes would fit next too each other. Instead I was trying to stack both cubes up - but of course they collided out of the fling every time.
Great map yet again silic! Do you have an intended solution somewhere? I felt it was just a bit on the easy side and it may be due to my "picking all the worst solutions" too. I never needed the reverse funnel, for example.
Ive been fairly busy in life at the mo, plus with my recent failure (which ohh you guys are going to be happy with the rectification) I completely forgot about the update i was suppose to release for this map!
The update includes a harder second version of the map, taking away some of the unintended solutions and forcing the player to do some more interesting solutions.
Now to Questons / comments:

I have learnt to play the game without using quick saves. All my solutions are designed to be tricky to carry out, however not impossible.. impatience in a hinderance on this map. Sometimes repeating the same step 2 or 3 times to get the solution is not a bad thing to do Take the small cramped laser room, ive since learned you can do it in 1 hit, however my origonal idea was to make the player have to repeat themselves 2 or 3 times to get the cube out of the room, progressing the cube further towards the door (hence the portal out).. however, i ended up making it possible to do it in less steps if you like using quick saves or the like

I do ruien, however i am not releasing the solution just yet, as the harder version as such is technically using some of the intended solutions (which i dont want to give out just yet)
cheers for your support though on this map! Much appreciated
Current release : V2.0
Please mention any issues which are with any of the maps, as sometimes glitches or bugs can make their way thorough my relatively high standard filter....
I found the hard version of ver. 2.0 to be only slightly more difficult. Perhaps because I just replayed the earlier version yesterday, and the solution was fresh in my mind, and I assumed the basic steps were the same, it was just a matter of executing those steps in a different manner. Still, a great map, but not for the faint of heart.

Let me just say that this is one of my favorite maps ever. Normally I prefer big wide open maps with lots of flinging, and I don't usually like laser puzzles, but Yourchoice is a welcome exception on all fronts. For my taste, the difficulty is just right. Always thought provoking, but never frustration to the level of ragequitting. I just played the hard version and it was a nice way to mix things up. An easy 5/5.
Note that I had the same problem as KennKong. I thought it might be a way to limit your ability in some way, but the second laser cube was normal. I think it must be a bug or glitch.

Thank you for your kind words
I enjoy seeing people enjoying the map I've made.
As to this glitch, I have checked everything on the map, and I dont see why this is happening.. Luckily for this map at least you dont have to jump on a redirection cube to get to places, but it is weird this is happening... I have the same issue by the way, so i know what your dealing with.
Okay this was good fun. This map made me think that in truth, I'm useless at solving puzzles! It took me ages to figure out what I was suppose to be doing. The laser bit was an awesome AHA! moment for me though. Great map. Loved the little ending area...looking forward to more...

The above link is the intended solution to both levels (the harder level only decreases some of the commonly used methods of completion, which makes the player have to rethink their strategy)
This method can be applied to both levels, taking out a few steps for the easier version.
Hope you enjoyed this map! And im looking to create some more very soon!
Hmmmm... Your "intended" version seems way to complicated, as the few people in the previous posts mentioned, the reverse funnel is unnecessary. I'm also genuinely surprised that I haven't thought to use the funnel to get to the button where you need to place cube to activate lasers. I used the other cube to climb on top of it. I also did not use the vertical funnel to hop onto the horizontal ones (around 6:22). Instead, (and this is gonna sound weird) I managed to create a portal that did not transmit the funnel - is it a glitch? - and thanks to that I moved to the wall covering the button, then I hopped into the new funnels.
It is funny to see how different people think, though
That was a very enjoyable, entertaining, and, as the discussion shows, very non-linear map. I'd like to play more of your maps!
great map. the final part is unique... i thought i had to switch the lazer quickly, but i wasnt quick enough, got frustrated and searched for the solution. it turned out to be different. i didnt realize i should put portals on the blue/orange dots there.? anyways, great job! im gonna try ver.2 now
When i first played it i got so frustrated
But after working out a few things i got there in the end
Thanks for creating the map
