Description

My second finished map, yeah. Tricky and maybe hard. I made it in style of my previous map, but I tried to make it less hard. Don't forget to save every stage you clear or you'll get angry! Also portal placement requires a fine-tuning.

Is that all you have to say?

I have no idea if this map is supposed to be really hard, but I really didn't enjoy this. The map is too clustered. Things that would work great in theory doesn't work because of the map design.

ISSUES IN MY OPINION
- The first infinite fall fling is hard to pull off since you can only see the other surface for a fifth of a second
- It's almost impossible to get the reflection cube to stay on the light bridge when you're supposed to drop down, plus it's very hard to pull of that shot when falling
- I found the angle where I would get the laser to the catcher by pure luck when I randomly fired portals on every conceivable surface
- Even with the cube at it's right place on the light-bridge it's hard to pull off the jump to the next room
- You can get stuck in the last area with the turrets way to easily
- The fact that you needed the cubes later in the room made me even more frustrated
- Same texture everywhere and small errors with textures (look in the pool before the turrets)
- No autosaves!?

Logic, would you spoil the laser angle for me please, maybe via PM? The only thing that makes sense to me would be to use the portals to place the lightbridge the way you have to to catch the cube. I then tried to make the laser "cross" through the portals, but no matter what I try I end up a few inches away from the laser receiver.

I'll upload an image of it and PM you

I warn you though. It's stupid as hell...

EDIT: I've sent it

Thanks. And: Uh, what the hell, why didn't I see that surface? Note to self: Always look around corners...

Right here
- The first infinite fall fling is hard to pull off since you can only see the other surface for a fifth of a second
-- You don't need an infinite fall fling, just made second portal on the floor when you take off the ceiling portal.
- It's almost impossible to get the reflection cube to stay on the light bridge when you're supposed to drop down, plus it's very hard to pull of that shot when falling
-- I'll made an autosave right before this place.
- I found the angle where I would get the laser to the catcher by pure luck when I randomly fired portals on every conceivable surface
-- I've just tried to make map more complicated/interesting (portal placement is uber-important in my maps).
- Even with the cube at it's right place on the light-bridge it's hard to pull off the jump to the next room
-- Ditto.
- You can get stuck in the last area with the turrets way to easily
-- Push out all the turrets with a cube on the one side, while walking under the opposite.
- The fact that you needed the cubes later in the room made me even more frustrated
-- I will add more informational signs for notifying about this.
- Same texture everywhere and small errors with textures (look in the pool before the turrets)
-- Oh, that's my visual design. Errors will be fixed (if i'll find them).
- No autosaves!?
-- There will be some.

Same thing happened to me when i've player early version of map after 2-month-or-so-break, so that will probably changed too.

Normally I'm not a fan of twitchy reaction style maps, but this one was actually pretty good fun ^^
Unless I missed something super obvious, the end half was a little trivial compared to the start but my only real issue is that it was a little cramped to be playing with lasers.
Looking forward to more, thanks!

Lol, not your day with lasers Zivi? I didn't see that for like 20 mins either >.<

It's not what I meant...

- Take out the turrets with the cube
- Fizzle the cube and walk through the discouragment field (removing both of your portals)
- You're stuck!

There are no canon fizzler, which will not destroy stuff but still remove portals, so I made that empty space between ceiling and fizzler. Anyway, DON'T FIZZLE THE CUBE! Maybe I'll add some cube droppers there.

Knot the turrets together with your hair, and make a rope bridge.

You can make a fizzler that doesn't erase physics objects by simply unchecking it in the Flags for the fizzler.

You can't just tell people not to fizzle the cube... -.-

There is no canon fizzler, as I said. It will be misunderstanded, if I do so (even if I'll make it green or something).

Pretty good map. Took about 20 minutes to solve on first run

Why don't just remove the fizzler?

I think it's to avoid bringing the bridge accross or having a seconr laser source. It's actually possible to jump back over the acid with a strafe jump, so an easier solution might be just to add a little ledge to jump back over. You'd have to repeat the puzzle, but wouldn't be stuck.

So the idea is to have the normal cube on the extended lightbridge and pull off a somehow higher jump to get to the next room? Because I don't see how to do that. Is it some strafe/crouch-combination?

You have to have the portal on the absolute highest position and jump crouch to even have the chance to get up. Or you can do as sicklebrick did and rotate the cube a bit, but that's not the way you should have to solve puzzles in my opinion...

I was just rendering my solution video when I decided to read through these forum posts and sicklebrick beat me again. As my solution is the same as his I don't feel like finishing the upload.

Map was decent. First of all, I wouldn't call it a hard map. I think it's pretty average difficulty. Making an infinite fall with only 0.5 sec time to shoot or cube drop of pure luck doesn't make it hard in a good way. Turret hallway felt really pointless and some of the cube jumps were little too close to impossible. Laser angles didn't bother me as much as some people. I didn't personally mind the textures that much even though there could be more diversity in my opinion

Not horrible but I won't rate it over 3/5

Don't know why all of you made it so hard to yourself with the infinifling.
=>
I startet the infinifling in the flingroom.
When shot a second Portal in the same room on the Bottom.
Than crashed to the ceiling and ping ponged relativly slowly until i hit the Portalsurface in the cubedropper-rooms

Btw. Do not look up left before the end-elevator! There's a missing texture

The light bridge cube jump isn't hard actually. The key is to have the exit portal for the bridge as high as possible and the entry portal as low as possible, then it's a normal jump. More finicky than I'd like, but it's still legitimate.

The fizzler wasn't that annoying though, but I didn't immediately realize I'd need the laser cube too. I think it's fine though, it adds a slight edge in how to move past it with cubes. There should be a easy way to get back over (though at that point you're essentially redoing the entire puzzle).

The only thing that truly annoyed me was getting the laser cube. This was due to me thinking I had to drop down and get back into the room, then fire the bridge out. This turned into an unpleasant 'lucky physics' puzzle.

I was commenting on how the puzzle was intended to be solved. I tried your way and it is little bit easier than the intended way but the way sicklebrick does it in his video is the way I did it. That makes the roof completely useless.

Heh, the fling probably would have been easier from the fling room in most cases, but here, if your ass is against the wall and you fire off a portal directly underneath yourself, you'll be standing upright in the portal ready to jump (without any intervention). Was just a little more time to aim while Fraps was monopolising my precious frames

Hahah, I feel like a donkey now.. so many bits I could've done easier...
Walking forwards off the bridge, realising that the surface at the side of the light bridge isn't 2 separate panels, crouch jumping up to the 2nd area... Nice background whompwhomp too

Hm, tricky!^^ I've solved the map, but i need 2 tries for the last area (load an old state).

In my first try, i stuck in the end area behind the fizzler without the laser cube and i have to load a old save-state to try it again.. Is there a way to go back to the lightbridge room without the old portals?

Oh, and my start-elevator stuck.. i have to noclip out of it to play the map..

I enjoyed this map with the exception of the lack of game saves. I did finally get myself in the habit of saving the game. Like several others, I did not use the infinite fall and instead just portaled over to the second room. This map did force me to improve the skill I lack at the most, cube tossing. Thanks for creating.

First of really nice little map, enjoyed everything but the turret gauntlet part, I was just flailing around throwing turrets and cubes all over the place and couldn't really see the point of it. Also I didn't use the infinite loop area in the beginning, I'll just do a solution video to show. Anyways great map, not extremely hard but that's just a good thing in my opinion, nothing excessive

EDIT:
Okay so this is my second playthrough right here, but I played so poorly in the end I kinda ragequitted... but I think I did that the right way around anyways.

AArgh what is with these incredibly hard maps....? After many reloads, I managed to catch the first cube drop - I see why it was important to save.... At that point I lost interest in the map thinking that I was in for more of the same.... I will look at a solution video and maybe return...
thanks for mapping - while hard for me I am sure there a those who are stimulated by this kind of challenge.

I recorded my blind playthrough for you. I edited out the considerable time wasted performing tasks that had nothing to do with solving the puzzle. I have all the same complaints as Logic. The puzzles weren't hard, but the execution was made difficult by poor portal placements and other poor design decisions. 3/5 from me.
