A custom map for portal made by Mapster A custom map made by Mapster which was especially made for Portal. A newer version is in the making.

I was sent a message last night by De-rek which told me about this forum and i decided to post my map around heh.

I am working on the advanced version which requires a LOT more skill... or just time and patience lol.

When i originally started the map.
I was Only going to have everything inside the map, but that changed once i realized it was going to take too long lol.

Ok i've been working on the advanced version of this for a while. it's taking longer than i actually spent on the original map. (more detail and thinking)

I tried making a fan with a light texture behind it... the fan is is basically white which is really annoying... trying to find a good light texture.

Also i need another idea on how you would try to hit this turret. (map organizing ideas not solutions)

Try not to edit your maps to make them harder after people have fun played them i've got a habit of doing that.
People normally flame me for doing it but this time i'm actually trying to remake the whole map with new puzzles, i am quite pleased with 1 of them

This make was great, best one so far.

However, right at the end in the final room, the glass doesn't break with the rocket hits it. It's kind of out of place seeing as all the previous glass panes can be smashed with the rockets.

Is there any point to that final rocket launcher anyway?

At the end where you gotta kill those 2 sentry turrets, thats the end of the map.
There is nothing more except pushing the button and waiting for it to kill you lol.

I'm glad that everyone enjoyed my map, i've gotten so many downloads on half-life 2 files which is awesome.

I'm trying to reedit this and change the puzzles... so far i've done a good job but thinking of hard puzzles is not all whats it's cracked up to be.

sorry for double post

Ok since i released the game i've been working on the advanced versoin of the map which is basically an entire remake of the map.
I decided to record a movie of half of it and upload it to youtube and see if anyone has ideas or anything.

I aimed the map to be much harder which it is, i can't run right through it anymore so it's defiantly much harder now but later on it's a but too easy.

That looks pretty intense.

However, if I were thrown into the map without first seeing the video, I would have no idea what to do.

I think it would be good if there was some direction. Something to tell the player the goal he has to achieve.

The idea is that you have to figure it out by yourself.
The beginning of portal was training, basically the whole game is a "create your own map" game.

Why else would the missions be so small?

Most people that played the map didh't like that they didn't know where to go, so i put up the symbols around the place to indicate where they are.

Mapster... I have to nominate you for the first real 'portal like' map..

This was beyond amazing. I felt like I was playing one of the official maps..

This was done so nicely, no other map before this was designed this well. It was a complex puzzle, but wasnt filled with total frustration. Perfect!

10/10 on everything

=D awesome map i think i took the long way around stuff where u drop in from where the boxxes are originally located i went down there stacked the boxxes and went that way o.o took me a good extra 3-4 minutes trying to stack the boxxes but i got it didnt realize their was robots on the other side =3

Ok since people have been prodding me on You Tube to finish the advanced version of facility i have been working on it more.

I have taken a few pictures of the main area of what i have changed so far.







I've done a lot such as change the boxes in to actual boxes, the buttons into actual buttons and spiced up a few obstacle courses if everyone havn't seen the video i made.

Only 1 problem i have come to is that i want to make a stasis field only block the player, i made a brush with the texture of the combine stasis field which was an illusion and placed a player clip brush infront of it but it seems to block everything.

Excellent map, had all of the elements of portal to it (except fizzlers) and plenty of turrets which i love to kill !!!
I was a bit confused at the end tho when it said i had won an extra map and nothing happened, i assume this was meant as an unlock to the advanced levels?
All in all 10/10
