Description

The second official map I'm releasing to public. After about half a year of on and off work (I'm not bragging, I've just stopped working on this map for long periods of time) I finally finished it. Forcefully actually, compiling took too long so I just brought it to an end. I'll try to make more maps more often if my feedback for this map is good. Anyway, so this map is my attempt to make something as authentic and as possible, while trying to provide thought provoking puzzles that are loyal to the original feel of the game before the BTS's kicked in. I think one of the things you will defiantly notice about this map is that it's dynamic in how you move around and solve puzzles. The goal is always apparent, but the steps in getting to them often overlap each other and cause for a lot of revisiting of different area's. This makes things more interesting rather then saying "Good job, move to the next empty room that you've never seen before." It allows people to keep tabs on their environment, much less... gaze at my hard work. Haha. Questions, Comments, what did you like? What did you hate? I'd love to hear what you have to say! Directions: 1. Unzip BMZ file. 2. Run Portal 3. Click "Bonus Maps" on the titlescreen. 4. Click "Import" 5. Locate the BMZ file. 6. Play the map.

This was far better than first one. every room is linked to other very clever way. I know how hard it is to make medium long, but not too confusing map. I have nothing else bad think to say about this than there was one or more miss-aligned textures in one place.

But anyway, I give 9.5/10, 10/10 in twp rate-system

Generally good, but lighting was pretty bad in some areas (hard to see?), some textures were badly aligned, and portal bumpers were missing in some places.
With that out of the way, the test chambers themselves were pretty well made and fun, although the first fling took me a while to work out where I was supposed to be going.

I encountered some invisible walls, and one part of the chamber where you just encounter a dark corridor where you cant get out. Maybe I did something wrong?

Probably i solved the chamber in a unfair way, i see some unused puzzles:

Haha, yeah... you skipped half the map, even after I thought I fixed that. Great speed run though, I'll be sure to fix that up along with some lighting adjustments before I start working on a new map.

Definitely the invisible walls are annoying. Particularly above the round-the-corner button protected by the backstop-like shield...of course, my first instinct was to go over the top, and I could easily climb up using cubes, , but there was an invisible wall there. If you don't want people to climb, put a visible wall! Similarly, in the room just previous to that (up top of the two buttons), I thought the obvious thing was to climb over the jumbled cubes...but an invisible wall prevented me from doing so. Pile them higher so it's clear there's no way to squeeze through! I agree that a few places were too dim as well.

I'm not done with the map yet -- stuck! -- but this is a quality piece of work, very enjoyable (so far!). Nicely done.

Finished now...great map! Highly recommended. I really liked the way you used space, so that I was always revisiting familiar places from new angles. Very swiss-cheesy. Can't wait to see more from you!

I just added that to the rules, so there's no excuse for not knowing any more.

Has anyone found the cake easteregg yet?
Even if you noclip, I'd just like to know someone found it.

Yes, found the cake. Had to noclip. Is there a way to get there without noclipping? BTW, Hober, sorry about that, won't happen again!

Nah, the only way to get to it is by noclipping. It's somewhat visible from the room though, behind the glass.

Hi,

Can I get some hints for this stage?
I don't know what to do here.

I'm pretty sure that the crack in the glass is to hold the cube through and throw it on the button(just looking at the pic).

Ye thank you!
That is the solution.
Didn't know that it is possible to hold a cube through glas.

This map was pretty awesome. I didn't find the cake yet. Even nocliped, but I'm obviously not looking in the right spot. This was a fairly complex map. I love the ones that make you think.

The cake is inside the observation room that peers into the room with the button suspended over the acid water (the only room in the map with the acid water).

Thanks for the tip. No wonder I didn't find it, it disappears when you are outside the map.

Wow, a great map, had a lot of fun with it. As I read now I have skipped some puzzles too so will have to play again.
Some questions for you:

- Why do we start in front of an elevator and after moving a bit the elevator closes
- No clue how does the second hallway door open
- Missing portal bumpers, vrrr
- What was the purpose of the black hallway behind a fizzler? A trap?

// okay, after the second play I think I skipped the first part by flinging while crouched. If I played the intended way, the black hallway wouldn't be there.

really enjoyed this map! very well made. the only part i was confused with was the part with the round-the-corner button, i ended up piling the cubes to get on top of the slim part with the windows, and then from there i picked up a cube, jumped across the gap to a ledge that shouldn't exist and tossed the cube onto the button. but now i see how its supposed to be done.

I guys, i'm new in here.
I have tried some of the maps, and i have to say that they are more difficult then the original in-game, i'm feeling a bit stupid :/

I have tried the CassataChamber2, and i can even pass the first "jump" LOL i have already see the video, but i can't do it, i never reach the other side :/

When you fly up after doing the fling down, you can either press and move towards the ledge and I've seen people make it with ease. However the method I use is simply to fire the opposing portal on the far wall on that ledge, that way as you come back down and fall back into the portal you initially came out of, the opposite portal is up on the ledge and you'll fling onto the ledge smoothly.

PS: If you're watching the speed run video of my map, please note that his method bypassed most of the map by exploiting the very jump I think you might actually be trying to make. The jump was not intended to be a solution, so naturally it's not going to be easy to do.

See this video for the proper way to complete the map:

I thought the map was excellent, got stuck for a while with the button behind the glass (like everyone else) but got through it eventually. I used the whole map and about 4 million portals, but thoroughly enjoyed it Thanks.

S'agood map, broke it relatively hard. To any map makers still checking this site out: Don't use invisible walls. (In my opinion) It defeats a big part of portals open puzzle solving feeling.
