The beginning with the spotlights was pretty nice. I also liked the idea to turn on the light when dropping out of the funnel. But from then on I didn't really enjoy the map.

Due to the lightning in the room with the turrets I couldn't see the portal surface there. I thought I was trapped down there until I tried the fullbright mode.

The way to the exit door took me a lot of trial and error jumps which became a bit annoying.

The final fling came about a bit random since I already went through the exit door.

But this isn't too bad for a first map and the spotlights in the beginning were cool. 3/5 for me.

moderator note: could you modify the description and remove the smileys please? This causes some errors with the other downloads.

Thanks!

I liked the beggining, a bit dark tough. I would recommend adding some lights with around 5 brightness force at the top of the spotlight.
-The room is too big for a small test.
-The tractor beam is too fast, I could barely press the button.
-Very difficult to reach the door. I tried flinging a lot of times
-The room with the turrets is really dark, try adding a "light_spot" or "light" there. Took me some time to see that the wall down there was portalable.
-This map is barely a puzzle!

I would love to rate the map 5/5 but I can't. I was going to rate it 2/5, but I see it's a WIP so I'll wait the final version and rate it later!

There is a coule of things that really didn't work with this map.

Feedback (SPOILER)
- The map was waaaaay to big for a puzzle this small
- When I fell down the hole I though I was trapped. Don't make black surfaces portaleble!
- No challenge to get behind the turrets
- Hard to reach the door + it had a timer!
- The textures is really plain and repetitive
- No distinct "goal" just a dark hole...

I'll be honest with you. This map wasn't good. Everything was square and there wasn't any challenge to it, besides the annoying door/timer part. This was barely a test, just random objects and elements put in a room.

Thanks guys for letting me know what's going on with my map!
I will try my best to improve my maps and take off the annoying part.
I try my best to make a better map than this one and of course THANK TO ALL OF YOU FOR BEING HONEST AND LETTING ME KNOW WHAT PROBLEMS IT HAD!!!!

Rather than trying to release a map every 1 or 2 weeks I would recommend focusing on one for a while and trying to refine it, even if it's quite a simple puzzle. What I would recommend for this map:

- Make it much, much smaller - it would work just as well at a tenth of the size.
- Create actual sources for your lights - either prop_static models or func_instance observation rooms etc. Floating lights just look weird...
- change the final fling around so that it's actually possible to achieve it without endless repetition trying to get the perfect spot. It's okay to have a puzzle that's difficult to execute because it requires skilful portal placement etc., but when you fail simply because it's really difficult to judge where to shoot it just gets frustrating.
- Experiment with varying textures around and adding props/features to make it look more interesting. Look at some other user maps or the original Valve maps to see how they go about designing chambers.
- Experiment in general! The best way to learn is to keep trying different stuff until something works. To begin with everything seems to take ages, but Hammer is actually quite intuitive and you'll pick it up quickly.

Could you really expect the player to have much fun in this map? It's big, ugly and frustrating - I'd barely call it functional after all.
