Posted by User 1 • 2010-08-20 07:24

Welcome to the Thinking With Portals Forums!

Thank you for visiting the discussion board for Thinking With Portals! We have a few rules here that can make your stay as best as possible.

Signature Rules

Acceptable signature sizes are 500x150 and no bigger than 100k, and/or 150 pixels worth of text (usually 2 or 3 lines). Signature can be no more than 150px high, text and image combined. Your signature will be permanently removed if you violate this rule! This is not rocket surgery, and no we will not increase the limits just because you have some signature that you like. Huge sigs make a forum ugly, people are here to read about our network sites, not look at your 100 different user bars.

Posting / Content Rules

Links to Drugwar/Outwar/Free iPods/etc. - pretty much anything that requires people to click on a link or sign up on your unique page - are not allowed. First offense is a warning, second offense is a ban! Again this doesn't take a genius to figure out, use common sense!

Don't post links to illegal files (warez, torrents, etc.). We aren't a piracy forum, so we won't for stand it. Period. Open discussion of piracy or stealing software can and will result in the thread being trashed and possibly a user ban. Be smart, just don't do it!

Spam / Bots

We have done our best to try and stop spambots, but we're not perfect. If you see a bot thread (links to sex tapes, sex sites, etc), report the thread! Click the Report Post button at the top of the post and an Administrator or Moderator will be notified. Please DO NOT respond to spam threads!

Speaking of Post Report, if you feel someone has violated a forum rule or is being out of line, click the Report Post button and it will be flagged for the Moderators. If you want to send a message to us, you can do so on the report page. Abuse of this feature will get you a Warning! Don't Report a thread just because you don't like the person who posted it, you can and will get yourself banned by doing that.

Speaking of Warnings, we are on a strict "3 strikes you're out" policy here. If you do receive get a Warning, the Moderator who did so will send you a PM of why you got it. Please discuss the matter privately if you feel the Warning was unwarranted. Remember - a smile is cheaper than a bullet!

Using Spoilers

Because Thinking With Portals deals with Portal and Portal 2, and some people may not be as experienced as others, please use the spoiler tags whenever appropriate! This is especially important when talking about the Single Player game, as well as any Custom Maps. Don't ruin the experience for others, use spoiler tags!

Search Feature

Mappers, modelers and other developers - Before asking a question, use the search features first! If it isn't there, look in the Wiki! Most likely, we've already answered your question and someone has posted it somewhere. If you still can't find an answer to you question, then feel free to post it.

If you have any questions about these rules, either contact a Forum Moderator or post a thread in the General Discussion board.

Again, thank you for vising!

Valve to Deliver Blockbuster Sequel With Steamworks Support

June 15, 2010 - Valve, creators of best-selling game franchises and leading technologies, today announced that it will deliver Portal 2 on the PlayStation 3 platform simultaneously with previously announced platforms. The PlayStation 3 version of Portal 2 will be the only console version to include Steamworks.

"When the PlayStation 3 was introduced, I was the one of the platform's biggest critics," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "However, Sony Computer Entertainment has proved that the PlayStation 3 is the most open platform of all the current generation consoles and has worked extremely hard to make the platform the most desirable for consumers and developers. As such, we are delighted to announce Portal 2 for the PlayStation 3 and believe the Steamworks support included will make it the best console version of the game."

Portal 2 is the sequel to the title named "Game of the Year" 2007 by over 30 publications around the world. Portal 2 promises to break new ground in next generation gaming by expanding the award-winning recipe of innovative gameplay, immersive story, and creative inclusion of music while also introducing multiplayer co-op game modes.

On the PlayStation 3 Portal 2 will be supported by Steamworks, a complete suite of game features and services including auto updates, community features, downloadable content, and more. Previously deployed on the PC and the Mac, Valve's Steamworks development platform will make it possible to deliver the higher level of service gamers have come to expect.

"Valve is one of the industry's leading studios and Portal is one of the most innovative properties launched in the past 10 years," said Rob Dyer, senior vice president of publisher relations at Sony Computer Entertainment America. "Valve's decision to bring Portal 2 to the PlayStation 3 with Steamworks support is incredible validation of the power and openness and momentum of PlayStation 3."

Portal 2 is targeted for launch in 2011 on the PlayStation 3, PC, Mac and Xbox 360 platforms.

Download Database Almost Back
Posted by User 1 • 2010-05-07 06:10
Okay so this has taken longer than I'd like. The good news is that I have finally found a Download DB that works (really well too!) and hopefully will not have nearly as many problems as the last one did. I can't tell you the number of times that spammers uploaded mailing scripts. Turns out the old Download DB was a piece of shit. Who knew?

Anyway, right now things are all cluttered to fuck. There are some buttons up top, they don't really do anything right this second. Uploading is disabled for the time being. I am going to get things finished up within the next week or so. Once the new Download DB is up and operational, I will send out a mass announcement letting everyone know the good news. I am going to try and automate importing over the old files, but I do not have very much hope for that. I will, however, manually import over the old files that I think are worth keeping (Community Spotlights and such).

I'll keep you guys posted. I expect the site to be back up to full capacity by the end of the month. Valve has given me a deadline to get this shit done, so I have got to beat them to E3!
