Moving to a new forum
Posted by User 1 • 2009-10-06 02:54

Hey everyone, just wanted to give you all a heads up.

We will be moving to a new forum in the next couple of days. This has honestly been a long time coming, and frankly I'm surprised I haven't done it sooner. I am going to be doing my best to preserve all of the posts and other content here at TWP in moving it over.

That said, everyone needs to expect to have some things getting lost.

  • User pruning. I am going to clean out the closet of old users and/or users who never fully registered in the first place. If you have 0 posts, or you haven't logged in in over a calender year, you might want to think about stopping by or else you might get deleted.- Post attachments won't transfer over I don't think. If you have anything important in an attachment, go to the forums and download it now and re-upload it when we move.- The Download Database is going to be a tricky situation, I still am not sure how I am going to handle that. Rest assured that we're not going to lose all of our uploaded content.- The TWP Wiki. Keep it or leave it? Post and decide.Like all good things in life, the change over is going to come suddenly and without warning or remorse. Don't get deleted, login and post right now!
I Met The Portalgun

So anyone who goes to F7 knows that I got to go to Dragoncon in Atlanta this past weekend. What I didn't expect was to run into the guy who made that orgasmic Portalgun prop from way back earlier in the year, and his finance toting it around in her excellent Aperture test subject costume.

Sadly I only got a couple of photos of it because I was too busy nerding out over props with Volpin (the creator), and I was too much of a wimp to ask to hold it myself. Anyway, here's the couple of photos I took of it.

A-one
A-two

Volpin also wore his Guy Manuel of Daft Punk helmet/costume and probably the most elite Big Daddy from Bioshock costume I've ever seen. Sadly I missed that though, but there's plenty of photos and Youtubes of the spinning drill over on his blog.

How To Build A Portal Gun

So it looks like someone really knows how to hit a right note here, and has posted instructions on how to create a Portal Gun prop using semi-ordinary materials. Judging from the list of materials, this should run you only about $20 if you have some of the pieces laying around the garage.

Totally awesome for a 1 year anniversary Portal Halloween. Kudos!

Happy birthday to the site, ThinkingWithPortals.com turns 1 year old today. I'm really proud at how far the community has come, and I can't wait to see what the future will hold for us here.

If you're new, why don't you take a look at some of the Best Of TWP content from the past year's releases and contests. Let's not forget the upcoming release of Portal: Still Alive as well as Portal: Prelude, and the rumbling rumors of the ThinkingWithPortals Community Project.
