Co-op: Can't move?

I finally got splitscreen co-op working to experiment with a co-op test, and I have a problem--for map purposes Orange and Blue need to start within the map, rather than in a spawn room, so I can't use the spawn instance. I copied out the necessary entities from the hidden visgroup in the spawn room, but still when I launch the map the players are frozen and unable to move.
What is the solution to this problem? It's really annoying, and all the existing threads about it link to each other or post dead links to p2mods.com's wiki.

Copy all the logic from the coop-spawner instance into your map, there's some script in there that you need to be able to move

In a coop session it needs to run a script called the transition_list. See to this post and follow step 3 and 4.
