As far as I'm concerned, the contests here aren't exactly worth it. It seems like the only reason I would participate would be the prizes, which I can't say do it for me. I think I'd get more feedback if I just released the map normally.

Not that the voting system is all that perfected, either. :/

Way to sound like an ass! But the point of the contests belive it or not, is to get your skill up, and you sure aren't a master so....

No, I'm not a master at Portal. But since I've done this before, I know what I want out of a contest. This isn't it.

I have run and participated in mapping contests before also, and I am following the example set by the ones I've been in.

Like I just told taco, if getting feedback is your biggest concern, that's totally cool by me, just don't enter your map in a contest. Contests are closed, and their goal is to win a prize. Neither of those facts are going to change and are not why I started this thread. If you want feedback and praise about your map, you can get that immediately by just releasing it.

Also what the fuck guys, keep this thread on topic or it will be yellow card time.

Yeah, it's the difference between public and private playtesting. Private playtests are allowed. Public playtests are not.

test entries will be allowed to have alpha testers?

gee i'm wondering if it would be fair to have moderators or site administrators participating in site contests hmmmm. well as long as you donate your wins to charity.

mods and admins should participate (I've yet to see what msleeper can do) but should not be eligable to win, becasue giving a prize to your own staff doesn't go down very well with normal users

What's motivating us to not just enter a box room then?

We gotta' be fair.

I think it should be ok for staff to get a prize. After all the winner is chosen by the whole community, not just the staff, so there won't be any bias.

megadude: that is a good point, now you say that it seems much more fair.

Grudge: you wouldn't go making a simple box map now would you?

I am generally too busy with running the site and other things, but depending on the next theme I might enter.

staff participation...

well if the staff is to participate, then i say make a blind system...

mappers can submit, but anonymously.

nobody knows whose maps belong to whom, and therefore there won't be any bias... names are revealed at the end of voting.
