I was worried about the signup feature not working. i just read why. I should have looked a little further before posting. My original question is below if you still want to read it, but I understand now.

Hey guys,
I've recently discovered that TWP is not allowing new users to join. I have a few friends that have been using hammer for a long time and they have been unable to join this site. Is this a known problem? Was this done on purpose to slowly close the site down, is this a random bug that is going to be fixed, or has this been an unknown problem? There are still plenty of new people with a strong desire to map for portal 2 and join mapping communities.

What's the reason? I can't find it anywhere. I honestly had no idea about this until recently, and it's obviously dissapointing because most new posts are made by new users. Is there a chance that registration will be avaliable any time soon?
If not, the plus side is that we're officially a cult. I guess that's a positive? A very visible cult though.

I think it was spambot issues.

Yeah, Spambot issues. Whenever user creation is enabled, spam bots apparently are created immediately and automatically.
