I've got about 1/4 of my island roughed out. But then I got kinda bored and wanted to make a jump. With the humvee, I can land right in the bullseye and actually survive!

(scale note : those trees at the bottom of the jump are probably a good 20-30ft tall in game)

How does the cryengine work out what to render? because from everything I've seen of crysis maps the game would have to render 100% of the map at all times (if it were done in source)

It's got a really good LOD system. All the trees that you can in the screenshot are actually just sprites from this distance. You can see in the upper right corner there's only about 428k tris being rendered, but if I were to go down to the ground, I'd see less of the map, but my tris would be around the same amount.
on the other side of the mountain, you can see a grey road, and then a brown kinda road thing leading off it, I've got that whole side pretty much done, full forest, buildings, lotsa detail.

As for video, what do people use these days? is it still FRAPs? my last copy of FRAPs caused many problems...

Teh CryEngine editor is awesome in the pants!

Currently I'm trying to figure out how to make scripted events and how to animate the camera and stuff...I'd like to make some videos instead of just the screenshots I've been doing.

EASY

Also Youme, the Cryengine Registers everything on screen and in the open environment.

That is why it is so laggy and such a strain on your system, its powerful and crazy

Love being able to say "hey, I want this area to be a dense jungle..." then selecting the right paintbrush, and laying down a thick, detailed forest in one stroke...

Just wish setting up AI to do more than stand there was easier. I dropped some AI in a room of a prefab building, and they couldnt figure out how to get out....

I would love to use the crysis editor but my pc won't run it well enough to enjoy. The painting style of editing is ace. I love CnC3 editing for the same reason but it looks like you can get proper nice results in relatively little time using this one. oh btw how do you make walls and such? Is it brush based?

so you're letting automated tools make your map for you?

I'm not really sure. There's prefab'd buildings already (which is all I've used so far), and then I think you can put in already made walls and pieces of buildings, but I havent gotten too far into that. There are what looks to be brush and vertex editing tools tho...

well, I COULD sit there and place each of the thousands of trees, or I could have it randomly disperse the trees and make a natural-looking forest. After I place them of course, it's really easy to move them around and fine-tune their location.
