TWP Download Database glitches
Posted Jul 21, 2008
Well, some files, when are hosted on TWP server, tell me to wait for the download and that it will start shortly, but, in fact, it never starts. I have to click on the manual download link and the file gets named weirdly, by some hash or what
and today I saw that on the very same page (just before downloading) the heading of the table is "General Error"

thats nothing new. it has to do with files that are larger than 6mb i think. anyway. just click the download link and rename the file to Whatever.zip or something. what i usually do is highlight/copy the name of the file, then click the link, then paste the file name in the little box so that it labels it correctly (as some files are .zip, .rar, .bsp, .bmz, .etc)

I know, I do it exactly as you, but you know, it is not-so-convenient when you are downloading more files from the download database...

i agree, but its one tiny inconvenience, consider all the other conveniences you get here, and i believe you will find you can let it slide.
but really aside from having to click the link there is no inconvenience cuz it will auto assign a file name, which would be ok.

As I understand it, the bug is basically just a flaw in the download plugin for phpBB. And msleeper & krew don't feel like trying to patch their shit. Which, if you've ever read the phpBB source... well, yeah.

Actually it's not my fault at all, blame the slackers at paFileDB for not caring about the bug report I submitted to them. I've thought about either A.) fixing their code which would be a colossial pain in the ass, or B.) writing my own download plugin. I'm really not inclined to do either because I really, really want integration into the forum and as Hober said, the phpBB library is less than friendly.
