I think it's time for me to post an update of my own, since everyone else is doing it.
I plan on putting the map I have been working on and off for a long time into the mod.

This is what it looked like a long time ago.

And here is what it looks like after I edited it a lot.

The platforms and what-have-you look really nice caboose, the fire effect is well done, although it does seem to stray too far from the wall, and your ceiling/wall textures are overly repetitive and kind of take away from it... I mean the walls near the fire just look way too pristine and white, you know? Should have some burn marks and whatever else.

Hey Caboose use larger tiles maybe, that way youll have less but it will take up more space .

jk, I'll look into the particle editor and see if I can just have 1 large fire particle system instead of a lot.

Here is a test of one of the bonus maps in the mod. It is still being worked on. It's pretty much in the pre-beta.

Hey guys, thanks to Pelpix we now know a way to generate the beta look of maps without editing a single texture.

SO HERE IS COMPARISON IN DX9 FOR YOU PEOPLE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT QUALITY.

ORIGINAL RELEASE PORTAL

NOW TO QUOTE PELPIX
PelPix: prepare to have sum orgasms
PelPix: r_shader_srgb -1
PelPix: do it AFTER load
PelPix: and only after load

NOW MAKE IT RESEMBLE BETA - NO TEXTURE EDITING

The little beta look alike map console command isnt going to be used anyways, so no need to worry about that and the original portal story isnt being used either....

Your both being harsh on each other..

I really don't like it anyway. I think it was dark in the beta cause the video was crap not the game. It also has a big fat flaw. It does not reset. On the next map, it makes textures and sprites awful and the lighing will go back to normal. So Remmiz. Don't really take it as a final mark.

Also as for everything else. It is staying. I did not change that much in the mapping part. I just made...

-Cement pilers from Metal (But could be metal with a different reflect rate)

-The fizzlers.. (Look fakes at this point. If you look at it the map fades. If we don't get it into a particle or a texture, we may go back to the given ones.. After all those fizzlers are back when the Portal was going to be in The Black Box..

-Removed the frames from signs.... Does not make a HUGE difference. Does it?

If you are not convince that we are not trying to make the game look bad, heres a video.

I don't see how being anal retentive and a perfectionist is a bad thing in mapping. So thanks. And I'm only harsh on people that deserve it. If you are a good mapper, you'll get praise from me but if you try to take shortcuts, skimp on details, don't have patience or post like it's going out of style, you'll get the other end of the stick from me.

And also regarding my advice; when you offer advice, isn't it how you think it should be? I just don't choose to sit back and say "good map!" on things that are clearly not good. The mapper might actually learn something if I call him/her out on it. And if they intended it to be that way, I sure hope they stand up and say something back because that is much better than simply changing it because I said so.

Thats fine, but dissing everything is just agitating, but constructive criticism is great.
