Project Malcom
just retexture it. we'll be happy
But I can try and do it, the hoverboat texture is really really choppy so Ill have to try and figure out whats the sides of the floater things and then I think Ill make the internal stuff Grey to black with red wires, maybe use the yellow type of wires from GlaDOS, well see.
Next to that, the ASLTA is, of course, a prototype device, meaning that it not necesarily has to have a complete hull. Maybe parts were removed to repair certain other parts, and not placed back later...
I'm not spoiling too much about the map, am I?
Don't worry about the quality, I'll get a mark for this from my school (I think I first have to let my teacher play the original Portal, the first few rooms of my map are introduction rooms which repeat the three basics but they can still be tricky if you don't know those techniques), so I have to come up with something decent.
BTW, the Three Basic Portal Techniques, as stated in the test protocols and far as MALCom is concerned, are:
-Box (And other physics objects);
-Fling (And other Portal acrobatics);
-Orb (And other Portal-traversing projectiles).
This is not a relaxation vault:

Wow...
That's fantastic! If you can make it sound more male-like, it would be perfect for MALCom!
Hey, what would you say if I recorded a few more lines of my voice and you edit them?
Concerning the pics, I know they're not very great. I've been trying thousands of styles and setups for the Airboat-maps, and I've only recently found something I liked and really started mapping. Expect more, better pics soon.
Well, that's gonna change.

You've had what it took to handle the Portal Gun. But can you handle the Airboat?
Still WIP, but it won't be long anymore...

wo dude, F-YOU!

have fun rico!
I have been experimenting with... other things. Same context, other enviroments.
Don't be affraid, I will finish it, and it's almost finished. The biggest problem are MALCom's vocals, since I don't have a proper sound editing program.
Another thing you don't need to be affraid of: portals and Airboat will not be mixed, or only on a few very special occasions. It's the reason why nearly the entire outside of the facility is made of metal. So far I've only been using fixed portals, and they didn't give me problems.
Also, the map doesn't have 3D-skyboxes. First of all I've never created them so I don't really know how to do that, and second the fog removes the need of seeing far distance. Third I don't want the player to know how big the facility is... because that's something I havent completely figured out yet as well.
Really, in this state the actual storyline could go any way. I'll wrap up the first test in the near or far future, and see what it goes like from there.
- Project Malcom is now set at around the same time period as Portal 2 (has not been finalized, but will probably be a bit earlier).
- Project Malcom still takes place in the Aperture Science Aquatic Testing Range; however, this is now simply a secondary facility located in or near the Enrichment Center (has not been finalized yet).
- There will be no airboat... For now. I want these maps to be playable for as many people as possible, and I'm afraid the airboat might lock out anyone who hasn't got Half-Life 2. I will have to do some experiments with this and figure out what is the best way to go.
As of now I'm focussing on puzzles where you do not have the Portal Gun; instead, you have to manipulate your environment (which will include auto-generated portals) to get to the other side of the test chambers. Logical thinking is the main focus; this means that puzzles like the nine signs and buttons you saw in one of the previous screenshots will be featured freqently, next to the more regular puzzles with orbs, buttons, androids, and slightly more exotic puzzles with elements that have been seen before in custom maps but are not native to the original game (think forcefields with special properties).
I'm trying to give the chambers a look that's slightly different from the original Portal; however, I am not going to try to mimic the look of the Portal 2 screenshots. It will be mostly Portal styled, with a few... Twists.
