The same reason it matters anywhere. The only thing people have to judge you by on a forum is your typing style and the content of your posts. If someone tieps leik dis, I'll most likely think of them as lazy and uneducated. On the other hand, if someone types using proper grammar and spelling, I will be more likely to read what they say in the future and think of them as a smart and decent person. Also, if you can't spend the time to properly type out your message don't expect me to spend the time to read it.
