[RELEASE] Hub
This is my second map for Portal. My first map (Aldz's Test Chamber) was more of an experiment and a product of my struggle to learn Portal mapping. With this map I could finally use all the prefabs I have made and be more creative. It was almost ready for release last year, but another mapping project had to be prioritized
. Now I have improved it further and I believe it is ready for release.
How to install:
1) Extract the bmz file to any folder.
2) Launch Portal.
3) Go to Bonus Maps.
3) Click the button "Import Bonus Maps..."
4) Find the file named "aldez_bonusmaps.bmz" and open it.
How to uninstall:
1) Go to the "...\Steam\steamapp\YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT NAME\portal\portal\maps" folder.
2) Delete the folder named "aldez_bonusmaps".
3) Go to the "...\Steam\steamapp\YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT NAME\portal\portal\maps\graphs" folder.
4) Delete the folder named "aldez_bonusmaps".
5) Go to the "...\Steam\steamapp\YOUR STEAM ACCOUNT NAME\portal\portal\maps\soundcache" folder.
6) Delete the folder named "aldez_bonusmaps".

I already have question from looking at the first screenshot, how did you got the indicator decals to work on the spinning (?) brushes?

The indicator strips are not decals or overlays, they are brushes (the panels are not a single brush). I made a new indicator material (vmt-file), with the same properties as the original, with the exception that this one isn't defined as an overlay. The texture (vtf-file) isn't changed.
Downloading the map.

EDIT:

Maybe I should make a video tutorial or something
Please do!
I haven't fully played through it yet; I got the cube and I am now in the top area of the rotating panel room with the rocket turret, trying to figure out what to do next.
I'll post again when (if) I finish it. (Also if I don't finish it. Then I will probably want some help.
)
SPOILER WARNING! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3dolf89jo7Y
Tip on how to solve the rotating indicator panels:
Note that the indicator strips connects to other strips either to the right, in the middle or to the left. Analyze the patterns from the top and down. Then you'll see that there are only two possible solutions on the fourth level. If you inspect the third level, you'll see that only one of the paths from the fourth level can continue down. Continue in this manner all the way down and you'll find the only complete path.
took a bit of thinking, but wasn't too difficult that i had to cheat in any way

now to work on reducing the number of portals

I'm waiting with great expectation on the one who can beat my record of 31 portals.

i shall give it a go
moving-platform + cube + obstacles is a bit over done, but you did bring in some new puzzles for it.
most things were hard to work out and not very hard to think about, (except for the last part) but still, nice map :O

less may be possible... will have to have another try...
Did you "cheat" or did you do it fairly?
Anyway, the first part was a win, new puzzles got me interested
and I completed it with no problem but kept me thinking (as it should have).I liked your concept of rotating platforms to join the indicator stripes.
I believe I found an easter egg: there is an inscription on the wall in the BTS area which made me laugh
And the G-man in this map reminds me of my map. There are maps coming out today with G-man watching you and it is still good to see this idea alive
