Hold on, I need to get an opinionated post ready to knock someone's taste in music on a site that traffics less than 15 people a week. GOD why doesn't everyone like what I like?

Least portals concept for Chamber 74 (zomg anti-derail):

First section: 2 portals, Optimal would be using my edge glitch and the first box (the one in the sludge) to force yourself through the door. With that method you use two portals in the first area. The most optimal conventional route would be three portals. Two to get the box out from behind the glass (the real box, not the companion cube) and then one more to actually get out of the area.

Second section: 2 portals, normal solve route...might be able to ABH across the gap? (need to test that)

Third section: 3 portals, Two portals to get past the glass (one on the floor, a second wherever), that will get all the companion cubes out into the box area, throw the first 2 over the wall and use the third to item climb up the wall. After you solve the puzzle (stacking the three boxes) is where it becomes really tricky.

You could finish this section (I consider the end of this section to be glitching through the door) with three portals total by using the turret to item climb up to the door, shooting a portal through it, falling, going back outside, then using one of the boxes to item climb back to the portal you originally shot under the glass.

Fourth Section: 2 Portals, Box throw room, two portals to get onto the box platform, and then chuck the box onto the platform.

Fifth Section: 5 Portals(?), Fling room, 2 portals to start the infinite loop, and one more to fling yourself (MIGHT be able to bring this down to 2 portals if you could get the fling to work with 2 portals) then 2 more portals to get through the door. Go through the door (far right, 2 portals) to get into the pit with the box, item climb up to the button, finish chamber.

~14 Portal full chamber solve.

Define what you thought was "cheating" and maybe I'll do one just for you

If it's the first door, just add one portal to the total (and about 50 seconds). If it's the falling door, ask Mek to fix the map shrug. Beyond thous two I really didn't cheat.

Well, I did the failed door by hand, not using a prefab (I didn't know about them yet) so I didn't realise that the model does not block portals, even if it's pretty logical...
However, it would be somehow weird to release a "fixed" map one year after the final release - after everybody has already played it, plus there would be different versions of the map around the net.
So, no, I am not going to fix anything, however, portalling through the door can't be considered a valid solution
But it is a good find. Strange that nobody figured out this flaw yet

Yeah I found that odd, considering I found it on a speed run...just got to the door before it actually opened and went "OoOOoOoO!"

Exactly, no portaling through the door, no portal bumbing through the last door. I define "cheating" as anything that was not intended to be possible based on the physics of the game. Portal bumping and portaling outside the map and so forth are glitches, not legitimate solutions.

Neither is using portals.

Well I actually didn't bump the last door on the least portals run. But I find it interesting that you don't mind item climbing.

So, I see the term "glitch" is synonymous with "cheating" for you =p.

With item climbing: add... 1 portal for the intro. Although I don't feel like spending two or three hours on cube bashing the room that I skipped, you could do it in zero portals.

I just don't feel like thinking about without it shrug. really just means adding a portal every time I used item climbing, since that's really all it does.

I'm with Jr on this. Anything that wasn't intended by the programmers IMO is cheating.

The glitches arn't cheating, it's abusing them to get a better score that is.

To be honest, I can remember one puzzle in my map where item climbing is the rather intended solution

Item climbing isn't an intended solution, but its a means of traveling without using portals. Like I said already, I'm just doing this stuff because it's possible. If you want to do a run that doesn't involve cheats, by all means do it. I'm not gonna say you suck because I have better ones, but I might speculate on how you could improve it.

I understand where you're coming from, I'm not saying that you shouldn't do that, I'm just saying that I wouldn't, I don't consider those types of solutions fun. But you have your way of running a map and I have mine, so to each his/her own.
