You do.
EDIT:
Unless you can access Source SDK without steam.

Steam is free, it's the games you buy that cost money. When you've bought the Orange box, you can use hammer for free as well, as a download from steam.
I've been reading a bit, and although it seems mostly dead around here sometimes, I joined up.
I gots my portal on steam, and beat it a few times. Looking forward to playing some custom maps. I've played a few, and want to do more, but haven't the time right now.
Also, -AFTER- my save files were gone, I realized I never listened to the dev. commentary. So I'm replaying through the game, just for that.
Just thought I'd let you know, I'm the new guy.

Yes. Yes you are.
Evil Giggling
Seeing as msleeper is rebooting TWP (or attracting more traffic
)I thought I'd help. Hey.
Mapping wise, I'm working on a map with turrets (it's fun - honest!), and if you ask me enough, I'll get it done. Also, I liek Portal.
I solve practical problems. Not problems like "what is GLaDOS?" but problems like "How can I keep get my awesome maps to the world?"
Anyhoo, I hope the unfortunate name similarity between this and the official portal 2 site will help stir things up.
Either way, welcome!
Welcome to TWP.
Decided to check out this forum because another Portal mod forum I invesigated wasn't being well managed\moderated. I'm pretty toleratant and easy going, but have normal limits, and that forum was just a tad bit too hostile for my liking. Kind of like going to a bar, and there was always a few regulars hanging out looking to get into a fight for no paricular reason other than to demostrate they were damn good at trash talking.
I am a pretty good Portal player that tinkers around with maps occationally, but nothing too serious.

I'm pretty sure he's talking about portalmaps.net, that forum is completely overrun with spambots.
Which is why I only visited that site once. Also, it has terrible site design.
From a player perspective I'm looking forward to the mapping contest; its bound to result in some cool maps to play. I hope the the judges take into consideration "replay value". The maps\mods I enjoy the most are fun & challenging to play multiple times. Other maps, while technically cool, interesting, and challenging to figure out the first time, the maps lack replayability as part of the core design. Just my individual perspective as an avid Portal player...

Yeah it was myaplabs then. Well as someone said in another thread, we're putting our differences behind us. For mapping.
Very interested in this contest. Bring on October!
better get my thinking cap on.
