Does anybody know, why my overlays are flickering?
Small textures work, but bigger textures flicker.

Hope its just a small thing.

Some textures have settings in their VMT (a file that defines the texture's properties) that allow them to be overlays. Others do not, and the one's that don't will flicker.

And how can I allow the player to shoot portals on an overlay?

If you're trying to make an overlay of, for instance, a concrete wall on a metal wall, then it won't work. I'd recommend just using conversion gel.

If you're referring to overlays in general on concrete walls, then overlays shouldn't prevent portal placement.

A good example of this is near the beginning of the game when you get the un-upgraded Portalgun, and there are the Rattmann paintings that retell the first game. Those are overlays on top of normal concrete textured brushes.

So... if I understood it right, I have to make a new block with the blocktool everytime
I want to create a portal-compatible wall? Mmh thats not very handy is it?...

For example, if I have a room with 4 non-portal walls and i want to have a portal-compatible
-wall in the middle of one of the 4 non-portal walls... How do I do that?

Thx

You have to split up the wall into pieces that surround the portalable wall. You pretty much have to do that for anything but actual overlays and decals, as far as I can tell so far. :/

Use the clip tool.
