If you think about it for a second, it's quite interesting. I actually do get their point, and I see the possibility that the girl heard it and doesn't know how to deal with it. But I think it's more likely that she doesn't give a damn, or didn't even listen to it, cause she was focusing on the game, not the story around it. At least I remember that I didn't pay attention to the story at all in games before I was maybe 14 or 15, also didn't identify with the characters.

But even if this really hurt the kid's feelings and leads to whatever psychological damage, what's the consequence? I guess you can find some offending or insulting stuff in pretty much anything someone says or does, and the proposed label "suitable for everyone except orphans" is just a stupid joke, as that would actually be offending. In general it would mean that a game that's rated E must not contain any sarcasm, and that's b/s.

And this will be Valves last E rated game. Valve made these jokes in Portal 1, and everyone loved them. Also, what about mid way in the game where GLaDOS calls your parents and gets a voice message saying they do not love you? According to the video, they loved the game besides that one part. Orphan jokes are kinda in the story line, and I doubt Valve will change it. Gezz, whats with the press attacking Valve lately? We could not have 'darker skined' zombies, they attacked Valve for a modders doing, and now we can't make fun of orphans.

But what about the fact the game was offensive to morons? Oh wait, it did.

Some people choose to be offended by the slightest things. In Portal 2, the orphan jibes are (as was said earlier in this thread), attacks by the main antagonist of the game. It certainly doesn't send the message that being adopted is wrong, especially since GLaDOS defends Chell on this point when Wheatly brings it up.

Not to mention that dealing with artificial synapsis is expressly forbidden by the Orange Catholic Bible.

That is quite absurd. Firstly it's more balanced than the tiny clip shows (given that GLaDOS suggests about a second before that there's nothing wrong with being adopted), and secondly that it's a throwaway joke setting up the larger point that Wheatley is a moron.

People HAVE the right to be offended. This is the normal way of things.

People, however, DO NOT have the right to force their offense on the people who made them offended! If they're offended, so be it, one more person is offended by a medium that will offend some. It's up to the consumer of the medium to deal with the offense, not the creator of it.

Of course, you can make your offense known to the creator, but that shouldn't change the media that has caused it.

I don't know about you guys but I got really ticked off by that video. Valve isn't being offensive, they are making you realize that Wheatley's a utter moron. I think It's rated E for Everyone because there's no blood, violence, swearing or nudity. Also if they are offended, then don;t play it. if you don;t like it, don't do it......simple.

I had a feeling that Wheatly was getting a little out of hand with the whole adopted thing when I first played the game.

When wheatley is saying that adoption is wrong, its like when Harold Camping telling everyone that judgement day is coming.
