an amazing demo. astounding. best demo I have ever had the fortune to play. hell, to call it a demo is an insult. it is a small game in of itself, if anything!

I was a bit... disappointed for my part? I mean, yes it gave the user a great idea of the narrator-oriented game but I felt like the choices we were given didn't demonstrate the same feeling as the first game (ex: "Wait in the room or go now?" instead of "Left door or right door?"). I'm not saying it was bad but it felt linear, which could be considered bad for a game oriented towards multiple endings and stories.

I can agree. It was linear. the biggest divergent was playing the 8 game loads or not, which only changed 1 line/added many more lines.

But, the fact this much extra content was released at all, and the humour of it, is still above and beyond many games I know of! discounting alpha-access games.

The choices we make mean nothing. The mere choice in itself is only a pretense of choice, the game pretending to consult us when really we are simply following its own ends to discover its predetermined story. We say we choose, but we really press a button, over and over, and sometimes it says "Eight" and sometimes it says "you win."

The demo has simply given up the pretense of choice and instead chosen to deliver a metareferential masterfully delivered joke.

^Exactly what Portal said.

There really are not enough buttons that say "Eight" in the world.

Well I didn't find the joke very entertaining... Even if I enjoyed the "The joke is, there's no demo! So let's have a demo that shows you that there's no place for a demo!" concept, I was disappointed that he didn't exploit it to the max, making it more interesting.

EDIT: TL;DR I don't think that was the best way to approach the game's demo.

How would it have been MORE exploited?

By not releasing a demo at all.

Once again, I didn't like his approach, I'm not saying it was a bad idea.

$11 on launch week...
I feel kind of bad but I don't value it quite that much.
