Time Travel Puzzle Element

What do you people think about a test element that included traveling back and forth through time (or at least the illusion of it) to solve a test chamber? For example, Turrets block the exit with no way to destroy them, the player goes through a "time portal" or "time machine" to when the chamber is under construction and destroys a tube that is about to transport turrets to the chamber. When the player returns to the present-time chamber and the turrets are gone but a different (but not impossible to solve) obstacle appears. Your thoughts?

This is almost like quantum conundrum, stop the bad thing from happening, by activating a dimension.
Anyway, you will need an aperture science time tunneling device or machine.
I've been working on a teleporter (but I'm waiting for a special particle, or ill just make one myself , but can't)

I remember there were at least 2 maps that did a very similar thing back when the Authoring Tools first came out. I can't for the life of me remember their exact names, but there was one (was it Quantum Conundrum mentioned above?) where you stepped into a room, pressed a button, and were taken to either present or future depending on "when" you currently were. Certain areas were only accessible from one or the other, and there were cubes in both places that had to be brought together to a single time to be used.

Well, I know how to make a teleporter. But it depends on circumstance of how the teleporter looks and acts. I've had a few experiments regarding teleporting and succeeded. Keep the ideas coming.

Time Arch was the best i saw and i wish its element was re-used. Another one had a door close in like a tardis style thing and you went to future and back it worked well too.

Well, I have a basic idea of what I'm going to do. However, I want to include different ways to change the past that will affect the present differently, giving the player the option of doing things differently.

What if the player goes to the past and does more than he or she needs?

That would also affect the present, for better or worse.

Really? I think your vision is a little bit on the complex side. I see a map with identical rooms parallel from each other with triggers and object outputs mostly.

Sounds like a great idea. Portal: The Sands Of Time...
Would love to play such a map (and already played the one with world portals mentioned above). Looking forward to your first results...keep it up!

I think you will need a few custom models to make the chambers seem like they're actually under construction.

Maybe, but I want to trying doing things without custom models, textures, etc. so people won't have to download more stuff along with the map. But I won't abandon the idea having custom stuff made.

It sounds like a big undertaking to make, but should be fun to play. You could do all kinds of cool stuff with it.

I have a feeling that its probably going to majorly complex, as there are probably going to be a lot of variables you would need to change. As long as you make it so you can't see yourself walking around, all is simpler.

Take a look at the Showcasing Thread for a 5 picture example of altering the past which affects the present.

Depends how far into the past/future you are as well. If the time difference is too great it would make sense that GLaDOS would reset or fix the chamber.

It's more like the chamber is somewhat near completion in the past. Remember, this chamber intentionally uses time travel. But the consequences for altering the past can be good, bad, or both.
