Would this not be awesomely awesome? I personally think it would make quite the profit; they might have trouble displaying Gordon's character, but it could be interesting. Your thoughts?

Make money - yes
Be a good film - probably not
Dissapoint HL fans - almost certainly
Be true to the games - WTF is continuity

Basicly it would go the same way as all aother game-to-films

They would probably have to make it based around some other character that isnt in any of the games.
Base it on the struggle out of the city during HL2/episode 1 and it might be quite good
Base it on the gap between HL1 and HL2 and it would probably be quite poor and introduce new elements that don't fit with the games well.
Base it before and it would be terrible.

I could go on and on, but the general jist of this is that unless valve work VERY closely with the writers and directors it will be crap.

NO NO NO! NO half-life MOVIE

THAT'S FO SHO!

I was discussing this topic with a friend of mine. We came to the conclusion that much of the players' speculation about Gordon Freeman is a part of Half-life. Making a movie about it would suck because I say so.

I could see a HL movie being made. And youme is absolutly right when it comes to it will be terrible.
But the HL plot is solid, so there is a slim chance they could pull it off.
Their only hope is if the director/producer are HL fans to begin with.

One day, it'll probably happen regardless of what we want. Hollywood is terrible when it comes to origonal ideas. So...

That writers arent crap of course, Valve has Eric Wolpaw and also Marc Laidlaw. So the movie wouldnt suck, however Valve doesn't want to make a movie as the6y have already stated due to not being able to find any worthy film ideas. Nor a good director. So movie? The final say is: No, not in Hell.

Onto another thing, we dont hate you lol. emo kid....

But Valve wouldnt settle for anything that low, so you wont see something unless all 150 people at Valve agree all with it. And thats alot of opinions.

Interesting links. Thanks, Quentin.

I think most of G4's casting suggestions are really good. Edward Norton would make a great Gordon Freeman, and Rosario Dawson as Alyx kinda makes me horny...

OK, I admit it, Rosario Dawson makes me horny, full stop.

Not so sure about casting Danny Glover and Sean Connery, though... their voices/accents are too unlike the HL characters.

I could easily see a good story line, graphics, animation, environment... etc but the 1 thing that'll put me off is hearing a word spoken by Gordon Freemon lips.

I have a good idea for a Half-life 2 movie, i could write it down but whats the point, i'm not some millionaire that can afford thousands of workers and am not even the age to be playing half-life 2 in the first place... actually i just am.. anyways.

In order for them to make the movie, they will have to finish the game to give the movie a full story... i could easily see 2 movies based on half-life seeing as the story of half-life is so huge that it may have to be split up into either 2 movies, for one three hour movie that has too much talking.

Who needs a movie, just play the games and Voila! instant interactive movie...

If they did make a movie, i agree it would spoil the aspect of half life, and everythng you've created in your imagination.

I liked quentin's links, it was humourous how close some celebs were to the in game characters.

Baha. That looks like Hugh Laurie's (from the tv show "House") head pasted onto a hazard suit.

If my new physics teacher lost just a little weight he'd be the spitting image of Gordon Freeman.

My strongest opinion on the matter: If any of the characters from HL1/2 are in a movie about Half Life it should be like a breencast on a tv in the background or Dr Kleiner giving an infomercial after the top of the citadel explodes.

IMO, the main problem there is that even if they get the actors to look like the in-game models, it still wouldn't be quite right because the voices would be wrong. For example, the casting suggestion above looks enough like Eli to do the job, but what are the odds he can replicate Eli's dry rasp?

They'd have to dub the entire movie like an anime.

Because it IS Hugh Laurie. Note the description under the image:
"Dr Freehouse."
