can anyone suggest a good place to learn skills used in hammer? maybe a video on youtube or a series, all i can do in hammer is make lights, spawn points, boxes, hollow boxes, and ramps, just enough to make a functionable map for cs. i know nothing about non portable walls, spawning boxes, portal bumpers. i am only 13 but I am also proficient in using computers, putting in graphics cards and such. so simply put, somewhere to start learning about map making, and where to go to learn other necessary skills.

Try these:

http://www.interlopers.net/
http://www.halfwit-2.com/

And if you're looking for something a little more "new media," hit http://www.3dbuzz.com/. I haven't really looked into it fully, but it seems that they have video tutorials and stuff like that, in addition to forums.

(We really need a sticky or a FAQ entry for this question.)

There are links to Interlopers and Halfwit-2 both in the Useful Mapping Links thread here, as well as all over the Wiki including the front page.

In addition, as I've said on a number of occasions, this site really is not the best place to start if you are brand new to Hammer. We're more geared towards Portal-specific information and mapping techniques, and while we will try to help you out, odds are we are just going to point you to Interlopers.

Sure, i dont see why not, besides, the VDC rocks! I spent quite alot of time making all those portal tuts, so we should link to them for that maybe.

It's an unnecessary emotion that is really over size and is only used by people that can't be bothered typing.

Arguing about a Pear saying the word "lol wut" is insanely dumb, so lets just stop here before we derail this thread.
