Hell yeah!!!
GDC - March 5-9

On a side note. Remember the iterative upgrades they make to the Source engine. They are gonna do that to the console(if they are making it) so they don't have to bother about understanding a completely new console every 5-10 years during the development process.

But all of us know about VALVE TIME........So?

That said, this has been rumored for a long time tbh.

And it seems highly unlikely to me that Valve would make a console, given how only recently they've integrated Steam with an already existing major one.

It would be interesting the see nonetheless. If such a thing was true I would definitely get it. My PC is aging fast and I can trust Valve making a console over Microsoft (Dashboard has ads? No thanks) any day.

It would be sweet to have a baseline for developers to work with, although I'm not sure they'd ship it with an i7.

Valve has replied that they DO NOT intend to release this any time soon. These computers are designed as test-pc's for valve. Just like they tested back for Half-life 1. Nothing to see here, move along.

That's true.
But they did say they are working on biometrics and stuff like that.

I wonder if this has anything to do with it?

The rumor was based on a no. of factors, one being a patent filing. So i guess that would be it.
Valve has diplomatically denied the rumor saying that 'you will not see such a thing come out of Valve anytime soon'(not actual quote).
Well Valve has to do something new and cool with the next half-life. Bio-metrics and advanced peripherals?. Hmm... everything seems to connect somehow.

What do you want msleeper, you probably know that it is the job posting popup on valvesoftware.com
There are 2 hardware engineer positions

Too bad I'm not a hardware expert(for the likes of VALVe).

Allow me:
This source link contains all the applications, click on either Harware Engineer thingy.

And no, I wasn't trying to apply. Just figured I could trace this back to there.

EDIT: Damn, OP beat me to it...

Well, let's not be too hasty there, lp. I'm not so sure I can trust Valve anymore after certain nefarious acts which totally destroyed my antlion-killing buzz...

Though needless to say, this seems legit. Just hope they'll deliver in time for the rapture...

Interesting (but rather long) read. And yes this could be very well be possible.

Is no one else worried that if Valve put out a console their games will become primarily geared towards said console and the PC versions of their games will likely suffer?

Look at what's happened to the Call of Duty franchise since it became console oriented. It's dead...
