We made some tiny tweaks to twp!

Hey,

over the last days we made a couple small changes that should make this site a bit better:
* The youtube code has been improved. You still use it the same way but it now supports HTML5 as well. This is particularly useful for smartphones and tablets that don't support flash.
* The summary for maps has been increased from 50 to 150 characters so you will have a bit more information whilst browsing through the download database.
* We have increased the size a thumbnail can be from 178x134 to 200x150. It's a big bigger and easier to remember. If you spot any layout errors due to this change; please add a screenshot to this post.

If you have any other suggestions please post them!

Sweet, I was wondering why the thumbnails were that size. From a web designer's perspective it seemed odd. My suggestion is new explanations for uploading files. For example under File release it says

Quote:
The declaration about the download release.
This will be alltimes displayes beside the download.
You can not search for this.

Not sure about others but what this actually does was not obvious to me.

Sweet! I like the summary tweak. We should definitely encourage more explanations and backstory for levels, not just "idk deres cubes and buttons ah guess?"

I suggest fixing the rating system. I know msleeper said it's probably all going to get tossed out when Valve releases their mod store or whatever they're planning, but still, they're on valve time. It might be a long time before we see that, and we're stuck with the broken rating system for now...

Unless it's an enormous amount of work to fix, then it's probably not worth it...

@Kaleido: short answer:it's very complicated and fixing it will take a lot of time. So I'm afraid it won't be fixed anytime soon.

also as LP said the rating system is bassically impossible to change... also
in my opinion this site wont die.... here we help each other with hammer
also a lot of the maps released with the puzzle maker wont be super awesome... you can release hammer maps, however I think this site will stay just fine.
Also I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say about the puzzle maker and when it will be released, but you wont have to wait long.....seriously

Oh I know this site won't die.. I'm not one of those people that's worried about that. This community is badass. Everyone is so nice, and there's some serious talent...

If you signed any kind of NDA, don't say anything

As has been said before, major changes to the download system are not really possible. But new features (searching, sorting, voting, so on) will be added when we move the download system over to the new Workshop distribution system. But that is an indeterminite period of time in the future.

There seems to be a bug with the download system where the websites serves you an old file. I haven't deleted old versions of my map and if I upload a new version where the archive has the same name as an old version the website will serve the old version. I guess I should just delete the old versions to avoid this problem.

*Edit: Nevermind I just read it in one of the stickied posts!

Yes Motig; it's a known issue that's why you should always have something like v1/v2/v3 or something similar to your files

Is anyone else having trouble uploading atm.
I am trying to update one of my maps but it just hangs when I hit submit.

This is probably at my end but I am just checking

I've just uploaded (and already deleted) a test download; it was working fine for me.
Do you get any errors and/or red text after the upload fails?

I have just tried it again and still nothing. It just hangs when I hit the submit button (nothing happens). I don't get any errors or red text.
It must be something at my end if its working for you.

I am just trying to update a map, not upload a new one if that makes any difference

could you try to upload a file to the wip section called database test? Try to use the same files as you did with your original upload. I'll delete it later but then you'll know for sure if it's the update or something you did

Same thing happens it just does nothing.
I have done a few uploads to other sites for testing (tiny pic, fb and youtube) and it's no problems.
Very strange because my last upload was on the 18th and everything was fine

It won't let me upload the file to a pm either. I have tried a few different files but no luck

Could you reconsider allowing users to delete their own posts ? I believe phpbb gives the option to delete threads that were not yet replied to. This could potentially save moderators tons of work moving posts / threads that were in the wrong section.

No, if for no other reason than because there are plenty of people who go "thanks, delete this!" every time someone answers a question. That's stupid. Their question and answer could help someone in the future; it's why we tell people to search before asking.

Either way, nothing is ever deleted. We have a hidden board that acts as a trash can for anything that gets removed. Nothing is ever really deleted.
