Personally, I don't see the point of signatures. In the forum I'm writing, there are no signatures, but the user can add abstract fields to their profile for things like extra websites and such they would like to add.
It's a personalization thing, so that my posts and contributions to the forum stand apart from someone else's.

I thought avatars did that.
EDIT: That sounds... not right. Let me rephrase: I think avatars are better for that.
For example, my avatar is two drunken Combine Super Soldiers, which is hilarious. My signature has a randomized signature on the site that I made, and links to other sites I visit and/or run. It is a sort of "Like what I posted? Here's more" sort of thing, I guess.

Avatars are just a single image as a sort of "face", where signatures are more of a "this is who I am, this is what I like, etc."For example, my avatar is two drunken Combine Super Soldiers, which is hilarious. Yeah, that's what I would say the profile is for. I don't want the "this is who I am" or "here's more" mixed among the forum's content. That should be on the user's page. The avatar will still be there to make the post stand out.

But you just said that signatures should be for linking to more.
Me? lol no. The profile page should.

At least he asked kindly. I can still remember kinkycuff, who had to show his affection of men.
In other news, I ought to change my signature one of these days. It's been the same for ages.

All three of his posts say the same thing, and they all bumped ancient threads. What's his deal?

Sshh. We don't speak of Kinkycuff.
