Just a side note: I have the Source Filmmaker, is it possible to use that for recording normal gameplay?
Thanks,

EDIT: Oops, I accidently put this in Portal 2 discussion. I meant to put it in General Off Topic.

Open dev console -> type record (name you want the file to have) -> record -> open console a type stop when you're done. Then hunt down the file, its somewhere in either portal2 or portal 2. Then submit to yt or edit in windows movie maker

The only free screen recorder I've had any luck with is CamStudio, but even that's not so great. See if anyone else has any good suggestions, but you might just have to buy something like Fraps.
I've tried CamStudio before....

WeGame is the only semi--featured free recorder. Anything else you need to purchase.
Wouldn't let me download. Chrome claimed the site didn't exist.

I'm happy with MSI Afterburner. It's a free graphic cards monitor but comes with a feature to capture videos in whatever resolution or length you want.
That one looks good... But I can't seem to figure out how to actually start the recording.

This does seem to be the best option. Is there any way to have it not stop recording when you die? Because that's really annoying, having to make a new one each time.

No.

You just need to set a hotkey: http://www.ghacks.net/2011/07/25/captur ... terburner/

I did set a hotkey. It didn't work. In both Windows 7 64-bit and Windows 8 Release Preview 64-bit. Windows 8 is the one I normally use.

Well, it seems the concensus here is "get FRAPS", so I guess I'll just have to get FRAPS. After all, $37 dollars isn't really that much, right?
I don't think that you really have to purchase it though (but ofc I won't tell you how to get it for free in the site in order not to compromise msleeper or even me...
). Now that you're asking, USD37... hmmm... that doesn't deserve the cost IMO... purchase a game instead! ![]()

I've got it covered. I'm currently uploading some blind runs of a couple of maps to YT.
Here's the first one: http://youtu.be/ksRQHsydMM8

Fraps recently implemented some very nice anti-piracy measures that totally fucks up the executable if it's not valid.
That being said, Fraps is one of the oldest, most reliable, and best quality screen recorders on the market, and saying that it's not worth $37 is pretty shallow. It is a great program with an active support community that has been around for quite a while.

I wouldn't put faith in most of my peripheral drivers working in Windows 8 beta, let alone programs.

I have it installed in my computer for around 1 year... it's not the most recent version though, but still, it keeps running perfect. I never felt like updating it or something, so I don't think it'll end up fucked up. However, I didn't mean to make any piracy apology at all. I guess that each one will have his own priority when spending money is the thing about ![]()
Pay up or shut up.
Plus, it's pretty much the only Australian software I've ever used (and liked) so I felt extremely compelled to buy it.

I bought fraps several years ago. When you buy it you pay for all future versions, so I don't think it's that unreasonable.
Yeah, I bought mine last year and I love it.

So I'm guessing you use fraps to record parts of custom maps for the "Aperture Quality Control" series?
