Or just do what the other crappy hammer users on the workshop do and put a picture from Google images in your screenshot.

Or do what I did and pose Atlas in the SourceFilmmaker.

As of now, I'm now naming all my maps "LOLZ GIANT ROLLERCOASTER" or "LOLZ LOOK @ THE BOUNCING TURRET" so it will get on the first page

Guys, you know that most frustrating thing about all this, is that even if you spent tens of hours building a very nice puzzle, NO ONE WANTS TO PLAY IT, NO ONE APPRECIATES IT...

Make an awesome map and post it here. Just don't go posting "MY FURST MAP HURRDURR" or you'll get bad rep.

Also, found this in one of your maps:

Dude this map is so NOT poorly designed and actually testing your INTELLIGENCE.
it is called "challenging" for real, and to keep out brainless complainers like you

Why do I need a reason for putting a turret in the map? Do I need a detailed explaination or story written for that?
If you don't appreciate my effort on this map, GO AWAY.

If you take your playtester's criticisms like that, you'd have a difficult time making maps. Keep an open mind for comments on your map (but not so open that your brains fall out)*.

Kinda feel like you're doing it for the wrong reasons, then. If the entire point of puzzle creation is workshop ratings and internet fame for you, then please, by all means give up on making maps.

I'm pretty sure its just that no one wants to make something that no one will ever see.
Heck, I'd rather have 5k views and all of them being down-votes than no one seeing my map. Of course, I'd be sad forever, but I still want my work to be seen.

Who says you would be sad forever for a novice map you have made in the past? o.O

I think if your primary motivation for making and releasing maps is solely to get recognition (even bad recognition), you're in the game for the wrong reasons. Yes, nobody wants to make something that nobody else will ever play. But if that happens and it's the main reason you decide to stop mapping then I think you've failed long before you ever started.

I'd also argue that while making excellent content does tend to speak for itself, you can't just throw something up and expect a first place ribbon immediately pinned to your chest. Think about all of the games, large and small, that were born ugly but found a major fan base later in their life.

Make something because you have ideas. Not because you want to stand up on stage.

Don't get me wrong, I have ideas, I want to make maps for my friends, or other people who are interested, and etc...
however, getting some views is a kind of recognition that, someone like/interested in your work, and means that your work didn't just go into the bin

I've been mapping for over a year, and no-one has played my workshop maps, except for that sunset one, but that's only because of the outdoor screen shot
of course I wouldn't put my good stuff on the workshop, I'm saving that

To be on the front page of the workshop you shouldn't try to map well. Quality is not rewarded there. You should try making a map shaped like a toilet or a one voxel map with bouncy gel on all walls.

For the love of god, though, don't do that. Map well and map for yourself.

Think of it this way. You have Backstock in your pocket, you can expect a LOT of people to play that. And your PTI modification is appreciated, too. I like using the PTI for drafting ideas.

I hate how right you are about that.

:) thanks, the best part about the BEE will be making 1portal tests, everyone is hyped for crushers, but to be honest those are super lame, the only good things that will be in this are:
logic gates, triggers, HEPs (High Energy Pelets), Autoportals, and I suppose the PDVs(vents). I promise Back-stock will be good btw

I made one of those crappy turret destruction maps for a laugh, and it's had nearly 3,300 subscribers. I have made far better maps that receive far less attention, people just love pointless maps it would seem. The sheer amount of content being uploaded to the workshop makes it hard for your work to get noticed unless you're already a well known developer.

I think it's just that a silly/stupid map looks interesting. If it's a serious map, it's hard to tell if it's good or just another crap map.
I think you just gotta grab peoples attention if you want your map to be played.

For example I think more people would subscribe to a map named Turret Trampoline than one named The Run
(Hard to think of good examples for names ^^)

true story, map naming and the preview picture make a big difference, all you need to do is slap on some dumb picture of a companion cube in the preview and I guarantee as long as the puzzle isn't hard it will be on the front page (not an actual guarantee)

Like the "Turret Massecre"...something like that? Those were actually on the frontpage for quite sometime, geez meaningless, worthless and just a really pointless map

How true that we should always map for ourselves.
But; every artist wants audience.

I wish they would add a "most popular this month" option. That might filter out these short-lived retarded things a bit. (Wasn't that a choice at some point in time? Can't remember for sure.)

Anyway, I'm super tempted to put my lame-on-purpose rollercoaster map up and see what happens...
