I don't think before I post on here (or other forums, for that matter), irl I'm smart (smarter than average), and I'm still smart on here, I just don't think on the internet because it doesn't impact my real life at all (unless I break a law, though there is no law against horrible jokes), so I come across as dumb... That doesn't mean I'm incapable of giving advice, and it doesn't mean I should be "one step above banned" or banned. I try to help, I try to be nice, and I try to be funny. It's not like I post "lolzudumbass parent the trigger_kill to !Player and dat willz make teh coob drop"

Sorry if I'm coming across as dumb...

So, the internet gives you the right to behave like an idiot? Sure, it does, but then, don't complain about things like this.

I'm fully aware that weatherbug is spyware that has been around for over 10 years and that has infected 100s of thousands of people, yes.

I can see all these cars being crushed because the oil companies wouldn't get any profit off them. Perhaps these cars would break down in about a month of using it so then they would have to be constantly repaired.

The world is about consumerism and not being green.

And I can see oil companies being easily flammable. insert evil laugh
I like the fact that cars can run on sunlight. But whiners are going to whine unless you give them what they want or do something to shut them up.

Ah well, most of the (smaller) oil companies will not be profitable anymore anyway in about 20-30 years, with oil lasting 40. After that these 'green' cars and everything similar will be the only way to go, really. That and nuclear power, which is also a good power source. The only problem then is that companies are going to claim to 'own' solar power and shit in the form of taxes.

And these green technologies will turn profitable at some point, so no real need to worry to much about durability now.

I don't really agree. The Plutonium 239 used in nuclear power plants is incredibly toxic and has a half-value period of 24.000 years. I don't believe that we are able to "hide" dangerous nuclear waste over hundred thousands of years, considering ancient egypt was 4000 years, the last ice-age 8000 years ago. The costs for disposal of nuclear waste though are paid by the state (all people together) and not by those who actually buy the electricity. If external costs in the electricity branch were internalized, nuclear power would become significally more expensive.

It is so human to first create problems, afterwards delay them to the future or try to forget about them and then continue one's stupid behaviour only out of comfort.

That didn't make sense to me

I understand your concerns with nuclear waste, yet just like oil there's no gain in just not using these power sources, and while uranium and other fueling materials do collapse into nuclear waste it does harbor a lot of energy that we can either utilize or leave. Might as well try to preserve oil a little longer and use nuclear power. Only problem is that companies prefer cheap disposal of nuclear waste over good disposal, even though in the end it would still be more profitable than oil.

How 'bout nuclear fusion, then? First awareness for nuclear power needs to be raised so that more research can be done into that. After that it's a pretty reliable and sustainable power source. It's what the sun does.

PS: I realize I'm making the off-topic thread a lot less funny than it should be, so have at it whisecrackers.

I need to clarify some things here. First of all, I'm not a communist. I use that profile picture, because this rebellious turret will play an important rule in my upcoming mod, okay? I've always been a supporter of social market economy.

@jomonay: If you have 1kg Plutonium 239 and store it 8 x 24.000 years, ~ 3, 9 gram will be left, what is still by far enough to kill.

If you want an objective opinion about high-level waste management take a look at this wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-level_radioactive_waste_management

I spoke about delaying problems. Of course I myself am very familiar with delaying problems, I do it all the time. For example when I need to write a housework I usually wait to the last day. (this is not smart by me) The problem we are right now talking about though, is the problem that nobody knows how to get rid of this nuclear waste. That is of great importance and should not be delayed. What people do, is to say: "Someone will some when in the future solve this problem we created for him, probably using bigger amounts of energy and/or money than we got out of it, but right now, we are having profit."
This is by no means a smart behaviour.

Oh, and I agree with FourthReaper, that nuclear fusion is an interesting aproach.
