i dont get it, its a half-life 2 mod thats a remake of the first half-life?i really dont understand it when people make mods that are just remakes of old games.
is there something i'm missing? or is it just because i have never played half-life? this seems like its almost piracy to me, but i'm not an expert on copyright laws and such.
my apologies for the terrible sentence order, i'm tired and dont think i did that right...
(i might fix it tomorrow, when i'm awake more)
Well, yes it is a remake of the original Half-Life with HL2's Engine and models, but consider this:
The original had crappy graphics and minor glitches, but incredible game-play. Judging by some of the voice acting and animation, the characters in Black Mesa seem a bit more realistic compared to the original. Hopefully, the scientists will actually run away from Headcrab Zombies instead of getting slashed to death. Heck, I think I recall Dr. Kleiner and Eli Vance appearing in-game, so the mod will give some background to the characters that appeared in HL2. As for piracy comment, Valve has shown interest in this Mod for a few years. And if they had a problem about it, I doubt the mod would come this far.

It's not an exact remake. The beginning is slightly different, you can kill the headcrab-zombies using some conveniently placed gas leaks for example, and there are some of the small physics "puzzles" that HL2 has. So far, it's been good fun, definitely worth the download.

Is the entire mod finished? I thought I read that Xen was still under construction, but that may have been the unreleased version. I wonder how Nihilanth looks...
The game is done. upto Xen.
They have big plans with Xen and they decided that the part till Xen was big enough to be awesome enough to release, they didn't want to keep the project unreleased for even more time.
Xen will come at a later stage, but the first part is awesome too!!!

I don't remember the original HL being this awesome
You thought wrong! (It was awesome... devishly)
still mostly loving it though
The lighting is awesome, and the level design is very well done. I love the brushwork they did; it really makes every area feel different like in the original. My only real complaint is that some of the particle systems look like poop and are also unoptimized.
Another thing. What happened to all of the secret drug stashes scattered throughout the levels? I pried open crates the entire game... but my searches proved fruitless. Could it just be that Black Mesa Research Facility enjoys randomly stacking empty crates everywhere? It's hard to tell with them...
In short, it felt like Half Life, but maybe just a little more awesome. I'm excited for Xen, and I'm anticipating its release.
In the mean time, lets watch some Gorram Freshman while we wait:
