Small, contained laser puzzle that's a little more complex than it may first appear....

DIfficulty: Probably a little on the hard side.

I spent much of last year travelling, and so this is my first released map in a long while. As ever, it's a small, minimally-styled chamber made of Hammer flesh over a PTI skeleton, with a focus more on the puzzle than the aesthetic side of things. That said, I did go to the trouble of chucking in a small Easter Egg of sorts, as a reward for players who like to mess around a bit.

Puzzle-wise I'm really pleased with how it turned out, and it might just be my favourite out of my own stuff. I've playtested it quite a lot and think it's pretty airtight, but then I always do; I'm fully prepared for the TWP crowd to prove me wrong....

EDIT: Challenge version uploaded! Check it out:

Agreed

Impressive puzzle El, impressive I'm still pulling it off, only played around 1 hour or so but I'm still figuring out how to have one portal in second room (lined up with the laser catcher in room 1 that opens the exit), another up near the exit door and then enter from room 2 through the portal to get to the exit part with the cube and shoot this portal from up there to the wall in below room (number 1) where the laser beam ends...

Cheers Jose! There are actually two solutions that I know of - my original intended solution has a bit more flair to it, but both require a bit of thinking so I've let the other one stand. You sound like you're on the right track...

Ohhh, now THAT was a puzzle. Quite a bit of thinking was needed to solve this one. Well done! And the Easter Egg was a nice surprise.

EDIT: Now that I've seen your solution, josepezdj, I wonder which one of us found the solution with "more flair", because mine was very much different from yours (and slightly less complicated).

Roger, thanks for playing! I can safely say that Jose's solution was not the one I originally had in mind, and it's the solution I'd expect most people to find. As such, I've made a challenge version which (I think) forces the player to go with my original idea:
http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=120857219

If your solution is different to both, though, I'd love to hear it; it could be something I've overlooked.

EDIT: Nah, that's almost exactly what I had in mind! Nice work! The only thing you'd have to change to do the challenge version would be a couple of minor moves at the start.

Damn, need to make harder puzzles.

Well, I think for most people, it would be hard enough -- it took me a couple of hours of trying different things and several more of just thinking about it. Yeah, I see now what you had in mind after I completed the challenge version -- just one additional step near the beginning. And I like your revised Easter egg in the challenge version, too.

Great map El Farmerino! I had to really think for an hour or so there. I ended up with a solution very similar to josepezdj. I'll try the challenge version now...
I hope you continue mapping!

El Farmerino, just so you know josepezdj's and my solution is still available in the challenge version using this setup:

EDIT: or more simply like this:

@grayarea,

Thanks for the feedback. I've updated the map with a little fix that also adds a bit to the map's atmosphere...

Hey El, just so you know, that grate, due to the fact that it is too close to the white wall tile, is buggy for cubes when you open a portal behind it. You should at least leave 128 units between the grate and the wall: much often the cube slips through the grate and through the portal but when you want to take it back it's impossible cause suddenly the grate stops it from the other side... and then you have to restart the puzzle back again

Ah, I'd forgotten about the grate bugs. I've moved it back 32 units, which at least stops the cube going through unless it's travelling at quite a high speed; that's all I really need for this map. Thanks for the heads up!

Spectacular puzzle! Though I have to say, my method was pretty much identical to josepezdj. Maybe I'll try the advanced version soon.

And it wasn't easy for my puny brain at all! I had to try it a few times, but I was compelled to do that, so that's good. I don't think puzzles have to be hard, as long as they're not a series of trivial, immediately obvious actions. Was the easter egg the PTI stick figure from the observation window waving at you when you look at it? Anyway, nice to see a map from you again.

Not exactly, though it is related to that little guy... Thanks for playing and leaving a comment!

Hmmmm, about that, was all the easter egg about burning Bendy with the laser beam or should I be able to enter and grab the WCC? because I spent quite some time trying to get the WCC to no avail

It took me about an hour and a half - that was really great the way it all worked out.

This morning I started on the challenge version and it is so much more difficult. That grate screws it all up !! I am sure the angled surfaces in room 1 must have something to do with it - but what? why ? how ??????????

The thousands of maps in the Steam Community are mostly a waste of time although there are a few gems in there as well - but you can really waste a lot of time trying to find them. Oh well, luckily there are still a few master puzzle makers doing these brain-twisters. And luckily they get posted to TWP. Thanks a lot for these two gems.

Jose, sorry - it's just the burning. Sorry for not making that clear...

For people looking for the Easter Egg: if you hear Cave Johnson, that's basically it; please don't expect too much!

PCdoc: just so you know, the angled surfaces are actually there to prevent an unintended solution that grayarea found...

Here's my challenge mode solution.
Doubt it's legit, but I did the waterbottle rescue side quest, so I'm a hero either way.

Haha, sicklebrick, those moves truly were heroic, and you certainly did emancipate the water bottle. Bravo!
