I really don't understand why people get so annoyed from misaligned tiles.

Because it's a sign of lazy mapping and not paying attention to details.

- IRL, Apart from people who use Hammer, most people don't notice or don't care. The world doesn't usually work in powers of two.

- In Hammer, like LP said, it's incredibly lazy and it looks like you don't care about what you're doing.

Amazing difference, isn't it?

Also, in real life nobody thinks to func_detail or nodraw brush faces that will never be seen. It's ridiculous!

Such careless disregard!

For some reason, maps have to be perfect so it looks good. RL doesn't.

Well, considering it takes around an hour to build a detailed house in Hammer, and several months (at least) to do it in real life, that makes sense.

Hammer pretty much has unlimited resources, and efficiency that is impossible in real life. Seems like a waste to not use it to it's full potential, doesn't it?

Pretty much. If you look at a bathroom floor and see that the very edge row of tile is cut off, you're fine with it, because you know someone had to lay every tile, grout them all, etc. To align them would mean taking them all up and choosing new tiles, then relaying them.

To align tile textures in hammer takes a few contractions and extensions of finger muscles in the space of about twenty seconds.

Also, the look of portal 2 itself is "perfect", once it has been all fixed, all the things seem to be perfectly placed, and so it makes sense for everything to be perfectly aligned.

Actually, that's why this issue is being dealt with on a Portal map website. I wouldn't expect to find it being so critical anywhere else.

This more from the original Portal, but when I listen to the fridge making noises, it reminds me of the background music of the original Portal chamber 18, (same thing with private aeroplanes flying above the house except they remind me of a different background music in Portal 1). Also, our second freezer sounds like the Wheatley theme.

The other day I was at a big furniture store, and I paid a bit of attention to the squarebeams where there was supposed to be a ceiling.
