You DO know a damn lot about mapping! I think I watched ALL your video tutorials and read the written ones (apart from asking you several questions via your website and receiving a quick and satisfactory reply from you) Nice to have you back here!

OK, it's a bit late after 1282 posts here, but the truth is that I've been thinking to introduce myself in this thread many times and I never did I guess it's about time. My name is Jose Manuel (I don't really like it! It's everybody's name here in Spain ) and I was born and live in Spain. I'm 35 years old and I'll become 36 in April.

more about me
||I love Portal since I met it... and the funny thing is that I found it so late in 2010!!! I discovered it into the Orange Box for PS3 (that someone lent to me for that summer). I literally fell in love with the game, the atmosphere, the story, and ofc the puzzles... I'm a huge fan (LOL) of puzzles ever since I remember and have a lot of jigsaw puzzles collected and exposed in my home library (I might take some pictures and post them one of these days...).

Another interesting thing I could say is that I NEVER played any game with mouse and keyboard EVER before Portal... Yeah, this is true, guys! I only did because after finishing the game in PS3 I was like "NOOOO way, this cannot be... I need MOAR!" And I discovered custom maps and TWP and MAL that saved my life! (Sleeper you might have saved my life!). I surely played around 500-600 maps in just a few months... I felt the need of absorbing custom maps!! I like to say that from all those maps/era, the ones that really marked me were HMW's Manic Mechanic and Try Anything Twice.

Soon after purchasing the awesome Portal2 I started learning hammer because I had some puzzle and aesthetical ideas that I wanted to try. I don't stop learning something new each day and it makes me feel like no other thing in the world (fact that is causing me a lot of trouble with my wife...)... and the most of all I'm learning it's from TWP... I use to read almost all post in every thread, and I try to help as much as I can, as in a fashion of returning the favour... So THANK YOU Thinkingwithportals community for that! ||
HELLO EVERYONE!!

Hey, my inspiration to start mapping ^^ I found TopHATTwaffle's tutorial on how to make panels and remember it looked like the most complex thing I had ever seen, pretty much scared me off hammer , I kept waiting for the PETI editor to come out then eventually got bored and started with following step by step the INCREDIBLE difficulty of... MAKING TEH BRUSH THINGS (I herd a lot about them), I watched your first tutorial which was actually for Counterstrike, I built it in portal nonetheless and was so proud

Thus follows a picture of my first time ever using hammer (super embarrassment)

Hi! I'm ultiman9711. You may or may not have seen or played my maps on steam workshop. If you haven't, go and play them at:

http://steamcommunity.com/id/ultiman971 ... shopfiles/
All my maps except my earlier ones are 100% Hammer. No handholding. My later ones are the best; try Wheatley's Detour.

Now a little about myself: My name is Alexander; and I live in Canada. I have been mapping since February 2012, and have [as of today] 58 Steam followers and every hammer map but 1 is 5/5 stars. I enjoy classic rock and dubstep/dance music.

I don't like speedrunning, because my computer isn't suited for it. But challenge me to your hardest map and I'll see if I can beat it! If I can, I'll review!

Anyways, enough about me; I've been wanting to get on these forums for a long time and now I've finally posted!

I'm Yishai, I wanted to map for the original portal but I didn't have it. I've been looking a the website since 12 Angry Tests was the main community spotlight, but now I've got Portal 2 so I had a proper reason to join. I like making maps, and ideas pop up all the time. I am still quite new to mapping so I don't know as much as the more experienced. I am on the higher functioning end of the autistic spectrum, so it may be common that I might post something a little bit off topic.

Sorry if this is incorrect, but are you the same person as Alexander Bell and HalfPortalLife3 again?

If you aren't, ignore what I just said, and welcome to the forum!

You can't, it's only for PC. You're obviously new in the forum so you need to know that your post is inappropriate for this thread and you should look for one or open a new one in the "Portal single player" directory.

How to get the portal advanced map?
On portal for xbox 360 how do I get to access the portal advanced maps?
Any questions saying OMG U NOOB and stuff will be removed so don't bother

Hey reenadiex, welcome to these forums.

This thread is here to introduce yourself to this community, not to ask your questions, please make a separate thread for that in the future.

If you're talking about portal 1: I don't know, you will probably have to beat the game and then select the advanced chambers in the main menu. If you can't find it: try using google and/or search in the xbox marketplace. If you can't find it there; open a new thread on these forums, maybe someone else knows more about the xbox360 portal than I do and can help you.

If you're talking about portal 2: you only have the xbox360 levels. To the best of my knowledge that's the original portal 2 and the peer review coop DLC. (the one with the robots and glados talking about art). For any custom maps and/or other maps you really need to be on the pc. (And since there are so many awesome maps on the workshop it's totally worth spending another $20,- to buy the pc version!)

As for the part: "Any questions saying OMG U NOOB and stuff will be removed so don't bother" We, as moderators, decide what will be removed and what not. If you think something should be removed you can always sent us a private message, but ultimately we make that decision, not you.

So erm, yeah, welcome to the community
~Lp

Hey, this is Xindaris. If I'm being perfectly honest, I'm here because I've been making maps and putting them up on the Portal 2 workshop for a while not, and very few if any of them ever got enough people playing them to have ratings. I'm hoping to improve on that, and actually start getting feedback on my maps sometimes. I'd be happy to reciprocate, of course.

The main way to get ratings is to tell people about it! Put it on multiple sites, tell your friends. Spread the word!

I am Professor Whom. I have been mapping for a few years now, I first started mapping for Portal. Also, I am friends with a few of you guys here if you remember me. I also have been working on 3d modeling for a while, and I know some of the basics of Javascript, HTML, and some* lua. I am also Paradoxic R3mix, but I forgot the password, which is quite sad. Well that's it, I am glad to be coming back to this community after such a long time.

I still can't believe I forgot my account password, I also had it linked to an older email, which was hacked. I have since learned to be careful and remember all of my passwords, if anyone was worried.

EDIT: Of, not is.

Hello, welcome back! You should try Squirrel if you know JavaScript, the syntax is almost identical.

HI !

I've been quietly reading the forums for a few days now, and I came into a bit more spare time recently, so after weighing up a few different games to start on again, decided I'm gonna get back into Portal 2 (at least for a few weeks).

I have a couple of maps made already, but they're just my first few from last year, and obviously as such they are nothing short of gash. Maybe they probably would be pretty decent actually with some further amendment and concentrating on using space more efficiently (you might notice in my maps that I have a tendency towards small complex areas).

Currently working on one that has a few nice puzzles in it (more on a room by room basis this time rather than having just one complicated room, which is probably what most people prefer) and I've got an idea or two hidden away for future ones, so we'll see what happens with that - will link them or something to this forum soon for some well epic feedbax or whatever it is that the cool kids would call it.

Not using Hammer yet, still on the in-game editor, but might well start in Hammer if I decide that it's not overcomplicating matters... (I actually used to make Counterstrike maps in Hammer waaaaay back in the day so I have some experience with it already).

So yeah.
